A couple of days I was brainstorming... Thinking about what is or what could happen to DS franchise in near future...

GBAlastedquiteawhileanditssalesarefinallydieing.LookingatGBA'squalitiesandDS'sgraphicsarealways quite a downer comparedtoother consoles(andiftalkinginPSP-handhelds).Somy question is how long the Nintendo will be able to keep the current audience in tact with its originality of game-play and popular titles of Nintendo like Zelda, Mario, Metroid and such. I am not against DS, in-fact I love it, I am just worried that in 2 years DS populiarity will start to drop down, whats your opinion in this, how long do you think DS will keep the same audience in shape it is now?

Regards to all Nintendo fans

A system wont sell 40+ million in two years and then fall off the face of the earth.

Does this answer your question? :P

Since it'll be 2 or three years before you even see an updated handheld at a trade show you have to think that the DS has a 4 year window where it'll be a mainstream platform. Added to that is just like the poster above me said, it's got over 40 million units out in the world which means developers know that if they make a game that grabs just 3% of that market they have a title that sells over a million copies.

I think its obvious from recent releases that Nintendo arent a fan of upgrading hardware so quickly. Im sure if they could have just kept releasing things on the Cube then they would have done. As it stands though, aside from extra features there is very little difference between the Wii and the Cube.

I think the same goes for the DS, any future handheld from the big N wouldnt be that much more powerful so why bother? They have a massive userbase and the DS is powerful enough to run the type of games its designed for. In this case I think Nintendo wont even think about anything further until sales start to decline.

I think considering how quick they went through the previous handheld releases its a wise move. The Gameboy lasted for years, then finally a Gameboy Color, followed by a Pocket, followed by an Advance, then Advance Sp, then Micro and a DS then a DS lite. I hope they dont get carried away anymore.

Wouldn't surprise me if it lasted into the next decade. At least until 2009 or 2010.

Not very long for me if they do not start pulling better titles out of their hats. I mean it is a great console but where are the killer games... look at E3 07.

Yes, I agree. The Gameboy lasted for decades, I'm not saying that the same thing will happen to the DS, but it's very much possible. The secret, is I think, in the innovation of the system.
