with microsoft announcing the price cuts for the 360 and the core only costing $30 more than the wii should nintendo announce a price cut for the wii?

I think they should, even if it's only down to $200 or £150 in the uk they will still be making a profit and they are only going to sell more consoles.

360 core is in no way going to creep in on the Wiis sales. Who buys the Core anyway?

Exactly.

They stopped making it(the core package), now the "Premium" is the Baseline Unit, with the Elite on the top. Plus in Sept. they will have a Halo 3 Unit.

Same with sony, they stopped making the 20GB, dropped the price of the 60 GB, and now they have stopped making that and the only option will be this 80Gb deal that comes with motorstorm fro $599, what the 60 lauched at.(though you'll be able to buy the 60GB for months to come, you can even get a 20GB if ou look hard enough).

Yeah I bet Nintendo's really worried about a System that can't even save games being 30 dollars more than them. Core is uselles.

You know the Halo3 unit is the Premium.

The Core should be discontinued. I mean multiple SKUs is just lame. You need 1 console not 3.

They sell out at current pricing

This is a very bad idea, when you're sold out you don't lower price.

See when demand is high the prices are also high. When demand is low the price is also low.

What logic is there in dropping the price when it's still sold out worldwide for it's 9th straight month?

I believe people think that the core will take a big chunk of the Wiis sales forcing Nintendo to play their hand and lower the Wiis price but that won't happen because the core won't take any of the Wiis market.

True, all it is a Premium(Actually they dont call it that anymore, now its just the "Xbox 360"), but with Spartian Coloring and "Bronze" Detailing, so i count it as a separte SKU.

And the core was discontinued, so it will be gone off shelves soon, if it's not already.

it amazes me sometimes how stupid people are on this site. Really, do you see nintendo cutting the price on their system when they sell like hot cakes? please awnser. A why would the core being $30 more than a wii make a difference? C'mon man, think before you post stupid stuff like this.

Threads like this demonstrate how poorly economics is being taught in our public schools. Why should you lower the price of something that's sold out? If anything Nintendo should raise the price, but they must think that would generate too much ill-will.

One of the posts above mentioned that the cost to produce the Wii is rising. Do you have a reference because I'm skeptical of that.

I heard that only Best Buy is discontinuing it. I'm pretty sure other retailers will still have it.

Target is rumored to bediscontinuing the core. Most people haven't seen a core system in stores for months. In a number of regions a premium xbox 360 was only like 50 bucks higher then a wii and the wii was outselling the xbox 360. In Japan the PS3 is dirt cheap a 60 giger was only like 425 when it was 599 in other regions. My memory is hazy on that but Japan did have the lowest PS3 prices and the system sells like crap there.

when any other product sells out at its price they up the price to even the ratio of supply and demand. All in all if they have a million of something and two million people want it at its current price, they just up the price to where only one million people want it for that price.

The core system would still really be at least 60USD more than the Wii, since you have to factor in the price of a memory card.

They need to lower the games IMO. Wii games aren't really what you call "next gen"..

I guess the little symbol on the side that shows a Wii remote and Nunchuck on the box is just for decoration. :|

I'd rather see something else bundled in, like Wii Play/ with Wii Mote and a Nunchuk....or some kinda cheap to produce on-line game like geometry wars with the classic controller...

instead of a price cut...

on myspace

" what about the Wii this holiday season..."

The 360 wont cut into the Wii's market for two reasons: One a large portion of the Wii fanbase(non gamers)have no interest in the 360. For example my mother wants a Wii, but she surely wouldnt want a 360. Two real gamers know that the 360 core is nothing more than a paper weight, so they wouldnt waste money on it.
