I think I might have messed-up the order of the things I was supposed to do in the temple.

I'll tell you where I'm at right now. I just raised the water to the highest level (in the main room), there's a locked door, and I have no key. I have not been able to progress from there.

I was watching a video walkthrough on youtube, and by the time the guy had made it here, he had 2 (maybe 3) keys.

And the walkthrough proved that I had indeed missed some keys (based on the treasure chests my compass showed).

I believe I miss the one beyond the room where you first see ruto, and the one in the basement of the tower. Which I cannot enter either, because The water is high to where I cannot use fire to open the doors.

I believe my misstep was when (early on) I had a key, and instead of holding on to it (like the walkthrough showed), I used it right away on the door to the tower (first floor), and right after, raised the water (so I couldn't open the door to one key). And, because I raised it to it's highest point, I couldn't get back in the tower to get the other key.

Now in the walkthrough, he said it was the "fastest" way to beat the temple. So I believe that if the game let me get this far, the unorthodox way, there is still a way to beat the temple.

Any help would be appreciated. Worst case scenario I have a second file that's on the forest temple.

P.S This may or may not be the right board. But I wanted an active board that could help me out (plus I got OOT on VC, so technically, Wii game ^_^).

In the center pillar where you can raise the water level for the first time, you should see two rows of spikes and be able to walk on the middle part. After you raise the water level you should notice a platform raise up with the water. Put on the Iron Boots and drop down onto the middle part and walk back toward where the platform was before it raised up and you'll see you a hole in the floor. You can drop down into the hole. There will be a few enemies that drop out of a part of the ceiling, just use the Hook Shot on them, and on the other side of the room you should be to swim up and there'll be a chest with a key in it.

I don't know if that helps but the first time I played through Ocarina of Time I got stuck on that part. I'm sure a lot of other people did too, it's pretty well hidden. The Water Temple is definitly the hardest Temple in Ocarina of Time.

I think J_Ford nailed it. It's been awhile since I played and beat that temple but once I found that hidden key he spoke of I finally got through the temple. Both times I beat it I believe that key was what stumped me.

Hardest temple in any Zelda game ever.

Best Zelda game ever.

It's hard, but it's not cheap or anything. It just takes a lot of thinking, exploring, and trial and error. What's wrong with that? Do you just hate it because it's hard?

It has been a very long time since I played OoT, but I remember the water temple being the hardest. It takes alot of trial and error to make it though. I wouldnt start back over at the forest temple, just try exploring everything very carefully. You can finish the temple, its not like nintendo made it so that it is impossible at the point you are at w/o any keys. You just have to go and find the keys. They are there, it just takes work.

You know you can lower the water level again right? Just go back to where you saw Ruto for the first time and go up. The water temple is difficult. When I first played OoT all the way back in 1998 it was the only one that I had to get help from a guide on, and after I found out what I had missed, I felt like an idiot. Getting through the Water temple is like a right of passage though. So, Good Luck!

To this day. The Water Temple has made me nearly go insane because of missing ONE KEY! and when I find that key I have to find ANOTHER KEY!

The Water Temple in Ocarina of Time is the and I mean THE HARDEST DUNGEON IN ZELDA OF ALL TIME!

Now and days when I play a Zelda game I think "What would Link do with this Key?" and usually I think Link would use the Key on the first door he sees so you are playing the game correctly.

and if you put the Water to it's highest then go to the very bottom of the temple (via Iron Boots and Blue Tunic) there should be openings off the wazoo for you to find Ruto.

It is hard to get lost and mixed up with the level but once you get the Longshot its not so complicated.

ahhh the water temple, I dont think any dungeon in all of the zelda series has developed such a level of infamy as this particular one, it took me a week of 2 hour sessions to feel my way around that thing!!!

I didn't have to much of a hard time either. Although, I'm pretty sure it took me more than 47 minuets.

It's not as long and as difficult as so many people make it out to be. I think I also have completed the water temple at around 50 minutes including boss (last time I played OoT I did a 3 hearts run).

I actually found the Master Quest version of that Temple way easier than the original.

Yeah but that item is pretty late in the temple. The hardest stuff is before finding the longshot.

Yep, thats the one i always miss.

I remember replaying it once, and I forgot the first key as soon as you enter the forest temple, the one up the tree. because that section always feels like "outside" to me. Took me sooooo long to remember. And this was after like 3 play throughs. God i kicked myself :P

Haha! I did the EXACT same thing. But it was on my first time through. I'm avoiding it right now because I'm just where the Water Temple starts...I'll get back to it eventually...maybe... :P

I only had a problem the first time I played OoT. Everyother time after I played it would only take me 30-45 minutes to complete the temple and beat the boss.

The Water Temple on Master Quest was even easier then the original Water Temple.

The Water Temple was definitely the hardest for me because it was tedious, and very easy to miss that small key in the middle pillar. Plus I didn't know you got another hookshot in the game, so I kept trying to reach those longshot only targets, thinking I must've been doing something wrong. I remember exactly when I finally found that small key in the middle pillar. I had backtracked through that temple for like 3 days straight then finally I notice that platform float up, and I yelled no way. I could not believe I had missed it so many times.

They made every other dungeon/Temple harder then the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time but they made the Water Temple easier for some reason.

Nah. You get to skip part of both the fire temple and the water temple in Master Quest. They shortened/dumbed those ones down a lot. Overall, the MQ was disapointing, I thought. What was up with the cows in JabuJabu?!?!
