%Quick Notes

  • A lot of Indie Wii U games are TBD so I don’t know for sure when they will come out.
  • I tried not to include super small games, so I didn’t include every single Wii U or 3DS game on this list.
  • A lot of the 3DS lineup was from SuperMetalDave’s rumored lineup on NeoGaf, so I added on to that list, and I added a Wii U list as well. Here is his list
  • I might have gotten some 3rd Party and Indie Companies mixed up, so please let me know if I did anything wrong or missing anything super important.
  • The January and February list is a bit low, but that’s because: 1. Nintendo 3DS didn’t have any HUGE games during that time period except Fire Emblem, and 2. My memory is a bit fuzzy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, there you go. I know the Wii U list is smaller than the 3DS list and there are more Indies than AAA big budget games on the Wii U, but that is just how things are.

Sorry if a few things in this list is a little inaccurate, that is my fault. Let me know if you notice anything wrong.

I hope this list has given you some knowledge about games that you might not have even heard about that are coming out on the Wii U or 3DS.

Also, let me know what you think about the games so far this year. Has Nintendo had a good year so far with the games they have put out, or is it just like last year? Please discuss, and I hope you enjoyed it!

Edit 1: Codename N-Stars turns out to be Mario Party: Star Rush, and is releasing on November 4, 2016; Paper Mario Color Trash, I mean Splash is coming out October 7, 2016. These dates were added and are now official. If there is anything new that needs to be updated let me know.

Edit 2: WHOA! How about Zelda? Well, that next day, we got a ton of news and release dates. So let me explain what happened. Rhythm Heaven MegaMix was surprisingly released yesterday, out of all times, so I added that in. Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past now has a release date of September 16, 2016, still no news for DQ8 yet. Shantae is coming out 9/27/2016. Corpse Party is coming out August 30, 2016. BoxBoxBoy got announced for a release date of June 30, 2016. However, that is pretty much all I have. Please let me know if anything new happens, so I can update it again.

Edit 3: A few tweaks have been made, and some new Wii U games have released.

I know, that's a 2017 game. This list is about 2016 games.

Great List....

I don't get why Nintendo halt's everything with their existing system, prior to the release of a new console. You'd think they'd want some momentum... like what PS3 had with games like Last of Us/GTA 5/Tomb Raider/BioShock. Not like a 12 month drought of a couple releases for the whole year.

So many unanswered questions with the new console. I've halted my Wii U purchases until we get some more info. Are all my eshop purchases going into a black hole next year? How long will nintendo repair gamepads? Will Wii U Software work with NX? Too risky at this point to invest any more money into the Wii U library.

@The-Butcher248: I respect your caution with buying more Wii U stuff, and it would be appreciated if Nintendo explicitly told us that Wii and Wii U digital purchases will be supported in the future on the NX. However, I am going in the opposite direction of you and getting things to add to my collection. I just purchased The Legend of Zelda: a Link to the Past in the Nintendo eShop on the 40% off sale + 10% off "Just for You" bonus discount. It was the first Zelda game I played on the SNES. I only have about 8mb of storage left on the Wii U, so I am making plans to get an external HDD for larger games like Oddworld: New n Tasty. Since the Wii Nintendo seems to be expanding their digital store and not shrinking it, so I get a feeling that Wii/Wii U/3DS games are going to be there for the NX. I still need to get physical copies of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and a few other 3rd party titles. But yeah, this time of uncertainty and the unknown is both exciting and a little stressful. I would say backwards compatibility is a feature that everyone cares about.

Backwards compatibility is the only strength Nintendo has over the competition so it can not afford to lose such a feature.
