Has anyone bought the new DSi?

What are your impressions and opinions about it? Is it worth the upgrade?

Picked up the DSI this morning. I am completely new to DS, got one because I wanted to play Chinatown Wars, and figured I would get the latest iteration of the system. I could really care less about the camera stuff and music editing features, althought I tried out the camera real quick and seemed kind of nifty. I like the mechanics of the web browser and it works ok, but not great-not as good as the browser on my Ipod Touch-but I dont think significantly worse. I used Opera for a while on my PC. On the second website I went to I got a message that the system was out of memory and erase my previous page-never had that problem on the Ipod Touch.

The screen seems to be a nice size, and there are some free DSI ware games but they dont look that great to me have not tried them out.

The DSI is supposed to have a little better processor and more RAM I hear but I doubt this will make much of a difference, as developers are not going nto creae software out there that the kajillion people who have the lite cant play or anything.

Its also very easy to exit out of a game and get back to the main menu-which I guess was not possible to do on the lite.

One very slight cosemetic issue-the left hinge of the top screen is just a bit looser than the right-not a major issue but something I noticed.

I have not owned a lite, and as someone who always wants to have the latest technology, I would say no need to upgrade right now, unless the camera stuff and other features really appeal to you. Barring a really robust set of offerings in the DSI ware store, or some really good DSI based software in general, I would not see the need to upgrade at this time if I had prevously owned the lite.

In my opinion you should just wait a bit. Wait for a price drop for it and see if something interesting comes to the dsi for you that warrants a purchase. if you dont have a ds then this certinally would be an ideal purchase though. Me personally I will just continue to play my ds games till something interest me or a price drop.

My friend and I both somehow got to GameSTop at the same time today. She was there to pick up her DSi, I was there to buy games for mine, which is on it's way from amazon.

It's cool. Clever, fresh, sleek, whatever. I want mine now.

well i cant judge the net stuff since i dont have it online yet but i do really enjoy the camera and to fool around with it i do think it can be implemented in games as a gimmick and will be fun (im picturing nintendo will use that for minigames and stuff in games, basically making them hybrid games, lites will still have full game but miss out on small extras) the screen is well bigger...which is good but its not a huge difference like from fat old ds to lite where it was a huge graphic improvement on the screen, its just bigger the color coating is much nicer (i have black both lite and dsi) since its not all shiny and collect fingerprints like the lite the stylus is longer the ds slot is great for moving ur pics to pc (all i used it for so far) i really cant see anything bad about it to be honest, unless u really wanna play gba games on it, then stick to the lite (i still kept my lite) but is it worth an update? for me yes, but for others i think it will really depend on how they will use the new dsi in future games (and money of course) im one of those people who thought the update from the fat ds to the lite was huge, i simply cant stand playing the old one and its bad screen graphics, but ofcourse i can still play the lite but yeah, this is a really nice console who just got better

there are some free DSI ware games but they dont look that great to me have not tried them out.

Hydrafiend

The only free thing out is the browser, which is not a game. There are 4 prices: Free, 200, 500, and 800 (Each $1 = 100 points).

However, up until October (I think it is), you get 1000 free points.

I probably not going to get it for a long time since my dad has low money and can't really afford to buy anything at all for a very long time.

Traded in my DSlite for the new DSi this morning. The camera I see simply as a gimick and the quality of pictures is low. The online browser had problems loading nintendos own website let alone anything else that is memory intensive you can just forget, they won't load. The new online web store is pretty cool and works, although there aren't many choices at this point in time to pick from. The bigger screen looks great and is a huge upgrade initself.

I have to admit I am disappointed in the browsers lack of ability to use my SD card for memory, a huge huge let down. If your looking to buy this to cruize the internet, look elsewhere as there are way better options via other devices.

I have to mention that you do have the ability to turn off all pictures for the web browswer, makes pages that wouldn't load or hang for long periods just load the text. Which for this lil handheld is just fine. It would not load gamespots website for me until i turned off the picture loading in the options. I have not tried the other sites that you mentioned but imagine they should work fine with the lower settings. This would not have been an issue had they programed it to utilize your own memory card for storage but that just isn't the case. I do give the new device a thumbs up overall and am having fun with it.

Okay, thanks for the info, but I probably not going get the DSi for a long time, sadly due to personnal problems with money.

very much worth it, screen is bigger and better, speakers sound alot better, playing EBA showed me that, thinner, looks much better, matte finish is amazing, plays music and photos off SDHC cards, camera editing software is amusing, aquia and warioware are good, more DSi ware games to come with DSi retail games should be good

web browser is faster than i thought

the blue is so nice

i don't miss anything about the DS lite at all, the DSi is what the DS should've been

the potential for motion controls with the camera is great, i hope its used well

being able to go back to the menu now is such a nice addition
