Although it shows no pictures etc, at least it's been confirmed for E3.

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's what I'm thinking right now.
Should have went to sleep though......
Was expecting the announcement today or tomorrow so nothing too shocking there, BUT playable and specs at E3?! Yes please! :D
I wish we can have a sticky on this subject as I expect this forum to be flooded with Wii-successor threads very soon. How many threads do we need?thom_maytees
Forum is pretty dead with so few releases trickling in, so don't think it hurts having some active thread posting :P just my 2 cents anyways lol
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I hope the 6 inch touch screen controller thing isn't true. helwa1988
So then holiday season confirmed? or are we going to see another 3DS launch where the console doesnt launch till next year?
I hope Skyward Sword is still released for Wii.
And now I'm wondering if the new console will just be a wii with all the things other consoles had and the wii didn't (HD, good online, HDD, etc) or of it's going to have something new.
im exited for this (owns all three major consoles) but isn't too soon? when ps4 and new xbox come out nintendo is gonna be like sega not a hater just saying bad idea for nintendo to release such new console so quick maybe it could have been the wii.....HD as long theres not another mario sports game im good other than that...guess i'll finish bioshock 2 on PS3...maybe new vegasRICHBOY551When is 6 years quickly? And this is not going to be like dreamcast. Sega failed with the saturn and used the dreamcast to try to get back on top. Nintendo is on top. They have a success handheld and console. This next system can only take them higher.
I guess this puts the nail in the coffin for Xenoblade and The Last Story. Nintendo is not going to announce release dates for those games now that a new console is coming. I suppose that the new Zelda will be on both systems like Twilight Princess was. Wow, the Wii will be the first system without its own Zelda game. Way to go Nintendo. Disappointing
Um...Zelda was just recently given a 2011 release date, therefore its going to be Wii exclusive. Just because TP made the jump doesnt mean every Zelda after will. Majoras Mask never did. Also, there is going to be a much bigger power gap between the Wii and its successor, which means SS would have to be completely redone for the new console. Nintendo also doesnt want the Wii to just die either, they need to support it until this new console releases or else their profits will plummet even further.I guess this puts the nail in the coffin for Xenoblade and The Last Story. Pretty annoying if you ask me. Had Nintendo actually released the Wii as a HD console, then this wouldn't even be a discussion right now. It was just a matter of time before it's technological limitations ended up catching up with them, especailly after Sony and Microsoft introduced motion sensored technology of their own. I'm also somewhat skeptical that this new console will be released a tad prematurely. I understand that both Sony and Microsoft have committed themselves to their respective consoles for at least 3 more years, but you'd have to think when they finally do introduce new consoles that they'll be considerably more advanced than the "Wii 2" will be at that time. In any case, we know that whatever Nintendo releases pretty much turns to gold either way (financially that is) so I'm sure the Wii 2 will be no different.
something new. Its nintendo, they are leaders not followers.I hope Skyward Sword is still released for Wii.

Zelda wouldn't have to be redone for the next system. Dreamcast had "last gen" games on it. Wasn't TP confirmed for 05 and then Nintendo changed it? Why did Nintendo come out with Pandora's Tomorrow on Wii if the company is releasing a new system? It is just kind of dumb. Who releases new IP's when the next system is on the horizon? Nintendo has games like Kirby, Pandora's Tomorrow, Xenoblade, Zelda, and The Last Story. I am assuming NA won't get the Last Story or Xenoblade. I guess that means that everyone outside of Japan won't be getting Pandora's tomorrow. All the focus on E3 will be on 3DS, and the next main system, and Zelda. Majora's Mask came out a year before the GC arrived. From what we have been hearing, it doesn't seem like Nintendo is going to wait until Fall of 2012 to release the new system. If Nintendo already has gameplay ready to be shown for the the system this year, so I assume the company isn't going to wait 16 months or more to release the system.

Unless your new system is coming out the day after you announce it, you have to release games for your current system, do you know what that would do to them if they just stopped releasing games for the Wii. The next system isn't for at least a year, probably wont be out until the Holiday season outside of Japan, you cant just coast for a year, that's what things like TLS and Zelda are for, its what Pokemon was for on the DS. Anyway, the existence of the console is no big deal, the real question is, how true any of what we have been hearing is.Zelda wouldn't have to be redone for the next system. All I am saying is that some of the games people thought might come to North America probably won't now that the new system is upon us. With Nintendo's e3 focusing on the new system, the 3DS, and Zelda, I don't see where the company would find time to announce that Xenoblade, Pandora's Tomorrow, and The Last Story are coming. Nintendo has the potential to have a great fall, and this new system will overshadow the fall lineup. People are going to start saving up for the new system. The games coming out in the fall won't sell as well as they could have. Look at what happened to Final Fantasy 9. It sold well, but the sales were nowhere near as much as FF7 or FF8. If the developers decide to continue with sequels of certain franchises that could come out this fall in North America, those sequels might be Japan only because of the lackluster sales of NA.
Found this on IGN boards http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_lobby/b8270/201896193/p1/?1 Sounds like bull**** but: More leaks about Project Cafe: - Nintendo are planning a full reveal of the console, controller and 1st/2nd party games at E3. - The console is confirmed to be backwards compatible with all Wii/Gamecube titles, and all your VC games will be transferred over once you link your credit card to the system. - Many 3rd party developers have development kits who are supposedly hard at work to have something to show (and play) at E3. - 3rd Parties were involved with the development of the console, with requests for what specifications they'd like to see. As of now (which could change) the system runs of a custom built IBM triple-core CPU and has 2gb RAM. The graphics chip is a custom built Radeon R700 chip. - There is an internal SSD. Size is unknown at this point. - It will run natively at 1080p. - The new controller slightly resembles a Gamecube controller with a large LCD screen in the middle of it. The controller is light for its size and looks like a tablet with Gamecube-like prongs to the side. It has dual analogue sticks, face buttons, d-pad and shoulder buttons. No triggers were on the device. - The screen on the controller is indeed a 6" LCD high resolution (reported 640 x 960 pixels) display. However, Nintendo said in order to keep battery life manageable, the controller doesn't have any hardware to produce graphics itself. The image is simply a video stream directly from the console. - The controller uses rechargeable lithium ion batteries. Size of the battery is unknown. - The Wiimote can be used and a new model of Wiimote will be released with the console. This new controller will have overhauled internals allowing for much more precise movement tracking than even the Wiimote Plus had. - The Project Cafe system development kit is not representative of the final console design. The console is smaller and resembles the Japanese/European SNES models. - Nintendo have told developers that their online system will be 'the best online experience' that's available on consoles. The whole idea of the machine is to be connected to the internet 24/7. It's being targeted as an online/social console. Friend codes are gone, but no word on whether the online service will be subscription based. - The Pokemon RPG is the title Nintendo will be showing off their online experience with. - As reported by other sources, Nintendo is targeting this console to the hardcore gamers once again. - Nintendo is planning on some sophisticated inter-game communication between the 3DS and the console. Nintendo didn't explain what they're planning on. To be shown at E3: Nintendo: - Pikmin 3 (playable, launch title) - Pokemon RPG (video, launch or near launch title) - Super Mario Bros title (playable) - Star Fox (playable) - Smash Bros 4 (playable) - Mario Kart (video) - Zelda (tech demo) - Metroid (tech demo) - New IP (video) Rockstar Games: - Red Dead Redemption 2 (video) - Grand Theft Auto "New Title" (video) Ubisoft: - Rayman Legends (playable) - Red Steel 3 (playable) - New IP (video) SquareEnix: - Final Fantasy XV Capcom: - Resident Evil (video) - Megaman (video) - Monster Hunter (video) EA: - NBA '13 (video) - NFL '13 (video) - NHL '13 (video) Activision: - Modern Warfare 3 (video) Konami: - Metal Gear title (video) - Winning Eleven (video) Namco: - Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (playable) - Soul Calibur 5 (video) - Pacman Rebirth (video)AddiFB
Even if you are correct about those games coming to the next system, a lot of those games are coming out on the other current generation systems. Tekken Tag 2, GTA 5, and Soul Calibur 5 will come out this generation. It has been 3 years since we saw the last installments to GTA and Soul Calibur. Why would I buy the new Nintendo for those games when I can play them on a system I already own? The only people who would buy the next Nintendo for most of those games are Wii only owners.
This is a summary of Nintendo's recent patent that may be connected to its next home console (excerpted from an entry from Nintendoeverything.com):
'Parent' device and 'Child' devices
- 'Child' device connects to 'Parent' devices to stream data/games
- 'Child' device can communicate with multiple 'Parent' devices, receive identification date
- A sort of "GBA+Gamecube" without the cords
- 'Child' device houses game cartridge, can be detached from 'Parent' device
- 'Child' device can send requests to 'Parent' devices for data transfers
- Multiple 'Child' devices meant to be used at the same time in constant communication
- Has a sort of 'Download Play' option
- Uses Bluetooth for communication
- Mario Kart and F-Zero are mentioned multiple times throughout the patent
- Uses very confusing language, such as 'thereby', 'wherein', etc (ie, 'patent speak' that makes it real hard to read)Nintendoeverything
People will have a year and a half to save up for a new system, business will not stop because a new console is over a year out. They need games to close out the Wii's lifespan, their not going to just shut down everything in anticipation for this new system. But of course, they will be moving major development away from the Wii, but that's where things like localizations come in. They don't have to be sales juggernauts as its more cost effective to do a simple translation and limited marketing than it is to do full development. They don't have the 3rd party to pick up the slack and Pet Horsz 9 isn't going to carry the torch to the new system.
edit: ^Well you could also guess that is in referene to 3DS connectivity for the new system

You are assuming that the console will launch in the fall. That has been the tradition, but if Nintendo already has gameplay ready to show off, the system might come out sooner. If Zelda is not pushed to the new console, then the new console could interfere with the sales of the game. For example, suppose Zelda comes out in November. If the new system comes out in March, that will definitely interfere with the legs Zelda might have. The same could happen with other games coming out this fall. If Nintendo does release the new system in spring, then the company screws itself.
[QUOTE="Sepewrath"]edit: ^Well you could also guess that is in referene to 3DS connectivity for the new systemBrunoBRSi'm going with that. but then WTF does that mean: " 'Child' device houses game cartridge, can be detached from 'Parent' device" I think parent = console, and child = controller. It is rumoured that you can download a game from the console to the controller and play the game like it was a handheld. I don't know if they could make the controller like a full fledged handheld device since my guess would be that it means that you could play the game away from the console but still in bluetooth range, which would be a different room of the same house or maybe in the backyard but not much more.
I am, because its an assumption that makes sense. First off its already been confirmed that the console wont come out before April of next year and what your overlooking is the 3DS. Miyamoto confirmed today that Star Fox and Mario Kart are due out before the end of the year, the latter likely will be the big holiday release. The 3DS will pick up a lot of steam at that point, releasing this new console would cut into the 3DS hardware and software sales, right as they are prime to catch wind in their sails. So they are likely to distance the release of this console as much as they can; particularly if this screen in the controller thing is true and it can stream games. While its not portable, little misinformation here and there can screw up the 3DS. I think Fall is the likely release and they need something to fill that time. [QUOTE="BrunoBRS"]i'm going with that. but then WTF does that mean: " 'Child' device houses game cartridge, can be detached from 'Parent' device" I would hazard to guess it makes reference to the wireless connectivity of the 3DS and the console. it wouldn't be a patent if it wasn't worded oddly. You are assuming that the console will launch in the fall. Idk, but since the Wii's successor has officially been announced now, shouldnt there be a sticky hype thread for it? or maybe sticky this thread and just update it as we learn more about it. As much as I love seeing this forum jumping back to life, Im willing to bet it will be annoying later on, such as sortly before and after E3, when everyone feels the need to start new topics on every single feature for the successor.

Where has Nintendo confirmed that the next console won't hit until after April next year? I am somewhat surprised that Mario Kart is coming out this early in the lifespan. Then again, mario kart 64 came out only 5 months after the N64 launch. Mario Kart super circut came out only months after GBA hit shelves. It is cool to see 3DS have some nice games early in the lifecycle, but this could have downside to it. If Nintendo wastes all the big games now, then what will the company have 3 to 4 years down the pike?
