Sounds like a cool idea. Check it out here:

This sounds like a bad idea.
So instead of giving the person a points card and letting them make their own choices you buy a game you think they'd like and send it? It's not even sending the game either it's just sending the credit of the game so you can download it.
It's not like all the same games aren't up for grabs for everyone. There's no advantage of this compared to the points card or just points themselves. This is actually a big disadvantage.
There is no point to this.

No need for you to use it so. I know what games my friends liked back in the day. I know my friends would be delighted if they found Super Mario Kart on their Wii for a birthday present.
Gotta say I really disagree with you Jason...This sounds like a bad idea.

First off it is never bad to have another feature, sure not everyone will use it but you now can do it either way (give the friend a points card or let them download a game). Just because you dont use it doesnt mean that it should be there, someone will be glad its there.
Second it is great if I want for my friends to be able to experience games I love but they may have never played like Toejam and Earl without having to give them $20 worth of points for it.
Third this works out well for two poor people who each want lets say an N64 game but dont want to spend $20 each. Now assuming you trust your friend, the two of you can go buy a points card have one guy download the game he wants and then send the credit over to you for the game you want. Sure this isnt something that you or I more than likely do with our friends but Im sure there are kids out there with very little money and just wish they could just pay for the game they want instead of buying a whole points card.

I agree. It's not a bad thing. It's a good thing. What is the harm in buying a VC game for a buddy. Pretty cool little feature in my opinion. Not like I'm going to be using this feature a lot but it's not a bad thing.
"There is no point to this". Correction, you see no point to this. :)
What? Jay desagreeing with an idea.... from Nintendo??!!:o:PThis sounds like a bad idea.

Personnally, I may use it 1 or 2 times but after that... not much.
I think it's an excellent idea. It's exactly the kind of thing I could have used during one of my friend's recent birthdays who shares the same kind of love for classic games as I do. Instead of sitting in the same room with him, entering in my debit card info in front of him and then downloading a game, I can just send it to him. Brilliant.
I know, I know, I could have just gotten him a points card, but what's the fun if I can't avoid paying tax. :)

Is a gift!! you can give whatever you want. Haven't your granma sent you a pair of socks or something else? I know which games I love and really would like to buy them as a gift for my friends or relatives. If they don't like it, who cares, they can just erase them from his/her system and go on with their lifes.

You sold me on the last point
While I don't think it's a great gift idea I do think that people short of money can now get titles they normally wouldn't be able to afford.
Why would anyone do this? If I wanted a Wii game, id buy it myself. Pointless, if you ask me.
CRAZYCAM_93
By that logic, people shouldn't buy other people presents because they could just buy it themselves.
1) I wonder if you can send a region-specific VC title to someone in another region. For example, if I had a friend in Japan, could he send me a Japan-only VC title like Cho-Aniki (not that I want that particular one)?
2) Now if only there were some VC titles of interest worth sending. I have a whopping total of 6 and every Monday I am further disappointed/unimpressed with the newest release.
But I do think it's a good idea in principle.
