I as well as others have noticed that some Wii games do not support the feature of saving to removable storage. It's bothersome for people who like to bring saves back and forth and downright awful if your system needs to be replaced.

I thought it would be best to make a thread that lists all the games that do NOT allow you to save to the SD card.

I need help though. I don't own every game so I don't know firsthand the entire list. So please if you have any games to add to this list please post them in the thread and then they'll be added. I'll update this thread whenever someone posts a new game or messages me.

The list so far......

Super Smash Bros Brawl (NO game data can be saved to an SD card, you can however save pictures you take to an SD card)

MLB Power Pros

Guitar Hero

Metal Slug Anthology

Elebits (still waiting on Eledees)

Trauma Center:New Blood

Geometry Wars Galaxies

Nights:Journey into Dreams

***Special thanks to SirSpudly and Sancroff for all the help***

Nights:Journey into Dreams

and thank YOU Jaysonguy, i now realize that thanks to these games, i have a total of 276 blocks of save data on my Wii that i cannot move. That's just barely under the file sizes of Zelda:OOT and Sin and Punishment (286 and 287 respectively)

Somehow i still have 720 blocks left, i need to start getting thrifty.

i just hope that this save file trend ends. if it doesnt, then we might actually have to end up needing a harddrive.

it seems the online aspect is what makes files unable to be transferred...has anyone ever seen an online wii game with save data that can be moved?

Battilion Wars 2 I know for sure. In the end though, it wouldn't matter if the game had an online component, it tells you when you copy onto a SD that the online component will no longer exist. Not sure if that would change friend codes though, as I don't actually own BWII.

Plus I'm almost positive I have Strikers data on my SD card as well (I'd check but my Wii needed "space")

hey i've got a question concerning that. i dont have an SD card (but plan to soon) but how long does it take on average to transfer a file from the Wii to the card? (and vice versa) i hear all this complaining about how long it takes and how annoying it is but is it really THAT time consuming (i'm thinking like a minute to transfer) or are people overexaggerating/impatient?

Maybe 10 seconds?

I'm not a patient person and it doesn't bother me. They could be talking about the entire process but I have 2gig Kingston card that isn't one of those new generation "fast" cards and 10 seconds is the most I've spent on any game backing up. I back up all my games that I can about once a month.

I hope Nintendo does not keep doing this... If their so called "plan" of conserving space by erasing VC games and moving this to SD isn't being put into action, we'll need a different method for storage - as someone stated above.

They save it on an SD card and use a converter to convert it to standard image files.

It's not Nintendo (except for Smash Bros)

Last gen devs started not making XBOX games able to save to removable storage and that trend has followed the consoles into this gen.

But I thought Brawl didn't work with SD cards?

You can't save any game data, you can however save pictures you take in the game, I'm going to edit the first post right now. Thank you for the help.

the theory that i think that i found out is.......... No online games can be copied 100%. Everytime i tried an online game it would say some of the data could not be copied. (except medal of honour)

So i have

mario strikers

Battalion wars

Dragon ball z

Guitar hero

Etc.

All of my offline games work.... LOZ, SMG, RE4 ETC.

Keep'em coming

Just for the heck of it I tried the new version of Guitar Hero and still no luck there (yeah it was a long shot but as Michael Jordan said, you miss all the shots you don't take"

it depends on the media your copying. i've never had a long wait time to transfer save files for games. but VC games are a different matter. Depending on the size, it can take up to 2 mins. I've only experienced that with n64 games though. And i know because i timed it. but i dont' know everything about all the factors so some cards may be faster than others i guess. maybe this is what the the people have been whinning about? that or maybe some game saves have media in them that take longer to copy? who knows?

wait... I did not know so many games had this happening (I just own 2 of those.. but..) I will have to agree ICARUS, I mean I rarely, if ever, delete save data (reason why I own like 3 GC memory, 2 big memory PS2 cards) what are we suppose to do.... which bring me to my question: does save data take a lot of space?? I just have played like 6 of my Wii game collection... Would the wii fill rapidily with save data???

:? just wondering

I guess that if it does, I will just start removing VC games...

Save data is pretty tiny for most games, though you do come across a game every now and then that's a doozie

Oh and Jay I thought I had posted this on my preview post :? ... Thx for the thread, list; pretty nice...

I have a theory as to why Smash Bros. won't save onto the SD card: the fact that the online is "conjoined" to the offline portion of the game. Mario Strikers Charged has an online component and a single-player component. The save data for your unlocked characters/trophies and completed striker missions will copy onto your SD card while your online data (for your Mii) won't copy.

With SSBB, your online record is put onto a record board that includes offline matches as well. This may be the main reason that SSBB can't be copied.

I hope you understood what I just said...

I think the reason Smash Bros doesn't save is because there's so much unlockable content that Nintendo wants you to unlock or just not get it. That's why there's a total of 5 hammers in the game. If they wanted players to unlock everything without completing all the challenges there would have been more hammers available to players.

That could be it, too. I find it incredibly annoying that you can't use the hammers on some of the hardest challenges (ie "Beat Boss Battles on Intense").

The following VC games don't copy to an SD card:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Punch Out

Street Fighter 2 Turbo Hyper Fighting

Streets of Rage 2

Super Mario Bros. 1-3

Out of the 15 VC games I have, these wouldn't copy.

Hmm that's strange. Well some of the games I copied also said that some of the file wasn't stored and I should check the games instruction manual. I don't know what that means.

I added Mario Kart to the list (oddly enough the game doesn't save to an SD card but the channel does)

I'm debating making a section on Virtual Console games and WiiWare, we'll see how it goes.

It's because of that whole "soft save" feature or whatever they call it. You know, the ones that save when you turn the game off? Most of the file is transferred, but that save isn't.

Also, Splinter Cell: Double Agent cannot be transferred.

So if I put countless hours into SSBB and my Wii breaks, it's gone forever? Nice, Nintendo...

What the hell is the point of even having the SD card slot?

Dr. Mario RX. Online and Mario Kart Wii can't have their SAVE files transferred, but their channels can be transferred just fine. Same with Internet Channel.

Brawl doesnt work with SD cards, thats a scary thought. What if someone has everything unlocked and their freind or rival or whatever erased their memory. Theyed have to do everything over. That would suck.

take your Wii, only way to play if you unlocked all the charcaters but IMO the characters are easy to unlock

Has anyone noticed that games with wi-fi (except for Mario Strickers Charged) cant be saved on the SD card?

Then I have no idea. Out of the wi-fi games I have only Charged can be saved on the SD card so I thought it would be that, but I guess not.

Mabye so you cant copy it on somebody elses Wii to help them with the game.
