To be honest, I would prefer if they didnt release so many models of any console or handheld.
when you see Nintendo coming out with "NDS, super duper edition" you feel that youve been cheated out of your money because you bought their item earlier.
I would feel alienated at any rate.
Thats true what you're saying though, never knew nintendo would go down the same path like what sony did with the PSP(Guess its about competition).i'm not worried about getting it though cuz i only got the Lite and to upgrade to even bigger screens would be a better gaming experience at least to me.To be honest, I would prefer if they didnt release so many models of any console or handheld.

fair enough, though I wonder what DSi owners have to say about this
I mean if you have an original DS, fair enough, there is plenty of incentive to upgrade, but if you just bought a DSi, chances are you feel you really should have been getting the DSi XL from the start
Well i heard that the DSi XL is targeted for the older audience who can't see well since the other screens from the previous models are too small(at least thats what i heard nintendo stated in an article). DSi owners however should have every reason to complain about this so i don't blame them since they announced this not too long ago. Some say that its ok cuz this model looks bulker so it won't affect them.fair enough, though I wonder what DSi owners have to say about this

This.
I heard about the DSI LL a couple of weeks before I bought my DSi...the reason why i passed off the DSi LL was because it is huge...and i prefer to keep my DSi as portable as possible.fair enough, though I wonder what DSi owners have to say about this

Not me, I have a DSi and am uninterested in this. Still for some other that may be the case.It all depends on what you want; yea it does suck for the guys who went out and bought the first ds when it came out, when if they waited a little bit they could have bought a Lite, or a DSi, which are much nicer systems(and there are better games out too). I still play the original DS, and I usually get urges to upgrade spay scraping what I can together, but why spend the money on something you already have? I could see the XL being good for people with bigger hands or poor eyesight, and people not buying it because they just bought a Lite, or a DSi, but if people weren't buying the new models Nintendo wouldn't be making them.
I can't say that I'm all that upset about the DSi XL (as a regular DSi owner), I'm just not getting one. Doesn't mean I'll miss out on anything other than bigger screens anyway.
actually i ordered my DSi AFTER this was announced. i upgraded my DS to a DSi to get something smaller, something i can carry around and something with multimedia functions. the DSi did all this. the DSi XL is way too big to carry around, making the upgrade pointless to me. it's an alternative to home playersfair enough, though I wonder what DSi owners have to say about this

I never got the DSi (only have a Lite), so I will probably get a DSi XL. I like the idea of having bigger screens.
If what I read about the DSi XL is true, it seems that the average person who bought it/used it is at least thirty years old, so the impression is that Nintendo is targeting older people with this model. I do not think that it is competing with the DSi, but may expand the number of users who do not like the smaller screens of the former (due to poor eyesight or personal preference). I might by right or wrong here.nintendo-wins
That seems pretty fair. It's not meant to replace the current DSi model, but sell alongside it. DSi owners now won't be getting anything but bigger screens and a lighter wallet. If you don't already have a DSi, the XL is a good option if you don't mind the extra...20$ or so.
I think the bigger screen are a fine addition overall. While current DSi owners probably shouldn't worry about upgrading, people who are in possession of one of the earlier models ought to give it some consideration. For me, I'm personally stoked!
Same here I'm not upset because DSi XL and DSi are the same they just one has a bigger screen which isn't that big of a problem since I can see my DSi screen perfectly.I can't say that I'm all that upset about the DSi XL (as a regular DSi owner), I'm just not getting one. Doesn't mean I'll miss out on anything other than bigger screens anyway.

Guess that we all got our opinionsI still think the DSi wasn't a necessary upgrade, so the DSi XL, definitely just Nintendo milking the DS cashcow

IGN:Nintendo DSi LL/XL Hands-on
Is it cocky for Nintendo, with the release of the DSi LL system, to completely stray from the usual handheld mantra: smaller is better?
That's exactly what the company has done with its latest DS model. The system is nothing more than the Nintendo DSi system's guts in a tremendously oversized chassis complete with screens to match, so to say this is Nintendo's next generation of handhelds is completely false and misrepresentative of the company's intentions.
The DSi LL is not a replacement for the current DSi system. It's meant to attract fans of the handheld system that don't really use it as a portable gaming device. My mother, who plays her DSi on a near daily basis, does so sitting in her chair in the living room – it never leaves the house. So the DSi LL benefits this type of gamer: those who play DS games comfortably. In the same location. Sort of like console gaming but without the hassle of plugging a system up to a television.
After an agonizingly long wait for my system to make its way across the pacific (it was released on November 20th, and it showed up in the office on December 2nd) I finally got my hands on the unit. Seeing and feeling is everything with the DSi LL (which will get a rename to DSi XL when it ships in the US next year). You can't get an idea of just how massive the system really is until someone puts it in your hands and opens the unit to show off the gargantuan screens.
The system comes bundled with one standard stylus already in the unit, as well as a thick stylus that's very much like an expensive ball-point pen. This stylus doesn't dock into the system – it's an extra – but after playing around with the giganto-handheld, using the giganto-stylus felt much more natural than using the standard stylus that comes with the smaller DSi units.
The screens are big and bright, and are at exactly the same resolution as the standard DS and DSi's pixel count so the picture looks natural. It's not stretched or upscaled because the resolution is identical. But the big screens definitely make the games "pop" as you play them – I'm really digging The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks on the new system.
Bigger also means heavier, and the DSi LL is significantly more "weighty" than a standard DSi system, almost exaggeratedly so, almost as if the unit has actual weights in it to make it feel beefier. Hopefully that added heaviness is due to a larger (and longer lasting) battery.
The rest of the DSi LL's guts are identical to the DSi's: SD card slot, 256 megs of rewriteable memory. And no GBA cart slot.
For size comparisons, one of the DSi LL's screens is larger than an iPhone's display. You can sit a PSP Go into an open DSi LL and almost have the thing swallow it whole.
The Japanese version comes at a premium: it's about 20 dollars more than the standard DSi system, but to off-set the cost the system comes pre-bundled with the oversized stylus as well as the two Brain Age DSiWare games.
Keep in mind that the DSi LL, like the DSi, is territory specific, so if you import one you'll be restricted to DSi-compatible games and DSiWare from Japan. Regular DS cartridges from any territory will still play, though.
We'll be getting the DSi LL system in the states next year -- though Nintendo of America hasn't gone on the record with a specific date, if the Japanese launch is anything to go by, expect it close to the year anniversary of the DSi system in April.

I may be wrong but this feels like the GBA Micro... one last revision before a new hardware hits. It will also much probably be pricier than the DSi. Apparently it doesn't fit in you pockets, so honestly.. bleeh... the only reason i'd like to have a DSi instead of my DS Lite is the DSi Ware. But my friend who has a DSi told me that most DSi ware games aren't very good. Plus there's this thing about system locking. Even in iTunes or on the PS3 you can re-download or make backups.
My friend had fun while he was on tour with the DSi camera' stuff, but he told me really you need to be pretty tired and in a funny mood to play with this for more than 5 minutes. And that the internet browser is suited for "mobile" versions of webpages, because there isn't enough cache in the system. So I guess i'll pass. I think i'll put my money towards a PSP-3000 rather.
I also hate it that the DS's only compatible Wifi password protection is WEP.. and WEP is old and standards varies from manufacturers to manufacturers (see my thread about Apple Airport). Its really annoying.
From 1UP(article)
On Monday, 1UP got a brand-new DSi XL (or rather, DSi LL, as it's imported from Japan) in the office, and after the shock wore off from the sheer size of it, we got to picture-taking. Here's a quick look at the XL (and its 4.2" screens) compared to some other popular electronics. (The photo above shows the American DSi box compared to the almost pizza box-sized package the DSi XL comes in.)
DSi XL versus the regular DSi and a PSP Go
DSi XL versus the iPhone
DSi XL versus a 10" netbook PC
DSi XL versus a Wii console
DSi XL versus a Sega 32X
Here's another look at the DSi XL in video form:

The thing about technology is that it's always changing. The second you walk out the store after buying something, its outdated. Personally I've put off buying a DSi this christmas because I'm waiting for the DSi XL. This is because I will not be taking it with me everywhere I go, and therefore the extra size/weight makes no difference to me. I think portability will probably be the biggest reason for people who will be buying it, as opposed to those who wont.
Even with this already being announces I am hoping that I receive a DSi for Xmas. I don't understand why people say that people who already have a Dsi should be pissed. The only major difference from what I have been reading is the screen size. The trade off for having the bigger screen is a bigger Dsi. The size of the DS Lite and Dsi has been one of the major selling points. If I wanted a bigger DS I would never have sold my DS Phat a few years ago. If they has release the XL and made major changes (like add in a gba slot or make some other major hardware change) then I coudl see how people might get pissed. If all they didi is make the screen bigger and maybe make the battery be able to get an extra hr of playtime then so what. I still don't think thoe are big enough to make choosing a regular Dsi or the XL a bad thing.
[QUOTE="TriniPlayer"]I heard that it would cost around $220 if it comes to the US?not sure though.Will47It's what I heard. That's more then the Wii though... they're almost the same size too... yes i'm pointing that out again. just the idea of a handheld as big as a home console is enough to make me repeat it over and over.

It's a pretty crazy thought. A handheld console more expensive than and almost as big as a home console? Only Nintendo would do that, I think.

well, microsoft can't because... well... *looks at original xbox* kinda hard to make something half that size and manage to call it "portable"[QUOTE="TriniPlayer"]Damn is the XL THAT bad?BrunoBRSi know the size's awful. Well i'm still getting it regardless only if its a reasonable price.

I don't know if your talking about Handhelds made by the same developer of the console it is bigger then, then yes. But Sony PSP Go is bigger then the Wii when it being played (Well it looks bigger) and it is more expensive as well. I'm not sure if that is allowed I'm not comparing them technically I'm just comparing their size and cost.[QUOTE="Luigi12901"]
