NINTENDO DOWNLOAD: WIIWARE AND WARIOWARE JOIN FORCES FOR MAXIMUM DOWNLOADABLE EXCITEMENT

March 29, 2010

Wario™ may be known as a troublemaker, but this week he deserves a friendly high-five for helping to deliver a mother lode of downloadable fun for Wii™ owners. The new WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase game for the WiiWare™ service lets users with broadband Internet access download all kinds of outrageous content, from music and microgames to four-panel digital comics – some created by users themselves. Meanwhile, a cIassic RPG has arrived on the Virtual Console™ service, while Nintendo DSiWare™ users will find new ways to tune musical instruments, rescue turtles, launch their own fireworks display and more.

This week also marks the kickoff of Nintendo's WarioWare: D.I.Y. "Big Name Games" series. Several of the industry's most talented game designers are using WarioWare: D.I.Y. software for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems to create their own one-of-a-kind microgames. New microgames will be added every Monday through July 26, all available for download to anyone with broadband Internet access and a copy of either WarioWare: D.I.Y. for Nintendo DS or WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase software for the WiiWare service. The series gets underway with inventive new microgames from Super Smash Bros.™ creator Masahiro Sakurai and Metroid™ designer Yoshio Sakamoto. To learn more about the games and view an exclusive behind-the-scenes video featuring Masahiro Sakurai, visit http://www.wariowarediy.com.

And just for Club Nintendo™ members, we've got a little something extra to offer this week. Starting March 31, members can redeem 80 Coins to download Grill-Off with Ultra Hand!™, a wild game for the Wii console that challenges players to cook a variety of meats with an extendable arm. What better way to prepare for barbecue season than some fast-paced grilling drills on your Wii system? For a taste of the action, visit http://grilloff.nintendo.com.

Where do I begin when even words are failing me right now?!

This is the game I have been waiting for all the years and weeks I have been doing these Monday morning updates.

For me, this was the pinnacle of the N64 game library... Yes, even more so than Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and GoldenEye.

Painstakingly animated and drawn in watercolors. Brilliant Strategic Game Play. Branching, Good and Evil Storylines. Clever Character Classes and Combination Spells and Attacks. This game TRULY has it ALL.

Putting that all aside, This was a VERY limited production game in cartridge form and is totally the type of release The Virtual Console was MADE for.

Please. Anyone interested in JRPGs --OR-- SRPGs. Give it a download, Learn its intricacies and ENJOY! Games like this come along only once or twice a DECADE!

sell me on ogre battle 64

i like retro gaming, i love jrpgs (a genre i believe is on its last leg), i love deep story lines and robust battle systems.

would you recommend this title having never played it and know minimal info about it?

the only cons i can see is i've gotten burnt out on grid based strategy games in the past (FF tactics, advance wars, fire emblem)

also early 3d games rarely hold up, but it doesn't like it its 3d.

i've already seen some great posts, hit me up

Saradin's (Excellent) Ogre Battle FAQ

Remember the World Tendencies in Demon's Souls? Yeah. Ogre Battle 64 has a similar system to THAT going on in the background of the game! It's called the Chaos Frame! Read this FAQ and be de-mystified!

Finally! This is why I got the Wii for games like this and Paper Mario on the VC. Of course after the long, long wait for this, after they showed it as coming when the Wii first released, I have found two copies at a pawn shop for $15 and bought them. Still, I might buy it on the Wii too. One of my top three favorite games of all time.

The game has a great story with multiple endings, paths you can take, and characters you can recruit. For battles you create different units in your armies, decide on the classes of the characters in the unit, equipment, and formation. You have a lot of units soldiers, knights, archers, valkyries, different kinds of mages (warlock/siren/witch), samurai, ninja, dragons, beasts, monsters, golems, beast, golem, and dragon tamers, etc. You move your units all over a big map for each battle, capturing towns as you go.

When two enemy units run into each other it goes to the battle screens and they fight automatically (you can issure orders like attack weakest, strongest, leader, retreat) based on what items they have and what abilities they have depending on where they are in the formation. After everyone has done their 1-3 attacks and EXP is awarded, whatever unit lost the battle (if they are still alive) is knocked away from the winner letting the other unit gain ground while they heal, retreats from battle, change formations, or selects a new leader (if theirs was killed).

Awesome, I think I remember renting Ogre Battle 64 years ago when I was younger and I enjoyed it a lot. I'm definitly downloading it.

And Wario Ware D.I.Y Showcase is the exact same as the DS Cartridge, just costs less? I'll probly download that too.

I never had an N64 and one of the uses of the VC to me was so I could play the best the N64 had to offer. Looks like I have something to download. First time in quite a while.

You just play the minigames. You don't make them on the Wii. But you can upload the ones you made off the DS and play those on the Wii too.
