can u play online mode on ds? if u can what cords and stuff do i need and how can i tell if a game can be played online

It depends on the game. Any DS game with a blue NWFC circle on the game cover has some type of online. You don't need any type of chords, just a good wi-fi connection(go on nintendo's website for recommendations) OR the USB.

The DS has built-in WiFi. Barring that, this is not the place to teach you the ins and outs of setting up and using wifi if you do not know.
