What do you guys think Nintendo will do now that there name and there console's are so big with the casual market? Will they NEED to make another Wii or DS to keep the market satisfied? If so what do you think Nintendo will implement in there new hardware? We can also go the other route if you want and instead of thinking what they might do just list off what you would want them to do? How long do you think the Wii's life cycle will be? These are all good questions that might help open our eyes to the future of gaming with Nintendo.

Personal Opinion

I personally think that Nintendo and there console's (Wii and DS) are such a pop sensation that to change the name now would only bring about confusion and might encourage there install base to look at another console for there casual needs (360/Natal). If Nintendo does indeed intend to release another home console I believe it will still have the same name with maybe a lil difference, perhaps Wii2, WiiHD, or even WiiPlus. I personally would like to see them have an HD option along with WM+ built in or maybe a brand new enhanced controller all together. Allow for movies to be played, an improved web browser, improved online componite. I think Nintendo has learned from the Wii. I think a great deal of improvements are on the way with Nintendo's next Wii. They see the advancement of the medium through casual markets but more recently have kept true to there hardcore fans. They are slowly but surely improving there hardcore elements now that they have almost perfected there casual market.

What do you guys think its coming if anything at all??

after wii, i'm sure they will bring something fresh. After all, Nintendo's strategy is to find a blue ocean and stay there. but i hope they name the next console Ultra Nintendo Entertainment System

Well I think that would only be logical but Nintendo blew logic out of the window this generation. I want them to continue to improve there controller it needs it.

I'm hoping they put into place a username system, and enable all purchased vc and wiiware games to be made transferrable to all future consoles. I'm hoping the next console is hardcore. I am hoping the next console has a much better online infrustructure. I am hoping for some really kick-ass games. I am hoping for a good controller, that can still perform the actions of the wii remote for back-wards compatibility of wii games, and also Gamecube games. Unless Gamecube games will be added to the vc then.

Now that is dreaming my friend I like all those ideas. I dont see hardcore but I do see improvements on both sides of the fence for both hardcore and casual.

Again I doubt the name change the Wii as a brand is to popular.

I think I heard Nintendo noting that they wouldn't use the Wii name again if its a totally new console. Actually Nintendo hasn't used the same naming system since naming the SNES. N64, Gamecube, Wii, all different. If anything once Wii gets old, naming a console after something that is old would be moronic.

You don't know Nintendo's overall strategy. Even they know that you cannot abide by the same again and again, and some day continuing to go for the Blue Ocean, that is the audience that isn't into gaming will fail. Sure Nintendo's strat this round was and still is Blue Ocean, even Nintendo knows that that strat will stop working. Look at Natal and PS3, MS and Sony will become sharks and the Blue Ocean will become a Red Ocean and Nintendo will have to try something else.

Either way, I think most people know that Nintendo's strat was far from 'Blue Ocean only', their aim was to open the doors for gaming and get more people into it and hence creating more [hardcore] players. I think this strat will help all of gaming of course, but it will help Nintendo the most.

I think they need to keep the Wii name, but I hope they don't because then it's almost guaranteed that the next console will be called Super Wii.

Well then if you heard from Nintendo themselfs that they dont wanna use the Wii name again then that settels that. I like your thinking how you believe Nintendo is only drawing in more ppl to become hardcore players. So if you can think a bit further ahead what would u either like to see or think they might put into the next Nintendo?

Blue Ocean is not limited to motion controls or casual market, its a reference to anything that is untapped by the competition. Just because other people got into their blue ocean doesnt mean they cant find other blue ocean strategies to continue innovation.

Idk I think Nintendo can only really do is make a system with more power and hopefuly a more responsive controller. They had a cop out for this gen's system being less powerful but I dont see them doing that again next gen.

I just want a more powerful console! I don't care what they do i just want to see a zelda game or mario game with PS3 like Graphics! But of course Motion control isn't too much to ask for either! Nintendo would sooner bring in more advancedMotion Control againthan a more powerful console though.

I wouldnt be so sure about that one just cause they are very into emmersion and better graphics would only add to that...Nintendo wont take the next step without bumping up the graphics even a lil bit...but to be honest I would love even BETTER motion controles.

they'll be doing something new again i'm sure...

i wonder what the next blue ocean is.... motion controls will soon be turning red when natal and sony's controller are released......

now that i think of it... this gen will last way longer than we thought.... wii's graphics are not that bad... inferior to ps3 and 360 yes but they're way better than last gen's... surely, if you put SMG's graphics to every game out now, then everyone will be satisfied.......

and also, making ps3-like graphics is expensive now (the reason why monster hunter tri is coming to the wii)... if they make a new console it's not practical for both them and us.. not to mention the developers.... it'll be costly to produce, and it'll cost too much to be bought by most people....

well i never said anything like that......

actually i did, but it is on topic.. i think.. and i didn't say exactly when..... IMO it is too soon to tell... but they'll be doing something so new and original that we can't figure out exactly what it will be (for now).. and if they make them now....again, it'll be too soon too.. because there isn't anything so new and original (and not practical).... or maybe there is but we don't now... or i don't know...

when talking about these things like: what will be next, what will happen, or, will there be a new gimmick, time is always a variable.... seeing as the wii is just gaining momentum (3rd part support is just starting), and seeing that we cannot even give a blue ocean for them to tackle, well... it's a long ways off....... ....

all i'm saying is... it's too soon to speculate really.... it's just that, it'll be new.. and original that we'll all be drooling at it... that's all we.. (or maybe just i?) can say for now... we (or am i alone in this?) can't see anything tangible... for now....

maybe if there's a new tech revealed... like that self-charging nokia cellphone on yahoo news... feeding off from radio waves scattered around... can keep a cellphone long enough on calls and slowly charging it on standby... maybe that's a new step for wii remotes (or some other wireless controller they come up with.... watches? gloves?) we don't need batteries.. now they can get power from radio waves... or any other things that are abundant... heat maybe?.....

well that's just for the controllers (if there are any next gen).. but for the whole console... i just really don't know...

What if the next generation of gaming is going to be bigger than we are all thinking here. With the next gen consoles you could be in the video game. Not like Natal where you just talk to some kid and catch fish. But like i don't know maybe you put a mask on and then you are in the game and your surroundings are the game. If you know what i mean. You see monsters come at you and you have to fight them as you would if it were all real. That would be pretty cool.

Although you would need some room, you might end up back-handing your friends round the face:o

super wii would be a kewl name. basically i think the wii2 will be all about improvement and refinement...not innovation. i think ninty wont re-enter the hardware race but i think they will try and close the gap to an extent that 3rd parties will have an easier time porting wii2 games to and from the PS4/720. it wil of course be HD capable but id be surprised it if would support 1080P. 720P is the most popular so i think thats what ninty will focus on. i think the controller will have more buttons and better than wiimotion+ sensativity as standard. i think the IR camera will be improved for better accuracy. better rumble and a scroll wheel may also be in there. i dont think there will be many new major features in terms of channels....itll be more of a case of improving all the existing channels. full BC wth wii, GC (possibly with GC added to the VC), wiiware and the VC also of course and a possibly a 80GB laptop HDD as standard. thats what i think we will roughly see with the wii2. this is nintendo though...they could decide to just release a board for the PC that u put in a PCI express slot and download ure games through that....or they could have a console powered by rain and sunlight and u control it by hitting ure telly...u just dont know with nintendo :P.

There is already a device like that, you can probably find the video about it on youtube, I read up on it like last year. Some of its tech is being used in Natal I think. However it doesn't really work very well because people's concentration isn't all there. The whole Blue Ocean thing doesn't just come along whenever you feel like using it, so I don't expect a motion controls like move for Nintendo next gen. I think they will just improve on the motion control tech they already have and the system will sport the horsepower of the 360 and PS3 because it will be much cheaper tech in a few years. Maybe the gen after that we will get full 3D gaming

I could see Nintendo giving you a helmet that is supposed to use mind power for the games, but instead brainwashes you so that you buy all of their games (All your games are belong to me).

That would be fun having full 3D, though that could give migraines...

I think drastically changing the name would be a stupid decision by Nintendo. Many people would automatically buy it just because of the name, Wii is an established brand.

I think that they should do aomething like the wii again with the motion and activenss of it.

Although i think they should maybe go into more depth with it and try and move away from the cartoon kind of graphics.

I personally think Nintendo's next console will basically be like the SNES was to the NES, or like the GCN was to the N64; no big innovations, but pleanty of great games. And I don't think Nintendo's will call it anything that we expect it to. Probably something random, like "Sunn".

Actually if you notice its pretty widely known in the mainstream media as the Nintendo Wii, so just the name Nintendo before whatever the next system is called will suffice. Nintendo's consoles common nomenclature has always included the name Nintendo, Sega use to do that as well but Sony and Microsoft do not.

My friend was telling me that something like this has already been done, like someone above already said. But it isn't really what we think it is. It's based more on muscles instead of actual "thinking". Like you would have to concentrate really hard to get Mario to jump instead of thinking and imaging Mario jumping the way you want him to. This is all secondhand info to me so it may not all be accurate.

This is almost exactly how I see Nintendo's next console to be. I dont think they will stray far from the other systems graphics so third parties cant cry about it not having the horse power they need while also improving the motion control beyond that of WM+, I dont agree however on the more buttons...thats why they made motion...to eleminate more buttons....so the improved motion controle will allow them to use less buttons. Maybe a revamped interface maybe an actual hard drive just you know standard stuff ya know.

It should be the dual Wii, come with a 20" LCD touchscreen that used as the second screen, that also happens to be touchscreen. Then you can have like a giant DS.

I agree with Seperath.

I don't expect them to make any huge changes besides horsepower. I honestly expect them to just keep the Wii name, and just called it Wii HD or something something.

Maybe even... "Wii Next", like ya know.... We're next (but in gangsta terms). That would fit right in with the suburban kids just perfectly!!! lol jk

I imagine there will be a DS2, and a Wii 2. just too popular to abandon i'd think. even though brand name power doesn't always help, it can't hurt too much.

I really hope the Wii 2 is at least as powerful as a modern Netbook or cheap Laptop nowadays.

in 2011 i can totally see the next Wii with at least a single core 1.6Ghz to 2Ghz CPU, maybe dual core 2Ghz, and 1GB RAM, 256MB VRAM. that'd be awesome. and it needs 1080p

The Wii will stay and it has too. Finally Nintendo has a brand name that isn't dependet on their own.

Nintendo Entertainment System

Super Nintendo

Nintendo 64

Gamecube

Wii

Playstation and Xbox are brand names. Nintendo never really had a brand name (other than Nintendo) and wether we like it or not Wii has stuck and is now the most popular console right now. What they need to focus on is not repeating their mistake or the Sony mistake with the PS3.

I will make this brief but the PS3 was hampered by too many divergent priorities by Sony. I think they assumed that no matter what they brought out they would be number 1 so they decided to use PS3 as a trojan horse in the HD War and on that front they succeded. Quickly they found that the original price tag was too high and it had to come down. They choose Blu Ray over BC (by both choice and need) as such they cannot kill and abondon the PS2. Now there are months when the PS2 outsells the PS3 in new units. But it is too popluar just to kill.

Both MS and N made sure that BC worked well enough to kill old iterations and that has proved to be a good strategy. So where do I go, don't get complacent but don't get cocky. The next Wii should have the Wii name and have more horsepower plus I would think an evolution of the controller. Maybe encorporate WM+ or an even futher refinement, have a wireless Nunchuk standard etc. But they will have to focus on price and keep the unit under $299 at release.
