I have a few questions, I bought it today but I haven't played it yet.

A. Is it open-ended? Do you get to explore a fairly open world with dungeons/etc?

B. how is the combat? Turn based like FFXI online?

C. Do you level up, etc?

D. How long is it, and are there lots of side quests and miscellaneous activities?

It's actually a pretty straight forward game.  You level up the same way you always do in an FF game and its turn based combat just like in the origional FF on the Nintendo.  It also brings back job classes like in FFX-2 only better.  As far as open ended or "sand box" style game play, don't count on it.  This game is about as linear as an RPG comes but I still have a lot of fun playing it.

A)WHat do you mean by that? But the game will give you a map and you will be explore anywhere you want. Unless ur underlvl for some area. When you advance into more story , more place will be able to let you explore.

B)Turn Base..Never play FFXI Online before but it is basically like every FF before FFX

C)Yea we do lvl up as we kill monster

D)That I cannot give you any information as I never completed it yet (Busy at pokemon)

My question is why did you buy the game if you didn't know anything about it?

A) It's about as open ended as FF7 - most of the time you're following a set path but there's a few things to wander off and find.

B) Combat is in the FF 1-3 style, you take turns to fight but there's no 'time bars' - you attack in order of speed rating.

C) Of course. That's the best bit, the awesome jobs+levelling system.

D) I'd say about 30-40 hours for a FF noob to reach the 'basic' ending. It'll take 70+ to beat the bonus boss, but there's little incentive to do so.

I finished off the final boss at around the 42 hour mark and still managed to put another 10 hours on it afterwards, playing with different jobs and looking around to see if I missed anything (I did it without FAQs/walkthroughs). For me it was an easy game, I then went on to play the FF games available for the GBA and those were harder, I did need to consult walkthroughs a few times to check on my next step. FF III is certainly worth the money though, works out to less than a $1 per hour of entertainment.

I thought the the stories were much better in the GBA FF games (loved the unlocked stuff after the final boss in FF IV) but I still recommend FF III.
