As some of you know I went to the doc and he said I gained 12 pounds

That's means Jason is the big fat fatty fatty fat fat.......fat....more fat...fatty fat fat fatty

Truth be told I got my cardio from Wii Fit mostly and just lifted at the gym and because I've been playing Wii Fit since the morning of it's launch it's gotten a tad boring to the point where I was neglecting it HUGELY, like Jason the fatty fatty fat fat hugely

So I decided to grab EA Sports Active to get my cardio back and HOLY BANANAS!

EA Sports Active really gives you a workout. Wii Fit got you moving and depending how rigorous you played it you could get a lather going but EA Sports Active foams right from the start

This game will kick your *#%

You open the box and the game comes out and says "where do you keep your *&$?" and you show it your *&$ and then the game proceeds to KICK YOUR FREAKING *&$ and then just looks at you.

If you've only played Wii Fit then you deserve to play EA Sports Active

Anyone else experience the *&$ kicking power of this game?

Apparently it gives you a good workout but does it make exercising more fun than Wii Fit?

It gives you exercising fun if that makes sense. Like when you run you HAVE to get those thighs up to 90 degrees so it's pushing you to do it right.

I grabbed some resistance bands from Amazon, they come in a multitude of sizes. I'm ordering the medium, I have the heavy, and I'm getting the super heavy. The band that comes with EA Sports Active is wimpy.

There's mini games that I'm sure will be fun to play when I unlock them all but so far it's very fun and very *&# kicking.

I enjoy it and will be glad making this part of my weekly routine.

I recently tried EA active, and pulled a ham-string.

Damn you EA! Damn you!

For once in my life, I agree with you. Active will give you a tough workout, and even though it's not the most fun I've ever had, they do keep things interesting and give you quite a bit of variety so you don't get board. They could have made it a little more video game-ish, but I don't think it would have sold as well if it were.

Thats really not the point of it though.. i would hardly even call it a game.

It is a workout program more than anything and it is surprisingly effective.

I'm glad EA Sports Active is up to your liking, Jason. I would gladly welcome any type of fitness game into my home, but I don't have the money to buy that and all the other games I want. Also, I'm in fine shape right now, so it's not like there's fat on my body I really need to get off or something. I used to play Wii Fit after school for an hour every day, but never got a feeling of getting tired, at least from the aerobics. I could do a 30-min. run, but still be fine after 30 seconds of rest. So, Jason, would you rather recommend EA Sports Active than Wii Fit, or do you think they're equal, or what?

If you REALLY want a good workout, look up P90x. I've been thinking of checking out EA Active, though. How is it in the way of tracking activity? Is it "gamey" at all, or just straight up exercises?

its not really "gamey".. but there is a journal that tracks your activity, and there is a 30 day challenge mode that gives you different routines to do every day for 30 days that kind of helps keep you on track

I know how you feel!

I got this game, mostly because I hadn't worked out for a while and just didn't have the time to find some place new to go, nor did I want to mess with finding a new place for a while (moving from Ohio to Florida I find that everything that used to be within a mile is now within 10 miles, if I'm lucky, and usually much further, which has really resulted in cutting my time down)

I didn't get too out of shape, but the only real exercise I had since just prior to moving was unloading the truck, so really not a good workout and definitely not a regular routine. So, I decided to pick up EA Sports Active (I don't have Wii Fit yet, planning to get it, but now may wait for the second one to come out to see which is better) It hadn't even been that long since I had been on a good run or had a good workout, but I would still say I was a little out of shape (no exercise routine combined with tons of great food options doesn't mix well)

I put the game in the first time and was really excited to get started. Other than feeling as if I may croak at the end of my first session, it felt pretty good. The run was definitely what did me in, I put in all my info and said I wanted to start at a beginners level or whatever, but it still had me do a ton of laps and I wasn't feeling real good by the time I was done (I have a lot of lung issues and running can cause me a lot of problems, back home I wasn't even able to run outside in the winter because of it, so I had conditioned for a while so it wouldn't affect me as bad, not running for a while basically meant I had to start over)

So at the end of my first exercise I was feeling pretty good. I liked the overall feel of the game and felt I got a good exercise, other than the running, everything else seemed right on target and I actually had some fun. So I turned my Wii off and called it a night, excited to see what was in store the next day. Next morning I wake up and my entire body was so sore I could barely move, even breathing hurt, places hurt on my body where I've never felt pain before. I've had a lot of injuries in my years, mostly when I was younger and mostly minor, but a few more serious ones and a lot that caused me some pretty serious pain, but I don't ever recall being in pain like that before. When I woke up, I was literally considering just going back to sleep and staying there until the soreness was gone. Getting out of the bed was probably the worst part because I was still sleeping on an air matress at the time because my bedroom furniture had not arrived, so I was only about 2 feet off the ground, rolling out of bed was pretty much the only option and it really didn't feel well.

Starting my exercises the next day was definitely something I didn't want to do, but I wanted to be dedicated so I proceeded and struggled through the entire workout, probably near the top of my list for the worst 20 minutes of my life! Even though it wasn't fun going through the soreness, at least it did give me confidence that the game was giving me a full workout!

Unfortunately, after finishing my 30 day workout I haven't played the game since. I plan to start it up again, but I need to get things more back to normal and get back to eating healthier as well :-( Plus, I really haven't found a doctor yet and since I'm alone it probably isn't the best idea to work out like that until I can work back into it a little more.

if it has highscores, its gotta make it more fun. the competitive edge of a video game and that mannly feeling that you are so buff that you dominate everyone in fitness and endurance. but i dont even know if they have highscores. ill have to find out later.

Let's answer a few questions

1. No you do not need the balance board to play the games. They offer a few more choices when it comes to the activities but they can all work with just the Wiimote and Chuk.

2. EA Sports Active beats the pants out of Wii Fit. Wii Fit is more like "Hey my body moves all different kinds of ways" while EA Sports Active is like "Oh my body HURTS in all different kinds of ways!". If you're playing Wii Fit and you're like "I don't feel the immediate need to prepare my will" then go play EA Sports Active.

3. It does a good job of tracking your progress. You make your own profile and you set certain goals and then you earn trophies for certain thing in the game. Run a certain number of laps on the track and you'll earn a trophy. Burn the desired number of calories and you'll earn a trophy, etc

I've been doing it for a week now and I love it. It only works if you use it though. I'm used to dedicating part of my day to exercise so it's no big deal to me to integrate 20-30 mins in my day. The game does feel "Gamey" like when you're on the track and someone runs past you faster and you're like "oh no you did not!" and then you pick up the pace.

Again I STRONGLY (yes I meant the pun and the giggles happened) to grab another band because the one that they include is past weak, the wind resistance from moving your arms applies more force then this band that's included.

I grabbed that SPRI one on the 4th post of the thread.

I still don't know if I'm going to pick up lighter and heavier ones. The exercises are very fast paced from one thing to another so I think I may just stay with heavy for now. I don't think I would ever go lighter after using it for a week and if I were to go heavier well I have the gym for lifting so I don't know if I'll ever use them.

The only thing I do suggest is that when you put the band on your leg you either put it on the skin under your shorts or you get some compression shorts (spandex style) and wear it. If you put it on over regular shorts it'll slip.

nope it is not more difficult and taxing than P90X that... that would be insane. But it does take a similar approach in that it changes things up from day to day on the 30 day programs so you get a really good overall workout

Well I'm done with the 30 day challenge and of course I passed

I lost 15.5 pounds and gained some definition to my arms and legs

Some of the exercises are ladystyle. They work a lot on lower stomach and shoulder and arms which makes sense.

Otherwise it's excellent

Is it more difficultand taxingthan say, the P90X program, if you're familiar with that?

_BlueDuck_

I guess that's up to how much you're going to make the game challenge you

It does work the same way though, it hits a body part and keeps on hitting it from all areas. Instead of just doing one exercise over and over it'll make you run a few laps then go right into squats then go into jumping squats then go right into reverse lunges with knee ups then right into squat holds.

I'd say this is one of the best games if you're an active person just because you need to work yourself to get a high score and unlock all the trophies

TOTALLY get another resistance band though, oh and I found a good trick is to run the resistance band under the Balance Board and that holds it perfectly instead of standing on it with your feet.

The game has so many different workouts and so many levels and even allows you to make your own routines that this will hold me over until EA Sports Fitness 2 comes out

Jaysonguy
just a heads up you can "layer" the resistance bands and use multiple bands to add even more resistance for those times when your "super heavy" is in sufficient. I have an extensive routine I do with bands. I don't have ea active and my dr. sent me to physical therapy around the time I got wii fit so my console never made the transition to exercise device. I have scoliosis and therefore do specific exercises to strengthen my back. because of this a lot of my exercises are only in one direction and the canned workouts don't work so well for me. I thought there was supposed to be a more intensive yoga "game" coming out for wii fit. I wonder when we will see this. In the mean time I can't wait for shaun white world tour!! I still pop road trip into my wii from time to time.

But do I want that? I'm pretty out-of-shape (but not fat, nor skinny; just weak), and I don't really want that in the first place. In fact, I don't want that much of a workout at all; I just wanted the balance board....
