The ds lite is lighter, has brighter light settings, buttons are place in a better position, and the battery lasts longer, and maybe some other stuff. But the original ds has a better d pad, and the speakers seem to be better, from what little I've heard.
Like most said, the Lite is lighter and brighter. With prices so low nowadays, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't get a Lite, although I understand why people don't feel like upgrading from a regular DS.
The only things I don't like about the DS Lite is the button layout is smaller and too cramped for me and the Lite is made from a cheaper, weaker plastic. My friends Lite hinge broke and had to get a new one.
A DS lite is just all together better but i would wait until the DS lite compact comes out. go on www.youtube.com and search: DS lite compact Q3 09.its AwEsOmE!
Lite is smaller, the mic is on the hinge, the power button is a slider thingy, the battery life is better, and the screen is brighter. The DS Lite is the way to go.
The only real advantage I can see the DS having over the Lite is that it is cheaper and it is tougher. The old DS is built like a tank and can take one hell of a beating.
The ds lite is way better... the screen has multiple brightness settings and the darkest is brighter than a ds fat. also the ds fat screens look like they have gray smog floating on them another thing, the ds lite is much better for traveling cause of its size , and most accesories for ds now only fit on the ds lite :D
