Nintendo should be more in-tune with DLC.

There are a lot of benefits to DLC (downloadable content) like breathing fresh life into your old games being one of them. There are also some disadvantages, but I think Nintendo's approach should be better (they need a powerful system and a decent online component too though). So do you think Nintendo should have a more open mind to DLC?

No. This industry already has enough DLC chaos without Nintendo. The whole concept has quickly devolved into a glorifed cash-grab on the parts of developers and publishers, as if charging $50-60 wasn't enough to justify a video game in today's economy. If Nintendo could continue along the path of games like Animal Crossing and Mario Kart Wii, which offers certain events at certain times for free, it's no problem. However, I'm guessing that your message relates more to the typical way DLC is handled, which is definitely not the coolest of models.

This being said, I do expect Nintendo to follow a similar approach down the line. I'm just going to go nuts about it... :|

if they can be honest about it then sure. DLC has a bad rep in many circles and rightfully so. most if it is clearly there to rip those who dont know better off. from the classic horse armor in oblivion to unlocking content already on the disc. most of it is a dirty cash grab. but the more expansion type DLC (also sometimes referred to as expansion packs)....some ninty games could really benefit from this. games like mario cart, mario land, animal crossing, zelda...these could certainly benefit. new tracks in kart, new levels and worlds in land, a new mini adventure for skyward sword. it could be great. so if they 1) release a full game. 32 tracks ready to go in kart + lots of online modes and so on, lots of events and items in AC, around 40 hours of adventuring in zelda etc. 2) price the content well. if a zelda expansion is 20 quid then it should have a fairly big chunk of content. 4 dungeons kinda size. kart tracks should maybe be 1-2 euro each (or 6 euro for a pack of 5-6 tracks). then it could work out well. the idea of DLC is good. the execution though is an outright disgrace.

I prettymuch agree with everything OsanO said. DLC is great, some developers make great use of it, it's just that there are also some that are very annoying with it.

If they release a complete game, and add more with DLC for a worthy price, then yes that would be great. If they start releasing very small games with overpriced DLC than that would be horrible.

The answer is yes

There is no valid argument to not have it

Nintendo said for the Wii U. They will not personally do Paid DLC. Nintendo said if they ever do DLC they will make it free.

But that doesn't leave out 3rd Parties from including DLC on their systems.

No, you call it developers leaving stuff of out games then put it on later ..breathing a fresh life?...no. So far there's too many pointless DLC..devs right now are abusing it...leaving stuff out of games, then a week later yea new DLC we want $30 for it.

The only way I would be happy with it is if they do it like valve, and offer it for free. I already paid for the game. Why do I need to fork over another $15 on top of the $60 I paid for 4 new maps? I don't like being nickled and dimed like that. I miss the days when people could easily make their own map for a game and offer it online.

I don't think DLC is worth it. I'd rather have a full game when I pick it up.

DLC is definitely helpful for alot of games, especially DLC that adds to a game's campaign.

You have no idea what you are asking for. All Nintendo could possibly muster is DLC for extra ftch quests for ZELDA. Has Nintendo even given their fanbase demos for games yet?

30 dollar DLC?

Also people do understand that a game is finished long before it's released right? And from that point on devs can work on DLC?

Everyone gets that correct?

Also DLC allows devs to branch out stories and mechanics that don't appeal to the larger base of all buyers but instead is directed toward niche users

You seem confused friend. If you actually believe that developers hit the chalk board once as the game is complete to think of new way to branch the story for gamers you are wrong.

Levels are held back from the main game and released as DLC... not sayng that they strip the game of this but it is in the developers mind far ahead of time. Look at Deus Ex... one month after release.

I for once think DLC has screwed gamers out of what used to be fully fleshed out games. What you end up doing is spending $100 + dollars on what shouod have been a $50 game.

I tihnk that if they start the DLC craze the quality of thei products will drop. They always release complete, full games. Unless it's free DLC like in Dragon Quest IX, I say avoid it. They already have alot of content in their games.

Nintendo needs to... needs to stay away from paid DLC. I dont want to see Nintendo games where I have to pay to unlock a new character or a level.

Nintendo recently stated they want to offer the full experience, without cheating the gamer. I often feel that a lot of DLC packs that come out are planned pre-release, with the sole intention of turning a $60 product into an $80-$100 product.

The good thing is Nintendo isn't limiting developers with the 3DS (and most likely the Wii U too). Developers can have DLC and do as they please, but Nintendo themselves are not in favour of charging the consumer for post-game content and will most likely continue to only provide free DLC, like they've done in the past.

Read more if you're interested.

First of all DLC is almost always a bad idea. Because game developers hold stuff back thats in the finished game then sell it later and make more money. Nintendo on the other hand doesnt do that they give you everything at once. However sometimes actually new stuff gets made ie map packs and such for COD or Halo.

BUT!!!

Nintendo said awhile ago that they are infact GOING TO HAVE DLC FOR THE 3DS ONLY. And they stated that for their games (First party games) THEY WILL ONLY RELEASE BRAND NEW THINGS. They wont hold stuff back. Which I guess is good but if Nintendo kept it free then that would be great.

Forgot to add Demos are also coming when the DLC happens on the 3DS.
