Not bashing, but don't you think the ds is a bit overrated?

I must start off by saying I have 3 DS LITES (One It's a wonderful edition, Final Fantasy 3, and Ring of fates one), and I have like alot of games for it, but some times when I play the DS, it feels too toyish, and well "cheap" (I'm not trying to offend or piss off anyone). I know it's suppose to be accesible, but the quality of many games on it aren't as good as it used to be and when I see games like 358/2 days (did I get the # right?) and ff4, I just think WOW but feel a little awkward tht it's on the DS.

Not bashing, just how I feel lately....Do any of you think that too?

P.S. okay cheap is a little too extreme, but can't think of a better word....MUST IMPROVE MY DICTION!!!

i understand where you are coming from. i was put off from buying one for a good while until metroid hunters came out. im not really into the gimmicky games, so i thought as you do (many of the games at the time didnt appeal to me). later on, i noticed the quality of the games getting better and decided to get one, and ive loved it. im still upset that a lot of third party companies still put out garbage on this system and the wii, but every month or so,you'll get a gem for this system if your patient. also, by sitting at the slots and letting it warm up, sorta speak (about sticking with the DS), the jackpot is coming! next years line up is probably gonna be the best so far, by far. that alone hopefully will kill your notion that the DS is overrated.

hmmm... I dont really feel the same way, I mean they do put alot of crappy games on the ds (mostly movie games), like they do with the wii and all its shovelware (I like the wii not bashing ;)). But there are just to many good games out there to pass up. There are atleast 55as of now, and more coming next year. Also there are still very high quailty games coming out. Just to name a few this year we've gotten, Zelda, Pokemon, Custom Robo, Final Fantasy Chocobo Tales (its a pretty good minigame collection/card battler), sonic rush adventure, and Mario party DS, and Contra 4.

Next year looks even better with high quailty games like KH 368/2 days(yes you got it right), FFIV,FFCC, FFTA2, Ninja Gaiden, Kirby superstar saga (remake), and Advance wars. Theres probably alot more that I didnt list but those are alot of gamesjust for the first and 2nd quarter! (maybe 3rd for some).

It just depends on the game you play, and by the looks of it when you say quailty you mean graphics, you should probably get a side scroller or 2d game thats whats best on the DS ;).

Yes, I feel the same way as you do. Infact, I'm very close to saying the DS sucks. But I get my mind changed by a selection of few games. There are times where I wish I had gotten a PSP instead but PSP's games just seem like.. I don't know how put this lightly but "PS2 games that never made it". DS games just seem so much more original and DS is a system all it's own whereas PSP seems like Sony just wants to remind you that they're products are out there when you're not near an electical outlet (not trying to bash, hell, I still plan to get a PSP).

I played Elite Beat Agents, loved it. Super Mario 64 DS, it was like I was 11 all over again. Pokemon Diamond, a great game with lots of replay value and Hotel Dusk: Room 215, a very stylish game. I have a few more but I think you get my point. But again, I do feel like we've been overridden with too many gimmicky RPG's, 2D Platformers and Puzzle games for the DS. I mean, enough's enough.

This is why I can't wait until '08. Already, I am planning to buy Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword and hopefully, I'll find more ineteresting games. 'Til then...

To me, the DS is great at games that are fun, like those multiplayers and games that make use of the touch screen feature. And the goodgames that uses the touch screen intensivelyprovide an experience that you can never find on another console(except maybe the Wii). That is what i find the DS good at doing, some sort of "special" "hands-on"gameplay that other consoles cant provide. Other than that, the DS does have a variety of RPGs as well, those Final Fantasies and Zeldas are definetly great RPGs.

But one thing for sure is, when it comes down to fantastic graphics, the DS does not have it, since it's specs aint as powerful as the PSP, so graphically it will always be losing out.
For me, gameplay is always the priority, graphics is just icing on the cake, so i'm pretty okay with the DS so far.
And with those nice games coming out next year, i guess it's all good =)

Iplay my DS a while, than I stop playing for a extended amount of time. 6 months later, I will realizeI have a DS (old skool phat!!) and I am stupid not to pick on games I missed out on. So I get, rent, borrow them until I'm happy. Than the cycle repeats. I'm getting back into my DS again and hope I neverjump out of it's addictive bubble again.

Overrated ?? Do you not see the library of games we have now? Do you not see the line up of awesome games coming in 2008 ?? The DS is a great handheld , and it's not overrated . Infact , if you ask me , I'd say it's underrated , because many people shun away from the DS because it's hardware is "weak" , even when it still manages to produce loads of great games .

The DS is the best selling video game "thing" in the world. everyone owns at least two, and in Japan, they store theirs in any free space they can find. I do feel a little akward with the games, but they can do a lot with them (4-player CO-OP, WI-FI) that can make them a good experience. They did a great job with FF3, so they should do great with FF4.

That's what I thought at the beginning, but now, I find myself playing with my DS everyday. There are a lot of quality games out there for DS; Final Fantasy 3, Mario Kart, March of the Minis, Yoshi's Island, Bleach... just to name a few. I even thought Elite Beat Agents was lame at first, but when I played it, I was totally 'in to'.

And while you say that it feels too toyish- you're right... because it is a toy. But I know what you mean- you'd rather be seen with a PSP because there's a perception that it is more suitable for more mature. I disagree however.

The DS does look a bit more "toyish and cheep" than the psp. But thats because it basically is lol. I dont care though, its games are much better and the touch screen is one of ninty's greatest editions.

2005 was the best year for the DS, and you are right, the DS has been on the side ever since the Wii came by, but still, if you know where to look.... you will find the best games this gen on your hands :D

Uh, no way. I don't leave home without my DS and I play it more than I do my PC or my broter's Wii (which resides at my house). There are so many games, and so many TYPES of games, that there is always something different and fun for me to play. I seriously don't see how the system is overrated at all. It has an innovative design that hads a whole new element to game play in general, but especially to handheld gaming.

I just got a DS lite, And I have owned a PSP (for 2 years I got it for my BD). I have to say that the selection of games that the DS has is much better compared to the PS2 rejects that the PSP has been putting out. MGSPO was the only game that I beat on my PSP. And sence I bought my DS there are atleast 10+ games that are must have (like I would kill for) were as MGSPO was the only game that gave me that fealing when I had my PSP.

The game are what its all about. Just look at all the cool things the PSP can do that the DS can't, Like get online out of the box play music and video, store pic and other things.

But its the game the game I tell you. And that is why the DS has sold over 53 Million units (not shipped but sold) were as the PSP has"SOLD" just over 14 million and Sony has "SHIPPED" 25 million.

The DS is the king,Queen, and Presidentof portible gaming.

Actually, if you buy it, there is a device that lets you play mp3's on the DS. There's also a homebrew up at that lets you store pics on a cartridge and has a built in pic veiewer and stuff. That's one thing I really love about DS...the homebrew options are endless.

Perhaps your game selection is poor? I have forty or more games, and I'd say the majority of them I really liked. You just need to find a genre that suits you on the DS. Not every genre translates as well to the DS as another. I don't really know what you mean by cheap... if you mean games then you're definitely wrong because there is a very wide variety of games to pick from (helpful hint: don't be intimidated by games you don't think you'll like such as Phoenix Wright or Trauma Center, you'll be surprised to see that they are actually addictive games), and if you mean hardware quality then you're still wrong considering my DS and DS Lite are still in perfect condition (except for my DS Lite getting slightly dirty... but it's a glossy white, it's to be expected).

I am a really big Nintendo fan and have been since i was 5 and first started gaming, the Nintendo 64 was my favourite system of all time, i really enjoyed the games on the Nintendo Gamecube and i love my Wii with a passion... But! God himself could not make a Handheld gaming device that i would enjoy and have games that keep me interested.

The DS is great if you stick to Nintendo games.Theres a few good third party but theres also alot of junk.

The Wii is the same way. Key franchises like zelda are great. But they also release stuff that uses the Wiimote just to use it.No more TECH DEMO/MINIGAME JUNK!!!

Not bashing here but this post I think is for Psp likers.

I like my DS alot and if you call it overated then you didn't play a game that interests you enough. If you can find a game that does so maybe you'll change your opinion. If you don't then I guess you're from somewhere else I never heard of. (Not bashing please!) I'm just saying that you're different hey it's good to be diffrent.

Actually yea i was, the first game system my family owned was the NES but that was in 94' lol, i had played a lot of great games on the SNES my favourite snes game of all time was Super Mario World. But the N64 was the first game system that was solely mine and i have had many great memories playing it, that's why it was my favourite. :)

A better word for "cheap" would be "affordable".  I don't have a lot of money to throw at a new gaming system... which still requires even more money for games and the special add-on (like the different remotes for the Wii that seem to multiply monthly).  I thought the DS was a great way to get back into gaming after having been away from the PS1 I played years ago.  Granted, the graphics and length of game play don't match the other non-portable platforms... but I didn't expect that.
I do think the console is able to perform better than many games seem willing/able to utilize (because they are rushed, recycled from GBA, or the programmers are just shoveling games out).  I hope that new "WOW" games will continue to raise the bar on what can be expected as the capabilities of the DS.

I can't stand Turbo-birdo's love to throw his opinions on everyone else.

I hope you're hearing this Turbo! the PSP got a worse rating in the gameformer magazine compared to the DS.

I'm not bashing anyone at some times I think it is and at others times it isn't I just have it to play my favorite type of games and to pass the time.

Where are you seeing a lineup?  (All I can find is the "new releases by week of..." and hitting "next week" over and over again... is there an easier way?  And you're right... it looks pretty depressing so far!).
