See it here

So yeah it's pretty much a gamecube controller that you plug the wiimote into. I wonder if they are planing anything other than easier backwards compatibility for it.

Its a gamecube shell. Neat. I guess.

I'd prefer they just start selling wavebirds again if I really wanted to buy controller.

That looks kind of cool actually. Maybe this controller add on would support games that would use a traditional feel but have motion control at the same time.

You relize that this doesnt actually mean anything Companies make patents all the time and then dont do anything with them and unless they make the stick big like a regular anolog stick the controler will have the same devistating flaw. and it should have added buttons like the 2 Z buttons on the classic controller.

its perfectly possible its just a space issue, because gamecube games are 1.35gb in space, but most games can be shrunk to a fraction of that, animal crossings is only about 25gm luigis mansion is about 300mb skies of arcadia is only aboy 1gb in size sonic adventure 2 battle someting under 700mb. it would be nice but i dont see it happening because many people still have there gamecube games not many people have there n64s or snes or nes ect.

A lot of companies put in patents for stuff that may never come out. But this one looks interesting. Would be cool if Nintendo released it (I cant find Wavebirds anywhere!)

It looks too dumb to be real. It's either A: Fake, or B: A controller that lets you play Gamecube games and VC games comfortably with the same controller.

Darcstudios

its perfectly possible its just a space issue.

No, it's perfectly IMpossible

The Wii isn't strong enough to run Gamecube games

Heck, it's almost not strong enough to run N64 games correctly.

No, you don't

You're not playing Gamcube games from data files, you're playing them from disk, astronomical difference.

Everything old gen on the Wii is emulated which means (as I said) that N64 games are the limit, anything else and the Wii is too weak.

Throw Gamecube games on the service and oops, no play Gamecube!

The Wii doesn't emulate GC games, it has the hardware inside. These games are not emulated because as Jaysonguy said, the Wii isn't powerful enough to emulate GC games. In fact it is not even close to being powerful enough to emulate GC games.

Huh, why would they need a GC shell for that? It could have been done from day one, since the Wii is compatible with GC controllers. But it's not gonna happen.

I don't like the idea of the Wiimote sticking out. It looks cheap and lame.

It's not gonna happen, neither is GC on VC, that's more likely to be next next-gen.

Ninty are too protective over their software so they wouldn't allow playing from external devices, internal only, sorry.

You should look for the DS patents. None of them look like the DS. A patent is supposed to represent the IDEA, not necessarily the product.

It's too flat. But it is patent after all and it won't be what the final product looks like, if it even gets released.

Indeed. Even the most powerful computers on the market have issues that make Gamecube emulation not even worth trying.

As you guys have said it is only a patent but it would still be useful as it improves over the classic controller in almost every way. It doesn't have any of it's flaws plus it would have both rumble and pointer capabilities with no wires. I could see myself playing brawl with it.

This "patent" is FAKE. It's someone's extremely lame idea of a joke. I've searched the uspto.gov site. There is no such patent. This is B.S.

I actually think this kinda might open up some new possibilities. They could have dual analog control with pointing and motion sensing, something the Wiimote can't do alone. Even with the Nunchuk it still only has single analog stick. This is an interesting (if kinda unoriginal) concept!

I hope its wirseless, uses the speaker, the rumble (compatible with all games, and works for everything such as VC, GC, and any Wii games that use it.

Please finally have a proper classic controller.

I thought it might be a new handheld system ala Gameboy GC or something.

Maybe they just didn't show the screen in the patent. Could also use touch screen...

I know that's pretty far fetched, but I would buy a a Handheld GC for 50$ haha

Heck, it's almost not strong enough to run N64 games correctly.

Actually downloading and playing Gamecube games as VC is perfectly possible. The console does not need to emulate anything it has the gamecube hardware already, all that needs to be done is for the console to act as if the file downloaded (the gamecube game)is a disc in the drive and play it using the hardware 'not' emulating it. And how do i know it is possible? because on the homebrew scene there is ALREADY a way to put gamecube games on the SD card 'as files' and play them as if they were virtual console games, perfectly fine. IF the wii had enough space to store them YOU COULD even make gamecube channels on the homebrew scene, just like virtual console. Unfortunatley you cannot play channels stored on sd card so untill they give us a hardrive only way is by launching off the SD.

It's not really new ... the patent submission was in 2005. Nothing more than the original idea for a CIassic Controller. That is all I got from this.

Not that I would usually want to back Jaysonguy ... but he is right. The Wii CANNOT Emulate GC games through the VC. With enough space, they might be able to do what the 360 does with XBox games, but that would require a remake of the game to run like a WiiWare game would (as in coded specifically for the Wii).

Well, with the "Classic Controller" they are giving us now, you are right. There should be a choice.
