Is it possible this is just the biggest troll ever? I really hope so, there is no need to add a second circle pad, let alone for only a few games.

Well they announced Monster Hunter 4, which is both great and odd. Why announce 3 and 4 together? The lack of talk about this peripheral suggests that it might not be as big a deal as people are imagining, unless it gets a mention next week.

Yeah it looks like that wasn't a focus and they even announced a new color for the standard 3DS. Hopefully this proves that the 2nd circle pad peripheral is just a peripheral for people who really need 2 analog sticks and not a whole new direction for the 3DS.

Yeah I know that's what I thought at first too. Maybe nintendo pulled it after they saw how divided people were about it...

I'm glad they didn't say anything about it. Why should they, when the original ds got along so well without it?

You don't have a console rehaul planned for release and cancel it based on what people say on the internet. Nintendo has a ton of data they get through market research, they know what consumers want without resorting to forums or gaming sites.

The original DS got by without a single analogue pad. Would you rather go without even the one?

You thought a peripheral got them excited, that thing was not going to sell any 3DS's lol. Either they knew the MH4 announcement was coming or they just thought with the price drop and a showcase of software, that Nintendo was going to be sitting pretty for a few months. I still think its true that the thing exist, but like I said, its not a big deal, its just a peripheral.

Brothers in Arms DS

Super Mario 64

Hotel Dusk: Room 215

They didn't mention it during the show, which I think is a good thing, but that doesn't mean the second circle pad went *poof* from existence. They still plan to release it, and 6 games have been announced that will support it: Monster Hunter 3G, Resident Evil Revelations, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble, Dynasty Warriors Vs and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

I'm sure most games will include it as an option, and not a requirement.

The "expansion pad" isn't going to be a Japan only thing either it seems, because of a recent comment from Nintendo of America:

"We can confirm that Nintendo plans to release the Circle Pad attachment, but Nintendo's regional subsidiaries will make further announcements about its availability at a later date." - Nintendo of America rep

well, considering that was one of the 3DS' bigger complaints, and how the vita has it (together with pretty much everything the 3DS has and more, hardware wise), a "catch up" peripheral could be big. Plus, if the balance board and, to an extent, motion+ are system sellers, why not a second analog?

Especially how cheap it is, there's no reason for it not to catch on.

Peripherals don't work as well for handhelds and that one is kind of bulky. Besides I don't think Vita is really a direct competitor to the 3DS. They seem to be mostly going for different audiences. The fact that 3DS is cheaper, has Nintendo franchises, has the more family friendly reputation, and has 3D distinguishes it enough. Besides the DS and Wii got along fine without 2 analog sticks with the touch screen/pointer controls. Actually the DS has no analog sticks at all.
