Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo's commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing

I wonder if devs knew about this for a while. Like EA devs on tiger Woods all play with their new "1:1 swing mechanic" and this thing offers "1:1 response in their game play."Or maybe its the other way around and EA already figured out the 1:1 with their own stuff, so why would we need this?

All that's left is to hear "Bundled with our new Zelda"

Nintendo, you will lose your fanbase with another bundle. People are realizing that you're in it to nickle and dime us. While we are all glad you stopped bundling the $10 game with the $40 bundle, I will never buy another $40 game with a $10 bundle.

LucasArts discovered 1:1 motion control within months of the Wii releasing. With software, not hardware.

Own up.

When did they do that?

They learned how just never made a game for it?

Im sure they will tell us tomorrow but if you look at the picture it seems like it has a little cover on the back that covers the slot where the nunchuck goes... so I would assume yes.

Well, this is something that actually UPGRADES the Wiimote instead of just adding more plastic to it. I'm intrigued and want to see what does it do exactly and what game(s) will showcase its functions.

I wonder if this explains the stock depletion of Mario Kart Wii. Maybe there's going to be some new huge Wii Wheel with room for this new attachment. :)

Sancroff

That's what I hope it will do, but I'll wait for the specs before drooling.

Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo, but they really need to learn this whole accessory thing is not good. I don't want to go out a pay an extra $20 to get something that should've been included in the first place or maybe not do anything at all. Now if they include it for free with all new Wiimotes and give free ones for people who already have Wiimotes, then I'll shut up and be happy.

Stop acting as if this accessory is just a piece of plastic. That's an actual improvement over the Wiimote capabilities, and if it wasn't included since the Wii release, it's because they couldn't do it.

A bit miffed it isn't already part of the core wiimote tech as standardising it is gonna be a pain now and it would've been so beneficial.

I won't begrudge having to get it if the games make good use of it and finally deliver on Nintendo's promise of revolutionary controls. I will however mourn the loss of the developmental support that could've been.

We don't know for sure that it will actually improve anything. Even if it does, that doesn't mean I should have to pay for something that should've been in the controller from the first place. Like I said, if Nintendo treats this in a way where people who have been supporting their system for a long time don't get screwed over, then I'll be happy.

After Livemotion proved severly beneficial to developers, Mercury Meltdown Revolution's designer stated that alpha/beta builds worked perfectly to a 90% ratio, but advised that developers not worry about specs and calculations. I can attest that the game does not have perfect 1:1 motion, but it is very concise.

The problem unfortunately does lie in the Wii remote. In order to do 1:1, you needed to record yourself in 1:1. Jonathan Smith of T.T games has this to say

"It's partly to do with the technical limitations of how the Wii actually works, but mostly to do with how difficult the task actually is, for both design and technical reasons... the way you have to tackle the animation for a character that can mimic your movements is quite intimidating."

So what is this add on? It's Nintendo making themselves doing what Lucasarts was too lazy to do. So instead of 90% 1:1 on software, we now get 100% 1:1 on every game Nintendo allows.

Or am I the only one sickened by knowing that a $20 dollar game has more effort put into it than a $50 game?

If it fulfills its purpose and improves the gaming experience then this little artifact is worth it. Just waiting a convenient and reasonable price and release date.

You're saying should have waited to release the Wii in 2008? Get real, Nintendo delivered the best they could back in 2006 for the price tag they aimed. And it's nice to see they are still improving it, instead of releasing another piece of plastic.

You don't need to keep it on 24/7. If you want to use the zapper, perfect shot, or wii wheel, you can just take it off. It's just like you need to disconnect your nunchuck to use those peripherals.(although I don't think you need to for the zapper)
