Sorry if this has been discussed before. What do you think Nintendo's strategy will be with their next generation Wii and DS systems? Will they continue to sacrifice graphics to win the price war? Or, based on the success of the innovations - split/touch screen DS and motion-control Wii - do they take these innovations and add true next-gen graphics, but put themselves in the same price range as Microsoft and Sony?

It's easy to see how the Wii could be improved.

The DS though, I can't see being replaced for a long, long, long time. What more could they do with it?

Nintendo has always aimed for the lower pricepoint. I don't see this changing.

For a post-DS... I suppose they could up the maximum storage, though hopefully sticking with cards (optical drives just aren't ideal for portable devices). Obviously they'd bump up the screen resolution as well.

It will be interesting to see what Nintendo would do......I think it will be VERY interesting to see what Sony and MS will do for their next systems.I think that Nintendo might go a bit more heavier on graphics on their next Wii and DS

Well the next Wii won't be called the Wii 2, at least not in Japan. Because (according to Game Informer magazine) 2 in Japanese is Ni (pronounces nee) so it would be called the Wii Ni in Japan. Don't think that's going to happen.

With the DS, they've already acquired copyrights and what not for a touch screen that reacts to up to 10 touchs at any moment, they have made a processor as powerful as the GameCubes with the intention of putting it into a handheld gaming system, and have of course done the infamous cell fone motion sensing game boy stuff.

I'd think if MS is stupid and makes a handheld, you might see a new DS in 2010 at the earliest. But it'd be like the DS/GBA SP for the last couple of years.

Wii i think its clear that whatever takes the reins from the Wii will have motion sensing controllers, 360 quality if not PS3 quality HD graphics and hardware as well as at least a 10-20GB HDD.

By 2010 or 2011 it will cost alot less to make those products and I imagine Ninty will find a way to keep it aruond $300.

While I think MS and Sony will hit a wall. Really, I don't care if graphics or A.I. get better from here on out with those consoles. I think its good enough.

Since consoles usually only get more expensive I see the Wii 2 being $300 at the least and the next Xbox being around $500 and the PS4, if there is one, maybe around $500. I mean its not like they can get rid of the BR.

I'd like to see the DS have a classic game downloading service like the Wii for GB,GBC,GBA games by then, And maybe a HDD, like 1,2,4 GBs. And a web browser with a larger top screen that is touch sensitive and is LCD.

Yes and No. Wii Ni sucks as a name. However, at many times, Japanese use the pronounciation in English for the numbers. They use Playstation two not Playstation Ni.

Nintendo never uses a number for a new system anyway.

Yeah, but traditionally "Nintendo" has always been part of the name: Nintendo Entertainment System....SNES... Nintendo 64.... Nintendo Gamecube. That's not the case with the Wii. Officially, it's just "Wii". The mold has been broken, so who knows what naming scheme they'll use next gen.

It sounds so anti-nintendo to say Wii 2. It sounds like a half ass name someone though of in 2 seconds. They are smarter than that. Also what about the Virtual Boy? The mold was broken when they named that was it not?

Well, Nintendo considered the Virtual Boy a "portable console" (oi), and up until the DS, Nintendo handhelds usually weren't referred to with "Nintendo" in the name.

Anywho... I'm not saying they will call it "Wii 2", though at the same time I wouldn't rule it out entirely.
