I want to set up a poll for those who HAVE a Nintendo 3DS. Simply vote and tell us what you voted for in the comments below. So I can have more answers I will try to group company controllers togther, just specify below which specific controller it is in your comment, also tell us why it is your favorite. I didn't want to add the PSP or N64 because there is no way they could possibly be the best, but I put them in there anyway. ;)

My opinion: I believe the 3DS is the greatest analogue stick ever created. I've used controllers from every system and portable that has had an alagoue stick, and the 3DS is just perfect (low height, feels great on your thumb, great resistance, excellent percision, etc). I hope all future analogue sticks will follow this formula!

In my opinion the GC has the best and most durable one. My 3DS one is already feeling less stiff. And the PS ones while at the beginning are excellent, with some time they get so bad.

Oh and the Xbox ones are just too stiff in my opinion.

Oh and putting the GC/Wii analogues with the N64 one is not fair. Probably the worst ever (even though it is my favorite console ever)

The game cube, infact if you look at the game cube controller and then at the XBOX360 controller you will notice that it is basically the same remote except for a larger D-bad, Joy stick and other control stick can be pressed, and the one extra button above the L button. But away from comparisons, my first game cube remote took 10 years before it broke (well it's close to breaking).

actually, i half like it and half hate it. its very nice sometimes, but it also makes it a pain to use the control pad because of positioning.

I personally dont mind any of the analog sticks except the playstation one. i hate that one.

Anyhow, I don't think I've used a particularly bad analog stick. The Gamecube controller has gotten loose/unresponsive on me but it's partially my fault so I can't really complain. The Xbox controller (post fat version) has probably one of the nicest analogues + layouts I've felt.

That is a good point, perhaps they could add tiny little bumps on it to improve grip. Would you say you have large, small, or average sized thumbs? My thumb don't seem to slide off the stick, so I'd like to know who this is happening to.

That doesn't sound like a knock on the thumb stick. It's not the thumb stick's fault for being placed there! :P

This poll is solely about the feel and control of the analogue sticks you've used. Forget about every other aspect of the controllers or portable systems.

Gamecube.

Xbox was pretty good too, although I didn't play it much. The same cannot be said for the 360.

Yeah right. The Xbox controllers are the best out of them all. First off they have the best position. Thats why I chose it over PS controllers. D-Pads should be a second choice so why would Sony put the D-Pad in a more accessible place than the analog stick? Microsoft did perfect placement for both analog sticks. And Nintendo controllers have always had the octagon shape around the analog stick which just makes it feel bumpy when you're moving around, but the Xbox controllers have that circle around. Then for portables. The 3DS definitelly beats the PSP but the NGP has two analogs and they're actually sticks, not slidepads. NGP wins there. The whole analog stick/pad is why right now portables can't compete against consoles.

Thats dumb. So lets say you got a new car, but it had no doors and you had to get in by climbing through the trunk. Is that what you would call a good car? When talking about analog sticks, position counts too.

Your example is not relevant. You see, the point of the poll is to grade the analogue stick by its look, feel, precision, etc. I agree position matters to this poll ONLY for the relevance to how the analogue feels with this position (is the analogue placed to far in or is it to close to the edge). If you take positioning into any other context (like in relation to other buttons) you are then not talking directly about the analogue stick anymore. You are now talking about a flaw in the controller or portable system. I better example than the one you gave about a car door would be this: Say we are talking about knives and I say to you "What is the sharpest knife you've ever used". Then you say "blah blah blah has the sharpest knife blade I've ever used... but I didn't like the weight of the knife". Your weight of the knife comment would not be relevant at all to the question first asked. It is a specific question solely on the sharpness of a blade. If weight has a factor in the sharpness of the blade, it still wouldn't matter, because it would still be the sharpest knife regardless. ;)

I like fooling around with people's brains with concepts like these. :D

Nothing beats a true analogue stick. 360 for that. As far as portable sticks go, the 3DS's sure is a lot better than the PSP's nub.

No, I wouldn't call that a good example. It has to relate to an out of place or mispositioned article like the mispositioning of the 3DS's analog slider, or the mispositioning of the cars door. You just said a lot of crap about knives that has no relevance, so that was just confusing, buti'm impressed. You really are good at fooling around with people's brains with concepts. Haha, i'm just screwing with you. Not tryina be rude or anything.

P.S. I probably could have made a better metaphor. If I said the cars doors were located on the hood of the car or something. But either way, I don't agree with the mispacement agruement of the 3DSs slidepad. It's in the perfect place for me.

I can't stand the Classic controller's analogue sticks, I would even say I hate them with a passion. They feel like they are analogue sticks on stilts (they are way to high in the air IMO), thus it is very hard to put low pressure on it for accuracy. They would be perfect for a game like Mario 64 but for something with precision like say Black Ops, I constantly wish for Gamecube controller support... I wish someone would homebrew GC controller support for Blacks Ops. There I said it. :D

If this was just between the PSP and the 3DS I would say 3DS all the way. But playing a lot of Street Fighter I have noticed my fingers sometimes slip off. But it is still fantastic without a doubt.

PS3, smoothest analog stick ever, not a single problem with it.. the 3DS circle pad is good but like a few others have said its already feeling a little loose. the G-Cube stick was alright but the stupid 8-way run cutouts pretty much ruined it.. 360 sticks don't move far enough, they hit the ridge at what feels like an unnatural point..

The original Xbox controller(the revised smaller s one, not the super fat one) is by far the best controller and had the best analog sticks and layout. Sorry but they wont make a controller and analog sticks that good every again. :D

n64 is the ultimate analog stick.

KBFloYd

It was, when it first came out, because it was the first of its kind. But it has been done much more effectively since then over all of the consoles. The 3DS analog stick is the best portable stick I've ever used, but I'd have to say overall bests are Xbox 360, followed by Wii Classic Pro, and then PS3.

the 3DS doesn't have a analog stick and it'll never replace one. Yeah it's nice to use, but I prefer actual sticks more, especially the one on the Dual Shocks

I'm giving the Wii and cube's analog the edge over the 3DS' because they're so much bigger. The 3DS analog is great so far though, bout time Nintendo has analogs on their handhelds.

I had to say 360: I still prefer a tilt stick to a slide pad, so that X-es out psp/3ds. I prefer a concave head to a convex head on my sticks, so that X-es out the Dual Shocks and the DC controller. I prefer a round base to a shaped base, so that ousts N64, GC and Wii. The only thing I think the 360 controller needs to figure out is the placement of the left stick and how to make a decent D-pad.

I pick the dualshock 2, the soft part for the dualshock 3 analogue fell off somehow leaving the hard part and it still works.

That controller is pretty good too, but it would've been 10x better if they put the analogue stick where the d-pad is, and vice versa. Why have the analogue stickon that awkward position when it's the thing you use the most? The only thing I've used the d-pad for is a few fighting games. It was ok with the classic controller, since that controller is used mostly for old games where the d-pad feels better, but dual shock seriously need a redesign.

I prefer the PS3s mainly becase the 3DS seems to slip on my thumbs... I think its because its a smooth design and when your fingers get sweaty it slides all over, the indented design is great tho just a pity about the material used... I have indented and spiky mods on my PS3 remotes and they also help BUCKET loads, but even the default PS3 I think is SLIGHTLY better than the 3DS
