Today I was planning a Wii, I had the money and everything. So I go to my local video game retailer called "GameCHAMP", which had a big sign saying "Wii in stock!". So i'm saying to myself, "Yes! Awesome! I'm finally getting one!". I go in and there and there were two left. So I ask for it and the guy at the counter tells me it's 350 dollars, plus tax! WTF!?! I told him straight up, "Dude, it's 250. Where are you getting 340 from?". So he tells me there's such a high demand for the Wii, he has no choice but to increase the price. I even told him that nobody in the right mind would buy it at that price, but he didn't wanna hear it. I marched out of the store with a pissed off face thinking, who is he to do that? That's not right at all. Un-freaking-believable...

This is totally illegal.  Prices are set by the console manufacturers and NEVER by individual retailers.  He could probably get sued for this crap.  Stick it to the man!

Sorry to hear that.  I hate it when stores take advantage of people like that and with such a lame excuse, "we have no choice."  Of course he has a choice.  However, he could try and sell it for $5000, it is his perogative as a private business owner.  Better luck next time.

Sorry to hear of your difficulties. There is a reason that it is called MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) All Nintendo can do is to stop selling to them wholesale.

Thats odd, I can get a Wii from anywhere, we have tons of them, but I live in California so I don't know if that makes a difference or not as far as where you live.. My point however is that you should have no problem getting a Wii, I don't see why they are rare items now I don't think you looked hard enough and that guy at the store sounds quite misinformed in my opinion.

I live in New York. Brooklyn, New York. Where there's a gamestop, Circuit City, GameCHAMP, and KB Toys just a block or two from each other. None of which have them except for GameCHAMP, which was charging 340 for the Wii. There's also a Toys R Us and a Best Buy just 2 miles away from those stores. And yet, I still can't find a Wii. My only choice now is the Nintendo World Store in Manhattan, which is 5 miles away from me. I have many places to go and check, but since there's 8 million people in NYC, I can see why it sells like Hotcakes.

Only 5 miles? IO have a 30 minute car trip to the nearest actual game store instead of a Wal-mart. You have 2 stores that could be walked to in less time than I could drive to the neares place.

I'm sure it entirely depends upon the agreement he signed with Nintendo. If he's going against that, it wouldn't be illegal but could get him banned from selling any of their products.

Its called inflation.  But yeah, it does seem kind of like a rip-off.  Sort of.  Either pay $340 and get it now, pay more than $450 online, or just wait longer and visit another store to get for $250.

It may be expensive, but if you have the money.  You might as well buy it.  Besides, you can always sell on E-Bay and possibly get all your money back and more.

Call your attorney general   You're only allowed to raise prices that much, stores have to follow certain state laws. Just because it says MSRP many stores try to screw you over

Dude, i live in Long Island, and my sister and i took a bus to queens, then hopped on a train to go to the Nintendo World Store. We woke up at 5 and left out 5.30. We reached the store at 6.30, and even though there was a line, we still got the wii. Trust me its well worth it, especially since you live relatively close, unlike me who lives 20 miles away. It's worth it, trust me.

What a rip-off. In Canada, if you go on Future Shop or Best Buy, the Wii had been raisen in price but it's only from 280$ to 290$. Both stores did the same with the PS3 but it's from 659$ to 700$.

You need to take an economics class, right away. You think inflation is going from $250 to $340 dollars in a few months? ROFLMAO!

Ha ha ha, msrp, huh? I figure if you're going to throw that acronym around, you are at least entitled to learn what it stands for after you use it: manufacturer's suggested retail price. Here's a hint kid, stay away from law school.

haha, yes you do need an econ class. inflation is the average price increase in a product. one store charging a higher price isnt inflation. but ya that sucks, everywhere down where i'm at its still 250 unless i go on ebay. the search for me and i guess you still continues

They just recommend a price... but if a retailer charges extra for an item that is available in other places for cheaper, nobody will buy it from them. This isn't the case with the Wii though.

No its not, MSRP means Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. They can sell it for whatever they want.
