Nintendo really ought to consider doing some completely 2D games

Not like New Super Mario Bros, sprites, no 3D whatsoever In-Game. Using this old-school formula, Nintendo would satisfy the many fans begging for a 2D metroid/mario/zelda/ect and be allowed much more space. If with 3D graphics they could make the wonder that is Galaxy, imagine what they could do with all of that extra space for a 2D game! The levels would be huge, the power-ups and enemies would be plentifully, more effert could be put into music, gameplay, and new innovative ideas without the hassle of making everything 3D, ect. Even if they did go New Super Mario Bros style and make it 3D in 2D, they would still save a lot of room. Agreed?

Gaming is most likely never going to completely go back to 2D format on a console. But I don't really see the need to make a 2D game on the Wii, especially if it's a popular franchise like Zelda or Mario.

Wiiware. I wouln't be willing to pay full price for a full 2d game that what Handhelds are for in my opinion. I mean sure they can be really fun but 40 dollars is probably all I would pay. Except viewtiful joe but even that is 3D. But wiiware is something that would be excellent for making sidescrollers. Or 2D games.

I think 2d is ready for a come back. Lets think about it. Castlevania just isn't any good 3d. A castlevania for the wii in 2d would be awsome. Doesn't have to be completely 2d. It culd have 3d background.

2D isn't dead on console yet, just look at Street Fighter 4 (hopefully the wii will get a version of it).

I like the idea of a retro lookin 2d game for the wii but completely new. I think it would have to be an original though, no mario, zelda, or metroid. The start of a new franchise with characters that can be in the next ssb.

I would love to see new 2D games from Mario, Metroid, Kirby, Donkey Kong and so on. For some reason, 2D games with cartoon style visuals look better on a large HDTV.

Ah, I would love to see some more great 2-D games from Nintendo. New Super Mario Bros. was pretty much brilliant, so if that's anything to go off of, Nintendo still has much talent in the art of 2-D sidescrollers. If something new for Wii comes up, count me in.

Wiiware is probably the best solution for that. I think we're going to see many platformers on Wiiware in 2D or in 2.5D like Eternity's Child.

Just a quick question to the TC. You said that

Hate to tell you this but when you say making the game 2D would save room for better gameplay. Gameplay quality doesnt really take up space. And when you say it would let developers have room for new innovation, they already did that with 2D games, they innovated to create 3D games. Sorry but I'm 99% sure there wont ever be another side scrolling mario, metroid, or zelda game on the Wii. I hope for more on the DS but not on the Wii.
