While I admire Ninty's revolutionary and fun ideas for control on the DS and Wii, I'd love to see them go back to more conventional controls next gen. But if they wanted to even take it further, what in the world could they do? I see no more even possible ideas for innovation in controls for next gen. I wish for a $250 dollar priced machine with graphics slightly better than Xbox 360 (which are perfectly good enough for me. Period. I could live without any more graphical upgrades from 360 for the rest of my gaming life.) and a traditional controller.

I'm sure nintendo is staying with the motion controls, they're just going to refine it even more and make motion sensing even more innovative and interactive, I couldn't see them going back to a standard controller at this point.

How could it be refined? I believe they nailed it pretty much dead on. Atleast as good as possible without a full body motion detecting suit. Geez. But will people still flock to Nintendo's next machine like they did the Wii if they've already experienced these kind of controls?

Isn't it obvious? Virtual reality. Headgear. Seizures and lawsuits, but oh so much fun.

improvements on the current motion controls. and graphics up to par with the next xbox and playstation. That way, Nintendo owners wont miss out on some big time multiplats like Unreal Tournament 3, DMC 4, RE 5, etc.

The new controller will feature five mini-wiimotes - one to attach to each finger - while taking graphics back to the 16-bit era.

Or maybe not.

Perhaps they'll implement absolute-position motion sensing in the next gen. (IE. the console could know exactly where the controllers are relative to a set point... I've seen ultrasonic-based systems that could do this). Or, alternatively, they could explore camera-body tracking systems. No, don't think "eyetoy"... There are already far better systems in existence.

Another non-motion related control they might look into is voice recognition. (Once again, don't base your opinion on existing examples: the technology is quickly improving)

Oh, and maybe they'll put in a better speaker next time around. :P

This will be the wii2:

It will take the wii's controls to the next level.  It will still be anchored by a redone wiimote, but it will come with many different kinds of secondary attachments, not just the nunchuck (and it wont need a wire attaching them).  It will also still have the classic controller, which will be a full fledged controller.  Nintendo will no longer insist that devs use the motion sensing exclusively, because motion sensing is no longer the single crutch of the console.  So, they'll be games with motion sensing, some without.  The graphics will be the weakest of the three consoles, but barely, which makes this possible.

If nintendo does that they'll beat out the xboxInfinity, the ps4, and the segaCrystalline

Bah. Nothing shall beat the awesome might of the segaCrystalline!

Also, I'm not sure if I just picked up player 1, 2, 3, or 4's wireless Nunchuk... (see the problem?)

Don't forget about the Atari Jaguar "Master System" and Gamegear Advance (They need to pick up the pace) fighting the 3S (3 screens, go Nintendo), and PSP 2. (Very creative, like always)

I really do think that this current "Wii" is more of a beta version put out to see how people would embrace the new controls.  Nintendo was almost in a "do or die" situation and had to distiguish itself from the other 2 console makers.  So far it seems to be working.

You have to think that in 2 years or so from now they could easily release Wii 2 with as a much more powerful unit, more powerful then even say the 360 or PS3 and still maintain a 300 or less price tag with the way computer chips and technology prices drop rapidly these days and with the current trend of backward compatibility it would not stomp on early adpaters.  The casuals, or so they are refered to, would still be happy with games like those out now (which are bound to improve as developers understand it more) and the hardcore cows and lemmings would line up like sheep.

im betting nintendos next machine will advance the values that made the wii such an enormous hit. namely accesability to non gamers and ease of use. it'll probably have better online features and a sleek design like the wii. probably will support playback of various media. graphics will improve for sure. but there hasn't been enough time to learn what kind of great innovations the wii is going to inspire in terms of game design so its hard to say what the next console will need to do in order to push vido games even further.

I have to disagree with you. Releasing a system in only two years would definitely "stomp on the early adopters." Developers would shift focus on the new system, which'll quickly diminish the Wii's supply of new titles. It'd make the average consumer feel like an idiot for buying the first Wii (there's no quicker way to lose customer loyalty than making them feel stupid for trusting you).

it would implement precise motion controls and look like the 360 and ps3 look now. trust me on that since 360 and ps3 are planning to keep there systems alive for at least 10 years while nintendo creates another one in 5 years to go on par with them yo.

i wouldn't expect anything too drastic. im thinking that all they'll do is upgrade graphics and put in a dvd/blue ray player or whatever.  the controls will be refinded but i don't think they'll evolve into something totally outrageous compared to the wii's controlls.  but that's just my opinion.

they are probably going to come up with soemthing awesome. Like they could come up with something like where u pu t straps on your legs and arms and u turn the console on. Then u would jsut move your hands and legs. Liek for instance when u snowboard u would pretend your're ina snowboard stance and u would probably jsut move around and jump when u need too? lol

These aren't things that we can actually predict.  Think about it, at the time of the GCN's launch would we have ever imagined that Wii would have a motion sensitive controller?  No.  These things have a way of working themselves out.

The console is six months old.  If you want better graphics give it another six months.
