Anyone want to explain to me what this does, exactly, that can't be done already?

Same thing as the Nintendo SD cards.... charging more money for the nintendo name on it?
So...it doesn't do anything new? What is the point of this thing? Anyone?
its soley for wireless routing... its a wireless router for wii and DS, so the USB wifi will be basically obsolete for anyone purchasing thisgarrett_duffman
$53 to get rid of a cord? Really?
I notice that it also says "LAN" on the back. Could you hypothetically hook up a bunch of Wiis and have a LAN party with that? Do you even need one of those things to have LAN?

alot of wireless routers still have LAN ports on them for wired things, i suppose it COULD work in theory, it wouldnt be geniune LAN though, it would be the same as having multiple wii's in your house using wifi online

A lot of other wi-fi routers are around $50. I think...
But it's not simply to get rid of a cord (I think...), cause if you have multiple things that require an internet connection, you can connect them all with just one of these, as opposed to buying multiple of those Wi-fi usb things.

Yeah seriously. There's plenty of other SD cards and Wireless Routers out there. They should stop wasting their time on this crap and instead spend their time making the Wii able to read VC games off of SD cards.
The Wii should have came packaged with one of these. Ovirew
No.
and now they are making more money with the Internet problems they failed to address. Typical Nintendo - "No, no, no Thompson! Don't make the console any better than what it is! That's for the next project!"Ovirew
Uh?

Okayyyyy....well, can you at least explain why you feel that way, rather than just giving an opinion without a reason for it?1) Do laptops come packed with WiFi routers? No, they don't. They are just WiFi ready, like the Wii. This means you are free to buy whatever router you want, depending on how much you are willing to spend, the size of your house/apartment and whatnot.
2) What issues? As far as I know, the only routers that have issues with the Wii are ****** routers, and even those can issues be fixed rather easily.
The Wii should have came packaged with one of these. First they fudged on the controller precision, safety (apparently), and system space and are releasing pricey peripherals for us to fix those issues, and now they are making more money with the Internet problems they failed to address. no. routers arent excatly cheap including a router would have bumped up the price and a lot of people already have routers. There is no safety problem. space isnt an issue just an inconvenience and there isnt internet problems. The router is capitalizing on peoples lack of networking equipment. The wii only has wireless internet which is cheap and convenient but then theres the people who dont have wireless internet something that i would say a slight majority of core gamers have. For people who have limited knowledge on technology for nintendo to make a product like this is good for them and the consumer and they are offering it at a very reasonable price
1) The Wii is marketed as a console for 'everyone' and caters to people with simple stuff. Setting up a router is difficult for most people, therefore, the Wii should just come with its very own router.1) Do laptops come packed with WiFi routers? No, they don't. 2) I meant issues with Wii hardware. The Wii remote lacked full precision, that the Wiiremote + will add to it. The console itself has low storage capacity which they are addressing NOW. The controllers hit people (which I am questionable about becuase I never had an issue throwing my wii remote by mistake, but this just goes to reconfirm my previous claim that the Wii caters to the casual) so they made rubber sleeves and enhanced wrist straps for them. They keep making us buy new stuff, when it should have been there to begin with.
And thank ye.

My router was like 50 dollars when we got it, and it has wired and wireless capabilities. It would have made the console an even 300 dollars, or else they could have just kept it its current price since I've heard the technology in the remotes is actually worth less than what they charge us for them. What I said was relevant to the topic - it pertained to the router peripheral and my thoughts on it.
And as for 'easy', my mom is scared to touch a computer, so she wouldn't know slot A from B when it comes to a computer, you know? If she used a Wii, which she doesn't, she might find it more reassuring and comfortable to figure out.

The problem is that, while your mom can't install a router, and that's ok, because some people just aren't into technology, she wouldn't be able to install this Nintendo router either, even if it came packaged with the Wii, because the installation procedure will be the very same that's necessary for a regular router. So, I don't really see what's your point when you rant about how the Wii should have come with a router. It makes no sense.

It might not, but it's the same reason why IPod and ITunes got people into downloading music again - it didn't introduce the idea, but it made it 'cool'.[QUOTE="bob_newman"]I didn't see this on the boards yet, so I thought I'd post it.

Lol,same thing as the Wii yoga mat, changing the price just because it says Nintendo on it?2) I meant issues with Wii hardware. He kinda has a good point there. Sort of. He's right that the Wii-remote didn't have the 1:1 precision it promised, but it's new technology, you know? Expecting the Wii-remote to be absolutely perfect the first time is almost like saying that the SNES controller should have come with dual joysticks.
And yes, the console does have low storage capacity, and I totally agree with you, and I think that this is entirely Nintendo's fault. They don't let you play VC games off of a SD card, the Wii can't hold a lot, and moving a VC game from the SD card back to the Wii takes a really long time and is a hassle we shouldn't have to deal with. So the only option left is to delete it and re-download it when you want to play it agian. But what if you don't have super fast internet? If you have mildly slow internet, it could take 20 to maybe even half an hour just to redownload that VC game. Pain in the ass, right?
And @ the throwing the Wii-remotes thing. That's not really Nintendo's fault. It's just the people either not using the original wrist strap, swinging too hard, and letting go.

The router is just a router packaged with the wii or without its going to be as hard or easy to set up as a normal router and no more convenient.
