A lot of overall top game threads are popping up, but what do you think will be the best Nintendo game of 09? I'm having a difficult time deciding myself!
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I said New Super Mario Bros. Wii because it looks like it will be interesting. I didn't say Metroid Prime Trilogy even though I want that game I didn't say it because it is a Remake/Complilation.
I'm actually torn between a couple of choices here. While I think New Super Mario Bros. will end up as probably the best game of 2009 for not only Nintendo, but the Wii itself, I think Wii Sports Resort may end up as the system's most important and successful game of the year (not counting sales of games from previous years, like Wii Fit and Mario Kart). NSMBWii speaks for itself, but the impact of Wii Motion Plus and the idea of playing Wii Sports on a slightly deeper scale could make Wii Sports Resort a major force for even the mighty Mario to deal with. For now, I'm going to say NSMB, but I'm not confident enough to vote for it at the time. That's how much I'm respecting Resort right now.
On the latest IGN podcast, they said that you need to re-calibrate the motion+ every 10 seconds...clicketyclick
Sheesh... I'm hoping that was a matter of IGN not being able to get their most preferred setting down more than the accessory being flawed. Since you brought it up, though, I did overhear an employee at GameSpot talking about how much he enjoyed using MotionPlus in a golf game (probably Tiger Woods) and complimented its accuracy. Perhaps the model IGN got was an earlier model or something, which would explain a bug or two. In any case, no point in making a huge fuss over this until we got our own hands on it, right?
They said that the thing still tracks you and everything, but the longer you play, the more off it gets from the twists and turns you do and they were talking about Wii Sports Resort fencing. clicketyclick
Heh, you mean like accessory fatigue? That's something you don't see everyday. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever seen it outside of something starting to go bad completely. :P Not only would something like that hurt a game featuring swordplay, but that doesn't seem too ideal for any game that uses the thing for a long period of time. Perhaps the effects of having MotionPlus may have something to do with it draining the batteries of the Wii Remote or something...? At this point, one can only guess as to the reason why such could happen. At this point, though, I'm still rather optimistic.

Although I'm also guessing, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with measurement error that's unavoidable with any mechanical instrument. Every time it measures something, it's got a margin of error from what the actual value is. The more you measure, the more that error is compounded. Eventually, it'll be quite noticeably far from the actual value. In this case, the actual value is where you're twisting and turning and how much. The noticeably compounded error would be your perception that the measurements are off and you need to re-calibrate.
So for example. let's say it has a margin of error of ±5 units. Let's say you move the motion+ 2 units right. It actually thinks you've moved 7 units right. Now you move 8 units down. It thinks you've moved 3 units down. Now you move 4 units left. It actually thinks you've moved 1 unit to the right.
If (0,0) is starting position, you have actually moved to (-2, -8 ). It thinks you're in position (8, -3).
Wii Sports Resort! :D I didn't vote for New Super Mario Brothers Wii because i kind of already know what to expect....Wii Sports Resort looks really fun and different and is a definite buy for me! It also comes with Wii Motion + which is already schedualed for tons of games!

I voted for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, because right now it looks like Nintendo's best release of 2009. I think that Punch-Out!! will be the runner up, and my personal favorite, but I'm sure that Wii Sports Resort will be number one in terms of sales.
thats seems odd. I certainly hope thats not the case. I'm looking forward to Wii Sports Resort. Everything I've read about the MotionPlus says it works flawlessly. Maybe IGN got a buggy device? Maybe they're exaggerating? idk, but I hope it works as advertised. Jamisonia
It works perfectly. I don't know what's wrong with IGN but I haven't noticed anything wrong with WM+.
I was worried about it needing to be calibrated often during gameplay so I tested it while playing Disc Golf in Tiger Woods. I picked up the disc and just held it in my hand in-game and moved it around for a couple minutes to see just how accurate it is over time. It mimicked my hand perfectly in that time, no matter how slow or fast I moved, it was completely 1:1. I was impressed it even registered when I would make my hand shake ever so slightly. There's nothing to worry about, it's great.
Oh, and I voted Wii Sports Resort.
Excitebots - Throw away game by Nintendo regardless of how good it actualy was. I prefer Mario Kart Wii
Metroid Prime Trilogy - Great games, probably a 2010 pick up for me, but they all came out already
Punch-Out - Good nostalgia game, it will do well and have legs but it really will mainly sell to fans of the original on NES and probably few others
Wii Sports Resort - Will be big and I expect it as a pack in with WM+ with the Wii by mid 2010 (make a new disc that also has all the original Wii Sports on it)
New Super Mario Bros Wii - will be the biggest seller of the Christmas Holiday I think. This seriously could do better than MW2 combined. Look for Big N to push serious ad dollars in the fall to sell this game. 2D side scrolling cooperative fun for 4 players?? What took so damn long.
Honorable Mention - Wii Fit Plus - could be bigger than NSMBW.
I know what to expect from NSMB...and Metroid Trilogy is 3 past games...gotta go with Wii Sports Resort! But I'm more excited for Little King Story:D
On the latest IGN podcast, they said that you need to re-calibrate the motion+ every 10 seconds...clicketyclickI think you misheard because on all the stage demo's of Red Steel 2 they didn't stop every 10 secs to recalibrate it. I remember reading in the review for one of the Tennis games that you need to reorient the Wiimote after points so that the game is certain where it is. But they didn't say that about the other Tennis game or Tiger Woods so I'm certain you misunderstood.
punch out since 1. metroid is 3 old games I've already played 2. I haven't played excitebots but I doubt its as good as my choice 3. Wii sports resort = hate 4. NSMB. We haven't played it yet but its basically a DS game that should have online. Like REALLY should have online. Like its almost a deal breaker to not have online. My choice is punch out. I love that gamesnowman6251
1. ok
2. no opinion
3. hate, why?
4. get friends dude, I mean real ones
New Super Mario Bros. Wii for sure! It was brilliant on DS so it's going to be even better on Wii :D But I think wii sports resort will sell well because they wouldnt have made a second one if it didnt do well the first time. Most people who own a wii will also own wii sports, and I think they'll be interested in the wii motion plus that comes with it. I know I am!
