In the conduit, in collab with HVS. Will it work?http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=93633#comment-section

I will see how the next weeks go. Hackers have become somewhat of an annoyance in all my wii online games, particularly shooters(COD is getting really infested with the flying invicibility hack), so i will blog about the results of this banning round in some weeks.

Would an IP ban work?

Possibly, but that user might change the IP address

I have never, that I know of, had a run in with hackers. I have not played on line for a long while and if it has become as rampant as it sounds on most of the wii's good online games like World ar War and Mario Cart it just strenghthens my stance on 4 palyers in same room on split screen is the way to go. Its too bad online only multiplayer seems to be the way of the future. Anyway if nintendo can figure out a way to stop it without negatively effecting everyone else I say go for it.

Yeah- I ran into him too a few days ago...

It's nice that HVS and Nintendo are putting some effort in towards banning the hackers... The sad thing however- is that it probably won't make any difference. The hackers will just find a way to circumvent the ban- it always happens.

The Conduit is a hackereutopiaand is unenjoyable to play. Almost every room has at least two with infinate lives, ammo, or more.

COD: WAW has had the top 30 spots of the leaderboard hacked but it is not rampad in the game. It is still playable and fun. Very few hackers are in the game.

Calling these people hackers is akin to saying I am a doctor since I placed a band-Aid on a cut the other day, or better yet a surgeon since with the use of a single needle I removed a splinter from my lady's finger. Just like on the internet, those people that brag about what web sites they attacked and such, most of them are nothing but script kiddies The same applies here, just some bored kids that read how to patch up a game, and that is all there is to it. I do hope Nintendo doesn't start banning by IP, it's not a great idea.

right. cd key was the wrong term i should have said serial number. every wii / cd has its own number so people can add you as a friend on the games, just ban that from online play.

uuuh... that would be quite dumb. you cant give hacking tips (like "how to hack *insert game*"). talking about efforts to stop hacking is completely legal, as it is to say "emulator" and discuss about how emulators are legal as long as you keep the game on your HD for 24hrs at max or own the original cartridge.

because it had no news, just a random sentence. Is a different reason. This is news about Nintendo efforts, like the fact that a bootlegger went to jail in Japan recently.Very different.

well, that's because it was a random and pointless thread. posting something like "i love pancakes" will also get you modded.

discussing the legality of emulators? you should go to the ask the mods and ask them to remove the moderation. because i'm (or, in your case, you) not giving any ROMs or places to get emulators, i'm just saying what is legally accepted by everyone, including the first parties. emulators are as legal as creating a safety copy of your disc in case the original is damaged. but that's going off topic, and i dont want to get modded for that >.>

According to the linke that the TC provided, the hackers there are speculating that Nintendo is now using the SSL certificate to identify subjects to ban. I do not know if that is the case, but it appears that several of the denizens of that site are worried about it because it won't be so easy to unban themselves now.

look, even if they manage a workaround, i dont care.At least for some time they will be pissed and onlineless.Well freakin deserved. "Bohoo i cant connect" ..Stupid kids. And then, if theres a workaround, they will have to go through a whole new effort. That might be too much work for some of the lazy bums.

I read somewhere that hackers can change their MAC addresses. If so, this isn't going to stop them for long. Worse, if they use a MAC address belonging to someone else's Wii, that address will eventually be banned too.

Sancroff
i dont think it has anything to do with a mac address...the wii has an internal code (used for anything to do with online). all ninty needs to do is ban the console with that code from online gaming. i dont know if hackers have managed to change the code in a wii yet..but even if they have..ninty could be keeping a registry of all wii codes. so even if the hackers change the code in their wii, its unlikely to match a valid code in nintys database. it could work something like that anyway. i welcome this news...let the cheaters squirm.

I would like to see that Nintendo bans hackers but I don't play online that much so I don't really need it.

You don't enter a CD key to play a Wii game...

Would an IP ban work?

an IP ban works directly to the IP address, even if you recycle your router or disconnect and reconnect, you get a new IP address, that doesn't work IIRC

Yup, that means the the next user, should he/she get that banned IP and wants to play a Wii game on-line will not be able to do so. Sooner or later there would be a great number of banned IP addresses for no real reason.
