I was playing pilotwings 3D and it got me thinking. The planes have a first person mode, and I found the 3D much less harsh on the eyes when I was in that mode. Also, in OoT I found a similar situation where I just turn the 3D off but I found it much more acceptable in the first person parts where you are using the view button or shooting arrows or deku seeds. Those parts are too short to really tell, but I swear it makes a difference.

It is so obvious to me. Having your sprite on the screen in third person is like driving with a crack in your windshield blocking your view. The 3DS effect is hard on the eyes as it is, but nintendo should be looking into ways like this to limit that drawback. I wouldn't mind a 3DS Zelda game in a first person perspective. It worked in Metroid Prime

This all reminds me of the AVGN review of the Virtual Boy. He did a very fair review of it imo, and the best point was that a huge failing of the system was that the games were not in first person, aside from Teleroboxer which is a great game for the VB. To me it seems like nintendo is making the same mistake. Luckily it looks like the 3DS will be popular enough that 3rd parties will release first person titles eventually

Did anyone else notice this problem with the third person perspective?

Iknow what you mean but I don't think the world needs another FPS, the market is already saturated with FPS already. In fact, companies ahould start thinking aboutdifferent type of games.

He didn't say anything about first-person shooters and his point is pretty valid. The 3D effect comes to expression in first-person games, no matter the genre (be it platformers, action adventures, shooters or what ever).

yeah basically I was saying that third person games in a 3D environment do not work on the 3DS. Well, they are okay if you turn off the effect but how does that sell the system? I had to take the advice of others and only turn on the 3D in OoT for the cutscenes. I brought up metroid prime because I think that game proves you don't need a third person perspective for a game to work. Look how good the elder scrolls series works switching between first person and third person.

2D games would still be completely fine either way though. It's just that for 2D games the 3D effect is way more a gimmick than actually meaningful. Navigating a 3D environment with a real stereoscopic 3D effect is an incredible experience, and even though it is a bit of a gimmick there is also some actual meaning to it. Having depth perception can help you in a video game every bit as much as it helps us in real life. It's just that in real life you don't have judge your environment with a giant bug in front of your face all the time.

Well Mario Kart 7 will feature FPD :P though it also says Gyro so I am not sure if the two go hand and hand, it would be nice to also have the FPD not need Gyro, though I suppose it would help.

First person may work better for some people, but its not necessary for everyone. 3D is an effect that hits everyone a little differently, that's why there is a slider on the thing. Of course there will be first person games, there are already some in the works, but its not a necessity. Though I think Mirror's Edge would be pretty cool on the 3DS.

Bad COmpany 3 doesn't exist first of all ;), and second of all, I think (maybe I am wrong, but i dont think so lol) you are thinking of the Wii U.

And OP, my buddy got a DS just for FPS games because he played prime hunters and love it, but then no good FPS game came :P. I would love to see some games like PErfect Dark 64, Goldeneye 64, and Timesplitters on the 3DS (not necessarily those, but games like them).

if they do make first-person games, then they should try making Dementium or Amnesia for the 3DS

I don't think playing in the 3rd-person makes games any more difficult on the eyes. I think if the game is 3D, plain and simple, people who are headache-prone will get headaches.

And Nintendo doesn't really care much about the first-person perspective. Most of the games they released in first-person were developed outside of Japan, such as the Metroid Prime series.

I dunno about Doom, that game is really outdated, no cross hairs, the graphics better be redone, if something were to change.

Because that's terribly important when you got iron sights, right?
