Today in an interview with computerandvideogames.com, a UK Nintendo Rep stated that Nintendo is not planning on releasing a hard drive for the Wii.

Do you believe that they're lying about it, or do you think they really don't have any plans?

Can you think of any other times when Nintendo has lied to protect information on something they planned to unveil later?

p.s. the rep also said that SD cards would work with the wiiware games the same way as they do with virtual console games

Its fine with me even if they dont have one. Im happy with what im playing. WiiWare in 08 was a sweet mve. Now those games wont be overshadowed by Nintys Big 3 or any other good game coming out this holiday.

I definately hope they do add a firmware update, but from the sound of that interview it doesn't sound like they're going to...

Nintendo is the master of keeping customers in the dark I wouldn't be surprised if it was a lie.

I don't know, last year Iwata assured that the Wii would be compatible with USB HDD, and none of that happened yet. Is really a need at this time as the internal memory of several Wiis is surely full with VC games, as mine.

Lets wait to see if they can catch up fast enough with the user needs

they might not lie at all, for the moment

the downloadable stuff is coming in Q1 of 2008
all they will need to do is find a small hardrive, give it a white painting, find a wire and sell it .... there isn't much planning at all to do about such stuff
hard drives are extremely comon, nintendo has good partnerships with shops and distributers, it's no big deal for them

Won't work. The Wii was only designed to work with SD cards 2GB or below. It'll work with some 4GB cards, but not many. (this is due to an issue with the older SD card standard. It was addressed in the newer "High Capacity SD" standard, but apparently the Wii still uses the old standard)

Nintendo should make a firm-ware upgradesothat the UBS's on the Wii can exept any kind of hard-drive or thumb drive, so you could get an 80GB HDD (no one would need a 80giger) get a hard drive USB kit then bang you have a hard drive. or you could just buy one of those 20GB plam sized hard-drive from western digital.

yeah i was just to say what the above poster said lol, but Nintendo said THEY wouldn't make one. they might just allow ones that are already out to be used with a firmware update.

Sooner than you think, company like Red Octane will have downloadable content with their games. It's even said that MP3 will have additional stuff through WC24

JordanBeard

Anyone else still sick of the fact that the SD card is essentially useless aside from storing stuff that no game (or the main Wii channel menu) can access?

Anyhow, even if there isn't an official one, doesn't mean a 3rd-party manufacturer couldn't make one, just needs to be an external USB drive is all, although it'd only work within games that have the given code libraries to access the drive.

The question was if Nintendo themselves were making a hard drive not if they were upgrading the wii to use third party ones. There are security issues to be worked out after all.

Buy excite truck it uses the SD card to play custom soundtracks you put on the SD card.

Also, remember you can delete old VC games you don't play anymore.. Every purchase is saved in your account.. I bought Donkey Kong when it first came out.. And I deleted it quite some time ago..

Japan is getting Neo-Geo games this year. Those are too big for 512 MB of flash memory.

I LOVED the Neo-Geo! Samurai Warriors II was awesome. If we are talking about Neo-Geo Pocket. that is.

I just realized, after my 19th VC game download, I only have about 600 blocks left. So, what happens when I use all of the memory? Am I no longer able to purchase and downloadVC games? That would be bad business for Nintendo, me thinks.

Don't underesstimate the userbase. They understand the concept behind memory cards, just sell it under simple-to-understand, related terms:

STORE AN ADDITIONAL XXX OF GAMES AND MORE!*

HOLDS XX TIMES THE NUMBER OF GAMES VS A STANDARD WII SD CARD**.

...And the cincher...

A COST SAVINGS OF XX AMMOUNT!

Where did that come from?

I always thought an external hard drive was useless until they announced Wii Ware. They are going to need to do something.
