:cry::cry::cry::cry:

the worst has happened!!

well first it starts with my right arrow coming loose somehow, it still works fine, it's just really loose and doesn't click, so no biggy.

And then the worst happens, all of a sudden, out of no where, i notice my top screen feels really loose and flimsy. I immediately think 'oh no my hinge' so i look at the top part of the hinge, see nothing on either. so i just carry on playing, then the next time i flipped it shut, it felt even more loose and then i see on the other end of BOTH hinges, they had snapped.

I always hated that really loud click eveytime i opened and closed it, but i read they had fixed the hinge problem, and that it would be fine.

And then to top it off (this is probably the worst), a bit over 2 years ago (not long after i bought it, which was around jan '07) my barcode started peeling, and after a while i got the ****s with it, and thought ah ill never have to take it back, so i STUPIDLY just pulled it off, of course i tried to keep it somewhere at first, but it's long gone now...

here's a picture just so you can see for yourself. Do you think it's something I did, or the infamous 'hinge' problem?

sorry for the long post, i'm just venting a little.

i guess this is a good excuse to get a DSi, which I wasn't planning on.

The clicking sound when opening the ds doesn't have any relation to the cracked hinges. Several people have had clicking dsls for years without a problem. If you get a dsi or another lite, there is a good chance it will "click," too.

You should be jailed for abuse towards DS Lites... :x:P Just kidding... really sorry to see that your DS is practically coming apart. But yeah you'll be getting a brand new DSi soon so that should ease some of the pain. :D

Yeh, same thing happened to me TC. I had to pay £55 to get it repaired. This was last year.

Now, out of nowhere, the damn hinge got cracks again!!!! Sheesh, Nintendo repair things probably will ya?

I think the best thing to do would be to buy an unofficial shell from ebay. I think there extremely cheap (£8 in the UK mind you) and a triforce screwdriver (£2). However, fixing it yourself can be an extremely hard thing to do as well.... I'm considering such an option. Might as well take the risk.

Phew, thanks for this info dude, my DS lite has the clicking sound and i panicked when i read that guy post. And to the owner of the broken lite: You`re screwed! Nah i`m joking, but yeah, thats a good excuse for a DSi.

As long as your DS Lite still does its job, keep it and use it.

A broken hinged ds lite? xP. Well, if he keep using like that eventually it will split in two. (happened to someone in this forum. I can`t remember who, it was an old topic).

Before you play it much more, I would take it to a local game store (such as GameStop) to see if it can be repaired, and for what costs. When you get an estimate, decide if it's worth upgrading or repairing. You could also buy a shell, as GANGSTASAN suggested and if it breaks, attempt to sell it for parts.

I'm so sorry, man. :( That really sucks.

My DS clicks really loud, too. I've always liked it and taken it to mean my DS screen isn't going to budge. I don't think the click has anything to do with the hinge.

Super glue and some duck tape ought to do the job. Used it on my cracked Wii and the results couldn't have been better! ;)

I kid, I kid. But in all seriousness, I'm sorry to hear of your lite's condition. If it feels uncomfortable and begins breaking in two I'd say buy a DSi, or even another lite. You should be able to land yourself a good deal buying a used one at this point and time!

EDIT: "Super clue" and I accidentally quoted myself. This was in dire need of an edit.
