Nintendo have gotten a group of people into gaming that typically havn't gamed. Of course they are going to focus on keeping thier new fans happy, but at the same time I can see Nintendo pushing out games that Casuals can enjoy and Hardcores will as well and even bridge the gap and push casuals more towards the hardcore group.
I havn't given up on Nintendo. People complained about the Gamecube and it was my favorite system ever. I see the Wii being much much better.
wait a second, going casual?
Nintendo brought us the Famicom (family computer), they brought us the original dancemat, they brought us Pokemon, they've been gimmick crazy since their original conception and you think they're just starting to go casual? You have a lot to learn about Nintendo it seems.
nintendo or gameinformer admited itpolishkid99
i wouldn't like to bet how much the N64 and the Gamecube cost in terms of profit for the company because both were not very successful in comparison with the other consoles of the time, which is why they appear to be going more casual but in fact they're just going back to their roots
Nintendo gave up on the hardcore gamers because hardcore gamers gave up on them. No where is this more obvious than with the Gamecube sales figures. After seeing dismal Gamecube sales, Nintendo realized they were doomed to follow Sega's path, meaning either blow people away with a new console or give up and become a third party developer.
Nintendo said they could've gone the HD graphics, massive online network approach and it could've been a great machine but in the end, no third party would've supported it and it would've been the Dreamcast all over again meaning a great system but no one buying it.
Hardcore gamers are a small demographic obsessed with online gameplay and HD graphics and raw processing power, but that's mostly made up of males age 15-35 which the majority of Gamespot bloggers are. Am I right? (I'm a girl by the way.) Nintendo said, "screw those guys! Let's do our own thing. There's kids, grandmas and parents who are looking for fun games!" So as far as Nintendo's concerned you fan boys can enjoy your super powerful online HD boxes full of shooters, sports games and racing games. They're looking to get everyone else.
A friend of mine works at a game store and he told me the big Wii buyers he sees are people I call comeback gamers. These are folks who loved the NES or Atari. They loved fun, simple games that weren't about having 40 hours of gameplay, or interchangable weapons or free roaming environments. These are folks who like fun, simplistic games that they don't have to sink 40+ hours into. This is the crowd, the Wii is going for.
You can whine all you want about Nintendo, it hasn't slowed Wii sales. Nintendo gave up on trying to appeal to you hardcore gamers a long time ago. Get over it and go play Bioshock or something.

That was beautiful. I couldn't have said it any better myself.
Nintendo gone casual, I think Game Informer is as stupid as the people who buy into that. I think Twilight Princess, MP3, Galaxy, and Brawl all being released relatively within a year of each other says otherwise. Then Nintendo also has Disaster, and Project Hammer on the horizon as well. So they toss in something like Wii Fit, and keep it going with sucessful franchises like Brain Age, that means that they are totally devoted to casuals. Ok well Sony had that work out game on the PS2 using eyetoy, so I guess that they are casual as well. Also the hardcore game media, including game informer who have taken time to cover games like Wii Fit and such must also be casual. Using that type of flawed logic makes the gaming world seem like it has gone causal. Nintendo is doing the same old thing, they have just added more to thier plate. The day Nintendo says "No more Zelda, Metroid, Mario, or Smash Brothers, or new IPS" that is the day that I say Nintendo has gone causal.

Nintendo have the highest quality control i've seen in any gaming manufacturer, they never release a duff first or second party title, their products rarely breakdown and have to be recalled, their standards are high in comparison with competitors MS and Sony so much that game producers would not be allowed to create games for Nintendo without it being awarded a seal of approval, even 3rd party titles need to go through this although the credentials for them are not quite so strict (quite how Red Steel and CoD slipped under the radar i don't know but i'm sure it has a lot to do with the rush of the Wii launch and Ninty were just making up the numbers). So their standards cannot be questioned.
Also, Nintendo have innovated and progressed this industry more than any other company so i'd say they were/are very important to video games. That is their greatest victory, it is however their achilles heel because the world moved on and they got left behind. With the Wii and the DS they started clawing back at their lost profits and in terms of sale figures at the moment it ranks up there with the 360. Consideration can be taken in 2 ways, either in terms of money made or in terms of people (fans and gamers) satisfied, at the end of the day it is the consumer who makes the choice and the more money Nintendo make the more games they will produce.
