No, while they share similar aspects the story and Free-roaming aspects are completely different, obviously the story doesn't matter if you're comparing the games gameplay wise, so the free-roaming:
1. I'm pretty sure you can't attack people on the street.
2. The streets are pretty empty anyway, the driving around is just a way of making finding missionsa bit different.
So in my opinion no not that similar.
The GTA franchise is one of the 10 greatest franchises ever in console history.
This is just another clone "borrowing" from a great franchise.

I don't understand what you guys mean. Since when did GTA patent the free-roaming mechanic? This is like saying Oblivion is stealing from GTA. No More Heroes really doesn't revolve around free-roaming like GTA does, for in reality, that's all GTA is. Running around and killing people. In No More Heroes, you do run around and kill people, but it also has good characters, a unique combat system, funny minigames, a STORY, and an overall more creative premise.
Hahaha...The GTA franchise is one of the 10 greatest franchises ever in console history.

If I hadn't seen your posts in another thread I'd just pass over this as another stupid forum comment. But jeez, you're really making up some serious crap just because Suda made a negative comment about the wii. If you had done some research, you'd know that this is nothing like GTA, unless you mean just because the world is open. But then, it would really be stealing from Driver, or an older game(or the real world...), not GTA.

There's a difference between making something and perfecting it.
GTA perfected the free roam game, everyone else is below them.
GTA is the airplane, everyone else is just catapulting people into the sky.
Like bobbetybob said NMH is really nothing like GTA. It has a look similar to it, but thats about it. It is in no way a sandbox game, the overworld is a means to an end, not a playground for the player to explore. The focus of NMH is action, story and style which is mainly found in the games 9 assassinations and sub-missions meant for getting $$.
If I was gonna compare NMH to anything based on gameplay and structure Id say its more like Zelda than it is like GTA, instead of 9 dungeons and dungeon bosses you have 9 various locations and targets. And like Zelda theres some stuff to do in the overworld, but its rather minor and unimportant.

Yea...I agree with this guy.

I have to say Jasonguy your pretty wrong about this. There really isnt a free roaming experience in this game compared to GTA. The "free roaming" in NMH is just away to go to your missions rather then just clicking on something on the menu. Your still just mad that Suda said that 3rd party sales are near impossible to get on wii. Only established franchises can sell.
i think they are both very similar except GTA was more of a "do whatever i want ta" kind of game where NMH is way more gory(cutting people in half and watch their bodies split apart squirting blood all over the place) where GTA is just violent(beating up whoes for money, stabbing, stomping on face, running over people etc.) so i don't think NMH is entirely "equivelant" to GTA but are similar.

'Name a game the wii needs?' and you get nothing but sequel requests. Does that mean no one else can sell anything else on the wii? No, but 3rd parties need to create a game that is worthy of having a sequel (or 3) instead of pushing half done junk and then complaining about it. Now tie this back into NMH. Is this game going to do the equivalent of what the first GTA did from a play control, missions, graphical standpoint? Then when it flops let them go cry to their mother.

Again, why do you all see it this way? From what I've seen, No More Heroes has as much freedom as Super Mario 3 or Super Mario World. There is a world screen, but the only reason for it is to get from mission to mission. The difference definitely doesn't boil down to the gore factor. Since when did GTA own the rights to a gameplay mechanic where you drive down a street?
