I would love a new Mario game, but I still think Luigi needs another game.despa1r_fact0r
It WOULD be cool if Luigi got another game. But PLEASE, no vacuums this time. -_-

I think that the IR Pointer would work well with the Poltergeist 3000 (the vacuum).Sigh...I didn't want another Mario game--not this soon at least. I shouldn't be surprised, after all he is Nintendo's mascot and console seller. I guess, I won't be looking forward very much to Nintendo's press conference if that's supposed to be the megaton news.
In the paper, no mention of a platform was made, and I believe a New Super Mario Bros 2 to be much more likely.
Though I will hold out hopes for a Galaxy sequel :D

A galaxy sequel would be bad. I don't know why, but, Nintendo seemed to have been making these 3D Mario's one-per-console, now all these news about new Marios and Zeldas makes me feel like everything else has gone down the drain.
Metroid Prime 3 was released the same year as Mario Galaxy, why no news for that? Instead we get Play on Wii games, which, is fine, but, things like the tease at the bottom of the JP Metroid site made people think there was gonna be a new Metroid, but there wasn't :(
Star Fox has also vanished, the last we saw of Star Fox was only really on Star Fox Command, excluding Brawl.
F-Zero has also disappeared.
Donkey Kong is just dead, and I have a feeling Metroid/Star Fox/F-Zero or something else will end up like it.
I don't mind the new Marios and Zeldas that are coming, but, honestly. I can only hope when I'm watching E3 this year..
A game that pushes the Wii hardware sales in Japan?
Then it's definitely not a new platformer, also it would be too soon for it. It hasn't been too long since Mario Kart either. The sport games can hardly sell 1 - 2 Mio units worldwide. So, what's left is the possibility that it's just Mario & Sonic Winter Games reconfirmation, Mario Party 9, or the best but mot unlikely case - Paper Mario 3 ( Super Paper Mario 2 would be horrible though )

Agree, but it's nice to hear they're keeping Mario active, I just hope that (adult)Link doesn't get left out.

I wouldnt say a Galaxy sequel would be bad. The chances are that it would be very very good. But, yeah, I agree with your main point. I would much rather have a new Pikmin, Starfix, F-Zero or Donkey Kong main entry game than Galaxy 2 this soon. Plus older and new IPs, such as Sin and Punishment 2 and the other stuff Ninty showed off last year. Im still not gonna complain though :PIt took 10 years for us to get Mario Galaxy. The chances that its not a spin off are low. But hey, I kinda like the spin off games.
My guess. Mario Golf Wii Motion Plus. If I'm right, I will laugh for an hour, not because I'm dissapointed, but because this would be awesome! BUT it would also be highly unlikely to take the spotlight in pre E3 rumors!

What? If it took ten years why were there still games developing during there plans of making it?They Did not know they would make a Next Gen console like Wii, So how did it take them 10 years?
hmmmm I wont be surprise for a New 2-D platformer for Wii-warechansaetThat would be pretty much amazing. A New Super Mario Bro-esque game via Wii ware would be quite excellent indeed. Don't look for it to happen though, they can make more money off a retail release.

Yeah but they can make even more money by doing both, I wouldn't really bank on that happening, but releasing a 2D Mario to Wiiware would not only generate a ton of revenue it would satiate gamers for say another 12-18 months that could be used to produce a new retail Mario title. However I would expect a WM+ Mario Tennis.
It came 5 years after the last 3D Mario not 10. Although its still a long time. Also for the person who said it didn't say which platform, it does actually say the Wii because it's supposed to help with falling Wii sales in Japan. I kind of doubt a DS game would help Wii sales that much.It took 10 years for us to get Mario Galaxy. The chances that its not a spin off are low. But hey, I kinda like the spin off games.

I think its either Mario Galaxy 2 or Paper Mario 3.
Its very likely that they've been working on a new Paper Mario game for a while now, since the last one is five years old unless you count Super Paper Mario, which is over two years old anyway and a completely different genre of gameplay.
Or... it could be Galaxy 2. It was a big gap between Sunshine and Galaxy sure, but if they keep the Galaxy formula (travelling across different planets and such) and just change the kind of costumes Mario can use, the galaxies he explores, etc. it probably wouldn't take too long to produce a sequel. Probably about 2 years, so... this holiday season.
I don't think its a Party or Golf or Tennis title because Nintendo said they want to SELL more Wiis in Japan and I don't think any of those types of games would get the job done.
Of course, it could be Mario RPG 2, but I'm not holding my breath for that one.

Were they or were they not working on Super Mario 128 while working on sunshine? Super Mario 128 became galaxy which then became a wii game. Thats about 10 or so years. It was supposed to be the SM64 sequel. I still wish they made that game. It seemed like a good idea.

That would be awesome and day one buy for me.
As strange as this might sound, if Nintendo DOES have a new Mario game in store by the end of the year, something tells me it's perhaps something we haven't seen before. In other words, I think could be either Mario's entering a new genre, or maybe Mario's starting a new genre. *gasp* It's been a while since Mario has done this, and it remains the perfect franchise for Nintendo in terms of introducing a new concept or gameplay mechanic that might get ignored otherwise. I'm not saying that this is what is going to happen, but if Nintendo is using Mario as a way of selling systems and/or increasing software sales, I wouldn't doubt that an entirely new game is a possibility.
For the record, I'll be pleased with a new Mario game, regardless of what it is. :P

Mario first person shooter perhaps?
hmm, i guess i was the only one not blown away by galaxy. in fact, i may also be the only one who really enjoyed sunshine. haha whatever so long as nintendo doesnt focus on more crappy casual games, i dont care what it is so long as i can dust off my wii for the first time since brawlmattg90520
Actually, I hated Galaxy and loved Sunshine :P

Nah. First and foremost, that game probably wouldn't move that many Wii units, and I doubt it would set any software records. Plus, didn't the Zelda series already try that shooting spin-off this gen? :P Now that you bring it up, though, I'm having a difficult time coming up with a genre that Mario hasn't tapped into this point that could work. Oh well, I guess that's where a new genre could come into play. :P
