When president of Square say a new Wii will be coming in 2011 does it mean like an updated Wii (DS Lite - DSI, PS3 - PS3 Slim) or like Wii 2?

Rumor has Wii HD has been shown to devs, some devs, i don't think Wada would say it without knowing something, and he is putting DQ10 on Wii.
Additionally, devs saw the Xbox 360 1 year and a half before it actually shipped to retailers (and we all know it shipped too early had it taken time it would've been almost 2 years since devs saw it, how else would have deadrising, condemned, etc been so good so quickly on 360? gears too)
Nintendo would be stupid to not being showing devs the hardware of their next console right now, whether it comes out 2010/2011/2012
you know what this means? Other M, Pikmin 3, Zelda Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, what the **** will they launch a Wii 2 in 2011 with?
Wii Fit 2? Wii Sports 3? Maybe a smaller IP like Star Fox?
i like the fact that wada says he thinks the new console will offer similar experiences to 360/PS3, lets hope at least nex gen nintendo is on par with 360 online, not even worse than PS2 online.
Seriously no FCs or just one per console tagged onto a user name and guess what, welcome to 1999
Well, since we got the newDSi, they keep making new games but still yet can be played on both old & new versions. Maybe it would be the same possibly, a newer bruced up Wii, but continue on with the current projects & have some view hidden ideas in the works. Also keep in mind, the new Zelda game has been tight lipped, so it's possible they're not saying alot on purpose, just a thought.
The big difference there is the game is exactly the same is both versons of the DS, with two Wii's and one being significantly more powerful than the other, it wouldn't be financially viable to co-develop games for both consoles. Thats one of the big reasons why many of the 3rd party offerings on the PS3 and 360 aren't brought to the Wii, because its tough to simply port them. My guess nothing of the sort will happen.Well, since we got the newDSi, they keep making new games but still yet can be played on both old & new versions. If there is a "Wii HD" type thing headed our way in 2011, does that mean all us Wii owners would have to buy a whole new system to play the newer games that come afterwards? Afterall, the games that support HD or whatever couldn't be able to play on our current Wii's.
If so, then that'd suck. I don't wanna fork out another $250+ just to update my console, I'd rather a completely next gen console at that price.

The Wii doesn't have high definition because Nintendo wanted to focus on different things besides powerful graphics. So far the idea has been successful.
Whenever they release the next console if they update to HD, they also have to increase the processing power "up to next gen". A Wii HD with the current Wii processing power would be a contradiction of the current policy.

We'll see, whenever Nintendo is ready to anounce the next step for the industry, we'll find out one wayor another. But bare this in mind, PS3 slim.
the new nintendo console deserves a better name then WII 2 , WII HD etc , somthing new and original , every nintendo console shoul have it's own name
the game cube could also be called nintendo128 , and n64 - ultra nintendo but that would kind suck imo

True, you might think Wii is going really well at the moment, but wait a while, PS3 slimmay be more popular in coming monthsbecauseit isa much more powerful hardware for only $100 AUD more.
well 2011 is 5 yrs from the launchdate nintendo didnt say their running 10 yrs with their 5th unit like sony and ms are their 3rd/2nd units
so it sounds reasonable, and yes it will be powerfulin fact there was an article stating the ps3 360 will be around 5 extra yrs and the next nintendo would be there in time lol
You have to understand that Square is a company that relies A LOT on technology. The core gameplay elements on most of their franchises remain the same, with slight changes here and there. Squeezing the crap out of hardware is the best way they can find to effectively differentiate a recent game of one of their franchises from previous installments. In the meantime, Japan, their homeland and main market, has been moving towards handheld devices and the Wii. It's not too hard to understand why they may feel kind of trapped. Dragon Quest 9 on the DS, for example, was the wisest move in terms of marketing but, since the DS is not the best platform if you want to go to throw a technology overhaul at the game, some people at Square are probably thinking "Phew! We got lucky!", even though the figures are gargantuan.
If Square weren't a Japanese company, if Japan wasn't their main market, and if they had the resources to get away with it, Square would be making games for the HD twins exclusively. In fact, if PC gaming wasn't abnormally tiny in Japan, they would even consider going with the PC exclusively. But, since that not the case, they are pretty much forced to make games for what they may consider "inferior platforms", like the DS, the PSP and the Wii. The PS2 provided a sweet spot that was right the middle. It was technologically inferior to the Gamecube and the Xbox, but not by much, and it was the predominant platform by a wide margin. Right now, Square are facing a completely different reality, and they still don't quite know what's the best to approach it. What does this have to do with Wada's statement? Simple: It's wishful thinking. Square want a new PS2, a platform that provides both a huge installed base and enough technological horsepower for them to keep throwing polygons at their main franchises, and Wada happens to believe that Nintendo is the one company that can do that for them. The problem is that he wants it NOW, and that's where he's wrong.

First thing, he did not say that it will happen, he has no say in what Nintendo does, he predicts that it will happen.
Second thing, I don't think it is true.
They should stick to the project name this time around. Hopefully it will be cooler than "Wii". Revolution would be a better choice.

No it wouldn't
It's been discussed at length how keeping the name "Revolution" would have helped the console fail

What about it, first off, it was one of the worst kept secrets ever in the game industry, but more importantly the PS3 slim is just a PS3 that looks different, you can announce it one day before it comes out and it wont matter, because its jist a PS3. Yeah people actually ran out and "upgraded" but its the exact same console. An HD Wii would not just be a restructured Wii, its an entirely different console.

I highly doubt many people ran out to "upgrade" their PS3's.. they went out and bought a PS3 because it was $100 cheaper lol
It would be a stupid move on Nintendo's part if they didn't keep the "Wii" brand. They should stick to the project name this time around. Hopefully it will be cooler than "Wii". Revolution would be a better choice.

lol did you visit the PS3 boards leading up to the release of the slim, dozens of people talking about upgrading thier PS3 and of course among the population of PS3 owners those weren't the only people who were going to do that.[QUOTE="randomwiiplayer"]It would be a stupid move on Nintendo's part if they didn't keep the "Wii" brand. They should stick to the project name this time around. As long as it has more good games than the Wii does, than I don't care anymore.
i wouldnt be happy if the wii 2 or wat ever it goin to be called is on par with the ps3 n 360 i think it needs to be stronger and better

The article implied an upgrade for the Wii. I don't really know what that means.. Does it mean an upgrade to the Wii, "Wii HD" or something like that, inwhich it support higher capabilities? or a whole new console that simply has higher capabilties? That was the question I was raising. And I was just saying that I wouldn't like to pay a lot of money just for a mere upgrade.
Also, I wouldn't really call it a "policy" for lowering the graphics capability of the Wii and implementing other ideas, I'd call that a maneuver. They did it to venture into the blue ocean, and it worked, they still can still upgrade graphics if they think it's the right thing to do at the time. It's not like Nintendo has a policy of "make sure the graphics are lower than the current standard", but rather, they deal with gameplay first, then graphics (note there, it's not graphics completely out of the equation, they still put some thought into it, e.g. Gamecube was quite powerful, so was the N64).

you just forgot this small detail: nintendo already announced that the wii will be on the market for more than the usual 5 years. after all, they still dont have a reason to make it. why giving a new console when the current one's already selling well? No, they said the generation is going to last longer. There's some console out these days that says it has a 10 year span, that doesn't mean a new console wont be out before the ten years are up.
Same as Nintendo, they feel they'll get more distance out of this generation but that doesn't mean we wont see the new generation before it ends.
Also when you read Nintendo's remarks on this gen they talk more about the software lasting then the hardware. With the Virtual Console they see that even very old games have legs and they're starting to see that they can sell titles from this generation much farther into next gen then they've ever done in the past.
We'll see a new generation of console soon mainly because the Wii is not powerful enough to last much longer.
We already see things like the Wiimote not working as Nintendo hoped at launch and having to be augmented with the MotionPlus
We see the Wii not having enough power for online multiplayer with games like New Mario Bros
With Nintendo wanting to apply the system where games play themselves to all titles the Wii just doesn't have enough horsepower for all the things they want to add to games. There was a point where all the moves the Wii made were forward and we've entered a stage where the Wii is no longer moving forward but instead it's only lateral. The new console will be out once the Wii moves from lateral to backward
I really hope so. i have been waiting for Nintendo to announce the next home system . I wouldn't mind it being called Wii hd. i would love to see the hd graphics that other consoles are offering. maybe a new controller with a few more buttons. improved online play with less connection problems ( Mario kart ). also it would be nice to play games like fifa in full hd . if this was to happen i would forget about other consoles all together and would promise to stay with Nintendo forever .
I OWE NINTENDO MY SOUL. THANKS TO THEM AND WII FIT I LOST 3 STONE 7 IBS AND I AM A NORMAL WEIGHT THANKS SO MUCH !!
i would only accept another next gen system from nintendo if the graphic were better not = to current gen systems.....i would still buy it but i wouldnt be that happy about itI really hope so. i have been waiting for Nintendo to announce the next home system . I hope the wii improves on graphics and thats all. and gets rid of friend codes, puts a chat system in the hardware, and....thats it. if we had that, we all know the wii would be the best out there right now. we KNOW. three simple steps to the top. all we want.
2006-2011 = 5 years. It's pratically the norm for Nintendo to bring a new console.

I think you'd be 'dead on' with yourcall if it weren't for one HUGE thing..............the economy
I'm guessing that the global economy's status may push the next console back a couple of years.
Other than that, you're exactly right IMO
yeah i doubt it nintendo has been living off its exlusives not its graphics for years now and besides they are making a killing with the casual gamers theres not much need to bring hd for them. I would be happy if they start dishing out kick butt games already we havent really gotten anything great in a while some sort of good stuff but nothing epic.
