Sigh they had an interview explaining why. Guess the complainers never played Super Metroid or other metorid games before prime. meimnobody
i have played all the other metriods but in prime 1 and 2 u can switch which was a great addition and all of a sudden in 3 they take it away and make u stack like in the old metriod games whats that about?

isnt the reason due to lack of buttons on the wiimote? Im not against stacked weapons, you could just add a lot more depth to fights if you have to counter enimies with certain weapons like the light and dark beams of echoes. Oh ya, i forgot, almost nobody likes echoes lol
People griped plain and simple. Metroid Prime 3 does have improvements and well stackable beams are part of the old formula. Samus suit isn't blown all to heck after all like in the two past primes so why she shouldn't she be able to combine the beams and even missle techs?
Anyone else think future metroid games will use the ship more even have outer space and orbital combat situations? Having it grapple and even be able to bomb certain areas is pretty awesome.

ya, it is pretty awesome. Im sure you will actually get to pilot the ship. Maybe you can remove the nunchuck and put the wiimote like a joystick in a modern day fighter jet, and press b to shoot because a is kind of hard to reach. I have always dreamed of a fighter plane game like that on the wii.
You don't need to switch back! The plasma beam rules! Also, there was nothing more annoying than having to switch beams anytime I wanted to go through a door. The game is Metroid, not "betcha, can't find the right key!".
Stackable beams were always a great idea...
stacked weapons is extremely lame. the old games sucked and the diff beams were what was cool about mp1 and mp2. i agree with the score gamespot gave this game it just doesnt compare to the old onesrkay36
Probably didn't read the review...
Stackable beams aren't bad, and if you think so, you've never played Super Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, or Metroid Fusion.ZebethOrZebes
True, but this is the Metroid PRIME series and that being said, most fan of the Metroid PRIME series expect a little bit of consistancy in the games. Personally I don't care, it's a great game either way.
I'm fine with stacked beams, it's more classic. The only flaw in the campaign is the absolutely useless ship missle expansions.NECR0CHILD313
Yeah thats what I was thinking. I have yet to use all these ship missle expansions I've gotten so far. Although I'm not finished yet, so maybe they are important later. Also I'm cool with stacked beams. It makes everything simpler, after playing Super Metroid on the VC recently I grew to like them.

You can bomb certain areas with your ship. The only time you'd ever have to use it is if you're playing on Hyper difficulty if you ask me. Anytime you're in an open area, go to command visor and you can hit Z to bomb the enemies.

Definately not the lack of buttons on the wii mote, since Number 2 isn't technically used at all on MP3.Phazevariance
It has a function. Check the manual.
In practice, it's not a button that's pressed often and it could have been used for beams. I still prefer stacked beams. You don't detract from the puzzles (you still can't open doors without certain beams and the plasma beam is needed to access certain areas), but you make travel less of a pain because you don't have to constantly change beams to go through the next door. Also, the ammo for the light and dark beams made them hard for me to justify using.
MP3 still has tactics for killing certain enemies. Some are only vunerable to phazon. Some become a cinch with an ice missle. So knowing what gun to bring to the fight is still an issue.
Stackable beams is a cleaner system and smooths out the gameplay in the backtracking areas without causing problems in the puzzle mechanics. It's a great system.
Aerial bombardment is also used to get a voucher in a certain area. Also it wipes out certain enemiessuch as a few boss encounters in open areas. I do expect future metroid games to use the ship missles and even have ship combat functions. After all in hunters you first started to use the ship to move around to different planets, space stations and we then saw that expanded into metroid prime 3.

Well I have, and I must say that I enjoyed switching and mixing weapons in Super Metroid, and seeing what the combinations gave you when you fused the super bomb to the beam. Spazer, wave, ice, plasma, they all gave you different results.
