I was playing pilotwings 3D and it got me thinking. The planes have a first person mode, and I found the 3D much less harsh on the eyes when I was in that mode. Also, in OoT I found a similar situation where I just turn the 3D off but I found it much more acceptable in the first person parts where you are using the view button or shooting arrows or deku seeds. Those parts are too short to really tell, but I swear it makes a difference.
It is so obvious to me. Having your sprite on the screen in third person is like driving with a crack in your windshield blocking your view. The 3DS effect is hard on the eyes as it is, but nintendo should be looking into ways like this to limit that drawback. I wouldn't mind a 3DS Zelda game in a first person perspective. It worked in Metroid Prime
This all reminds me of the AVGN review of the Virtual Boy. He did a very fair review of it imo, and the best point was that a huge failing of the system was that the games were not in first person, aside from Teleroboxer which is a great game for the VB. To me it seems like nintendo is making the same mistake. Luckily it looks like the 3DS will be popular enough that 3rd parties will release first person titles eventually
Did anyone else notice this problem with the third person perspective?
