Catchy title ;)
So anyway, what do you think about WiiSpeak? Do you think it'll be good or lead to more possiblities?

I think it'll silence those whining for voice chat.
I probably won't use it much, seeing as though most of my friends don't own a Wii.
I think it's dumb that it's limited to friend codes rather than random people.the_winner1234
Well what else did you expect from Nintendo?
I don't care that its not a headset, or something. The sad thing is, is that you can't talk to random people when you enter a match. Only your friends, and you can't play WITH your friend online (friends on another Wii) and go into a random player match with them.
When it comes to Nintendo's online, I don't expect much, its very disappointing. But, what makes me love Nintendo is the franchises. Balances I guess.
[QUOTE="scar-hawk"]I think it is going to be cool but do they have to update all the games that have wifi?Catchy title ;)

No ones said anything about updating games to include Wii Speak functionality. Though, I suppose developers could do that if they want to, if it's possible to do so that is.
I like it. It's pretty neat. It's funny to see how people complain they can't talk to random people.

This is why.
I want to trash talk people with out my mom yelling at methetriffle
The ability to talk to strangers would just lead to some bad online experiences.
Talking to friends ONLY can only lead to good things!

Because when that ability is allowed, people complain that there's too many kids and trash-talking people on it. It's like nobodies satisfied. The only way to try and fix it is to mute a bunch of people, which is just a nuisance and sort of defeats the purpose of random voice chat.
So why not make it just for friends?
Microsoft copyed Nintendo with their "avatars" so Nintendo copyed Microsoft to get them back with Wii Speak.
Their even now. >.>

Because it's nice to be able to contact the people you've just had a really good game with so you can add them as a friend and play with them again, rather than being forced to play random online games with cheaters. At least private messages should be allowed between strangers. That way, they could censor all cuss-words but you could still communicate with others. Online experience doesn't need to be one of either complete anarchy and depravity or sheltered disconnect.
I f'd your cat last night ;)I don't mind the fact that you can speak only with friends. Why would I want to talk to anybody but my friends, anyhow? I'm not the biggest fan of hearing some kid yell BS about my skills, family, cat, etc.
thebisonx
You can always hit the mute button.
the_winner1234
So I should turn all sound off because one kid wants to tell me what sexuality I am?
No can do.
It is wrong to assume that every person who wants to talk to random people is going to speak racist trash talk.the_winner1234
Nobody is assuming that EVERY person is going to trash talk.
But my experiences with XBL have left me with a bad taste for online voice chat.
I like the idea and will probably pick one up around the time I get Animal Crossing Wii. Just the fact alone that Nintendo is now going with voice chat is awesome, and I'm sure its just a matter of time before we start getting headsets and what not, just look at the DS which has its own headset now. Plus if a company like EA can make a great online system for Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 and get around using friend codes to play online, then I'm sure someone can get around the friend code chatting thing and have it so you can chat with random people.
Nintendo is still getting the hang of the whole online thing and though its not the best it could be, things could be a whole heck of alot worse and for free online play, can we really complain that certain things aren't overly great? With each game that comes out that supports online play, it just gets better and better. Look at the jump in quality from Super Smash Bros. Brawl to Mario Kart Wii, Brawl was super laggy and hardly worth it while Mario Kart doesn't lag that much and when it does the whole game doesn't freeze up like Brawl does. Its like I keep saying about the quality of games, give it about a year and the matter will be sorted out.
They aren't getting the "hang of it." If they really wanted to, they can make a great online experience where you can talk with random people and.....who knows....maybe even add them to your friends list from the game itself!! They have expert programmers that can surely copy the features of PS3 and 360. But they refuse to make a better system because they are afraid little kids will be molested when they go play Mario Kart.I like the idea and will probably pick one up around the time I get Animal Crossing Wii. I'm not sure I'd call it a fear of kids being molested or anything, but they do want to present a kid friendly image to, dare a I say, "lure" in the younger generation like some of us were oh so long ago with the colorful worlds on the 8-bit Nintendo. Also I don't think Nintendo's goal this generation is to just go off and copy Microsoft or Sony in any way, shape, or form. Their whole point and objective was to forge a new path and break away from the traditional way of gaming, to bring in others and change the way we think of games and how they are played. Who knows, maybe this Wii Speak thing will be awesome and completely change the way voice chat is input into games. Then again it might be something that is fully utilized in games like Animal Crossing while other companies will implement it in ways that make use of a headset or something.
My point is that Nintendo is feeling around for new ideas and different ways to do things that have already been done, why just do what other companies did and make a head set when the whole concept behind the Wii was to get people to play who wouldn't normally play. Remember Miyamoto's 2007 (I believe it was 07) E3 speech when he spoke about how he managed to get a way for his own wife, that would never pick up a game, to pick up the Wii and find aspects she enjoyed, all on her own. I see the same concept here with Wii Speak and I fully support Nintendo's idea behind it because I know they'll offer another form of voice chat shortly there after. They allow voice chat on the DS via a head set and I don't see them excluding the Wii from that for much longer. Wii Speak is just another way to take an aspect from more hard core games and allow others to be involved when before they'd be excluded. Yea its for the casual gamers but something tells me there will be a more hardcore gamer fix soon and who knows, maybe they'll implement both Wii Speak and a head set in games down the lines and just use a parental control feature to make sure that kids are only talking with those they know and with Wii Speak or something.
I look at the Wii games I've played online and think how much better the experience would've been with voice chat. But, I think the online system for the Wii is so broken and incomplete that WiiSpeak doesn't matter.
I have never been able to meet up with anyone on my friends list to play a game. The first road block on the road to playing together is exchaning the damn friend codes. If all that had to be exchanged was the system code, this wouldn't be too bad but every game has a code I have to swap.
The second issue is that I can't see if a friend is online without launching the game or a channel. And, I have to launch the game or channel related to that game. There isn't simply a channel that shows me what friends are online and the game they're currently playing.
Another issue is that many of the games require a friend hosted game to be able to join up. I can't just join the random match game they're playing and be able to interact with them.
The last and one of the biggest issues is that I can't become "friends" with someone I play in a random game. If I'm having a good time in Mario Kart or Smash Bros. (let's pretend the online wasn't a laggy mess), I can't hook up with them for another game let alone anything beyond that.
The only thing online provides is an opponent that's more intelligent than the AI. It's not enjoyable for long because there's no community.
Not Nintendo's best idea. but i still like it :D
i feel like everyone isn't taking it seriously.
so what if it's not a headset? maybe they might expand one day

Thank you Nintendo.
Thank you so much.
That was awesome. If I were Al Gore, I'd give you at least 150 Internets.
So, what I think about Wiispeak... Well, I never use a mic or a headset when I play on the PC. I don't like it. Partially, of course, because of people like Triffle. Thus, I probably won't get it. I really hope it does well, though. If it delivers what it promises, it will be way better than a headset... Unless you are Thetriffle, 13 years old, and you need "privacy", of course.
This feature would have been "great" if we were able to be able to join up with friends, and go into a room with random people but still be able to chat with your friends, and play with random people at the same time.
Do you understand what I mean? I would have no complaints if that were the case.
I think it'll silence those whining for voice chat.
I probably won't use it much, seeing as though most of my friends don't own a Wii.

I agree you, Nintendo is obssesed with safety of their players but instead of limiting it to just friends they should have parental controls. It's not like my parents will care. Also i don't know why they didnt make it a headset or sumthing to plug into the usb slot or maybe even wireless because the ''mic'' will hear everybody elses voice too, and would'nt this mean you will have to be a certain distance from the ''mic'' so your friends can hear you.[QUOTE="VGobbsesser"]It's better than a headset in some respects, and worse in other respects. And I'd still give the headset an edge over Wii Speak.Duckman5
What ways is it better?
It's better due to the fact that only you can hear what the other people are saying and your the only one who can talk into it at the moment. I have a mother who will probably sit there and watch me play the game just to hear what my friends are saying.........like if they're cursing or saying stupid s**t.
