Ive been a console owner since i was 5.....nes, gameboy, n64, then xbox.

My parents would NEVER buy me games when i was a kid...i basically got one game a year at xmas, so i only ever got the AAA titles (I still only own about 3 xbox games.)

Now im 24, and have been buying my own games for hte last 5 years.....but i always just rented games. I would rent alllll the time...like 2 or 3 games a week, and beat them and return them......why buy when you can rent....id just buy the games with replayability.

Since Ive bought my DS, i cant stop buying games! Ive had it for a week, and got electroplankton and castlevania.....then i bought kirby....then i bought mario kart and metroid fusion,........now i want advanced wars and phoenix wright.

Im soooo broke, as a college student. I couldnt even afford to buy my DS to begin with...and now i just keep buying games.......even if i could rent them, i dont think i would.

Anyone else out there who has never been a game buyer, and is now binge buying games???

Yep, kind of the same problem here. I've had my DS for like 3-4 weeks and I got it with 3 games. Then, today I just bought Metroid Pinball, I was about to reserve Metroid Prime: Hunters, but I would have been left with too little money to keep my nickname as "moneyman" is school. There's still a lot of DS games that I have to have and I plan on getting.

I know what you mean... I'm probably suffering from one of the worst Nintendo DS addictions around... I'm up to 47 DS games and as long as they keep turning out decent games, I'll keep buying. Next on my list... Resident Evil DS, then True Swing Golf, Super Princess Peach, Metroid Prime Hinters, Age of Empires, Worms DS, Tetris DS, and maybe a few others.

I'm sorta the opposite. For years I have been a big gamer and had tons of games. But now with the expensive next gen systems and $60 games coming out I just can't afford it anymore

I'm with'ya bro. I'm 23 and the money situation is terrible when it comes to DS I acctually bought my games for the consoles, but only ones that I knew would be amazing. When I got the DS for Christmas I bought 3 games in 1 week (Mario Kart, Meteos, Advance Wars). I was obsessed with getting Animal Crossing when no stores had any, now that I have it, I just want to buy more games. I'm in my last semester so I'm taking a lot of a stupid courses just for the credit and those are my DS classes. Right now I'm playing Mario 64 DS and it's amazing. I also have been looking for Phoenix Wright but it's impossible without getting it on eBay or something. Anyway I digress, good luck with the DS funds! We both need it!

I wish I could go on a game buying binge, but with rent, my car payment, gas, bills and any unexpected expenses it's hard to do. These past 3 months, i've only purchased 2 games (Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center) and there are still many games I want to purchase. I need to find a higher paying job.

You may like collecting but seriously, don't buy bubble bobble. I rented it from my local uk game rental place and it blows. Shame really.

But seriously.. If I didnt have a PSP I could easily have bought soooooo many DS games :)

If it's any consolation... I am 32. I work for a game company. I own just about every console imaginable. Yet the DS is the only one that is consuming all my money and my gaming time since I got it last mid-November. In the last 2 1/2 months, I have bought 12 titles and there's no sign of slowing down. Heaven help me.

I am 20 years old and have a job as a network engineer. I cannot stop buying games for my DS either. So far I have got 17 games in total. I have bought a DS Lite for me, my sister and my nieces, and we share all the games between eachother. The DS is a great handheld! :D

i guess what it boils down to is self-control. obvisouly you're at that age where your parents aren't going to punish you for doing something bad, but you really need to get your priorities straight.

the thing is that for younger audiences it's really easy for just the parents to simply stop buying games for their children, but in this situation it's hard to say other than self-control. desparate times call for desparate measures and i'd consider selling back all your gaming-related items back to a game store or sell them to other students.

whether this is a joke thread or not, most likely someone somewhere is experiencing this i suppose.

i may have one other idea: let's say a game you want is finally released (e.g. psp version of riviera....haha i myself am looking forward to it).  instead of plainly going out to buy said game......give yourself a REASON to go buy the game.  for example, seeing how you're a college student just think to yourself that you'll buy the game ONLY if you accomplish a goal in one of your classes (midterm or something significant).  but then again, this, too, boils down to self-control.

yeah yeah it seems lame, but truthfully i've done that before and the feeling you get is much greater.

Your efforts to not spam a board are nice, and I personally applaud your ability to search the forums, but perhaps bumping a thread over a year old isn't such a good idea.

Blah..I hate when college students nag about how poor they are. I go to school full time and work full time. I got bills, car payments, and this expensive as hell gas to pay for too. Stop spending your money on booze and weed especially (I can't believe the amount of money people spend on this stuff, "It's not an addiction, I swear!!!) and you'll be able to afford a lot of other things.
