The Nintendo Wii really is a versatile piece of hardware.
I mean, when it comes to controllers, there are pretty much four different types.

I guess I have no choice but implement them all!

Wii Remote (turned on its side), Wii Remote + Nunchuk, ****c Controller, GameCube Controller

There's no need to be confused about what does what-just choose the play ****you prefer!

I suppose I would recommend the Nintendo GameCube controller, though. I like the feel of that powerful rumble.

Still, try out the other controls-they definitely give you a fresh experience.

Hmm? How do you do smashes and dashes with just the Wii Remote?
If I get the chance to tell you, I will.

Edit from Jordan: I made this the "official" poll thread. I hope you don't mind my editing the title a little bit.

I'll probably try them all out, but eventually revert to the gamecube controller.

It feels like home.

I'll try every controls for sure. My choice would be my GameCube controller not for only your reason but because there's no huge transition between Melee and Brawl. So we can train ourselves on Melee to be better for online brawl.

Not that I care for Smash as you probably know but this is a good move for future Wii games, everything must use the Wiimote.

Your opinion won't prove that somebody else can't like other control schemes... :|

But let's not start it all over again, let's rejoice, because Sakurai thought about us all!

Indeed. I was getting tired of the countless threads about "OMGZ I"M GONNA BE SO PISSED OFF IF TEHY DON"T USE THE GAEMCUBE CONTROLER!" or "THEY BETTRE N0T USE THE GAMECUBE CONTROLLER!"

They gave us all the options, and I'm glad for it. (Though it does make me wonder about which one performs best. As much as I love motion controls for things, I'm not so sure that shaking the wiimote/nunchuck could ever be as fast as pressing a button... )

He's trying to advocate that both the Wiimote and Wiimote and Nunchuk setups will be almost unusable in a sense and obsolete when compared to the GameCube controller or Classic Controller setups.

At any rate, now we won't be arguing over which control scheme it uses, we'll be arguing over which is the 'best'.

Which is going to be even more pointless, seeing as 'best' is the construct of the individual mind, an opinion.  There is no such thing as 'best' when it comes to  a large number of people.

I'm glad that everyone's control ideas will be in there, thus making everyone happy.  I just wish people didn't have to start attacking other people's preference, but that's likely the next step.

Me?  I'm going to try them all, starting with the wiimote, and ending with my wavebird, stopping to plug in the nunchuk and the classic pad along the way.

I'll try to keep them from trying to rip into me, thank you.

It's funny how you can say SSBB will rock and everyone's like "yeah!", yet when I say the W&N controls will be clunky it's all "OMG U HAVNT PLAYD IT YET SO UR PRIDICTION SUXX!".

Well this is definitely good news. With the added ability to be able to use the wiimote that might help some of the non-gamers get into this game. I agree with you all that there should be an online or wifi mode, but I'm not holding my breath yet. if it happens it happens.

My only question is we can use the wiimote on it's side as well as the wiimote with the nunchuk attached. I wonder how they intend to do it up so that there would be a good reason to use the nunchuk, because I mean if we can play without the nunchuk.

I cite XBox Live as an example of why in-game communication is an awful idea.  The number of racist, sexist, hateful and/or obnoxious things I've had to put up with makes me wonder where the attraction is to online play.  Tis why if I feel like playing online, I turn off voice communication.

I love how Nintendo caters its fans.  Half of the fans wanted to use the GC controller because they were use to it and thought the Wiimote would be awkward, while another half wanted to try something new and wanted to use the Wiimote and than a small portion suggested the classic control. So they made everybody happy :) .

Well, the obvious advantage of W+N is the control stick. However, the Wiimote only scheme will probably feel the most "simple" and maybe intuitive with its oldschool NES feeling yet fresh thanks to expected motion controls, mainly for someone who never played SSB. I, for one, will surely switch between those schemes regularly.

Here, I've done the brainwork for you:

How would we be able to walk around and jump while holding shooting items and still be able to aim? It even explicitly states under the update announcing the item Cracker Launcher that you would use the control stick to aim it.

this is actually amazing how they incorporated all of them, mostly fro how it shuts up everyone.

EDIT: i remember a cuople of months ago how i made a suggestion thread for brawl and i said it MUST use the wii controls, the reasons i stated then were that nintendo has just made a new controller that was innovative and intuitive, and it wouldnt really show nintendos confidence in their new way to play if they didnt use it for SSBB, sequel to the gc best-seller.... im glad they did use it, and hopefully its features, though im still gonna probably play with my trusty gc controller which is already used to tens of hours on ssbm

You walk around and jump with the D-Pad and shoot with the 2 button. Pretty obvious. As for the cracker, you can walk and jump while holding it, and the aiming can be done in several ways: by using some motion functionality (tilting the Wiimote, for example) or maybe you hold the fire button, aim with D-Pad/Control stick, and it only fires once you release the button, we can't know for sure how it's done even with the mentioned control stick.

But there's obviously a way, you can't doubt it now that the Wiimote alone is supported.

Finally everyone can stop bickering over the subject and start saying many good things about this news.

I know my friends and I are gonna be having ALOT of fun playing Brawl when we have some parties and play it all day. Now we're going to be coming up with manydifferent modes of our own to battle to with different controls.

I think that it would be pretty sick if in multi-player all four people could play with a differt control schemes...but I'm worried that one conntrol scheme will have an advantage over another, guess we will have to wait.

Since there isn't a poll in the stickied SSBB thread about control style, I hereby christen this thread the official poll thread for SSBB control issues, as long as it needs to be. Any other topics will be locked on site. So please don't report this thread for that reason. But you can report other ones. Thanks!

but your poll shows that most people will prefer the wii-mote+ nunchuck
