For those who don't know, Opoona is the awesome RPG coming out on the 25th (buy it!) and it only uses the nunchuck. Movement is controlled by the analog stick and the stick controls menu selections while the buttons of the 'chuck work as selections. Basically, does anyone else think these controls are extremely innovative? It takes the innovative Wii controls, and completely turns it on its head by featuring just the 'chuck. Imagina how much more comfortable it'll be to just move a thumb to control a whole game. Most developers would use the Wii Remote to control this game, using the whole forearm and wrist.

Am I the only one who think's Opoona's twist on innovation is brilliant?

It's definitly different. Innovative may a bit too much. I like. The simple gameplay matches the simple control setup. But I'm desapointed that it doesn't use any kind of motion control. Not even some little tilt or whatever. Wii is about that after all.

I don't know about the most innovative, but it sounds pretty cool if it works.

I wouldn't call them innovative. In fact I think using only the nunchuck is a bit strange, I mean why not just use the Wiimote instead?

Moving your forearm and wrist is more uncomfortable and tiring than just moving a thumb and 2 fingers.

Really? When I heard that the game uses the nunchuck only, I thought it could be kind of cool if it just used the nunchuck and its motion abilities, but all you get is a joystick and two buttons? I thought the controls to Opoona was innovative, till now.

Mmmm back to the simply times of a Joystick and two buttons.
I'd buy this, but I gotta pay off my Ninja Gaiden DS reserve and probably buy Brawl. :(

It would have been smarter to just use the Wii-mote, because you still have to hold the Wii-mote to use the nun-chuck.

Yeah. The IGN preview clearly stated that. That's just dumb.

its actually why i gave up on the game because it WASNT using innovative controls. All RPGs on the Wii should use the IR for most of its functions because it will pick up the pace on a generally very slow paced genre.

Also they are foolish. They are making agame that only a certain crowd likes but they are oversimplifying it.

Agree.

I don't know much about the game, but going from your description they sound like atari controls. That would be a retro design...and pretty much the opposite of innovation. Also, you'll have to hold on to the Wiimote the entire time for no reason at all. I'm not saying I dislike the idea, but it doesn't seem particularly special to me.

I'm pretty sure it's an attempt at simplification for new users, rather than innovation.

The controls are indeed different, but innovative might be pushing it.

How are the controls innovative. you cant play the nunchuck alone. it has to be connected to the wii remote. that means you would have to be holding an exta controller in your hand for no reason. and plus your're suppose to use the nunchuck with the left hand. only playing with the nunchuck would feel awkward for right handers.

I really don't see how Opoona is innovative. "Different" yeah, but not innovative. The nunchuk is basically set up like any other controller, except that you use motion controls to go through menus.

The game overall looks interesting though, and I am tracking it. I was put off by the kiddie feel to it at first, even though I try not to let a child-like theme disuade me from playing a game. Hopefully it will be cool; Nintendo Power gave it a 7/10 apparently.

I think there is an option to use the wii mote. of course it only like pressing the A button but you can also press the C button on the nunchuck, and camera is asigned to the D-pad. So you do use the wii mote just barely though, Im looking forward to this game its not high up on my list but its definitely on there.

I think it was a great choice... this thread just took this game from my "not going to get it" pile, to my "I want to see more about this game" pile

Yeah I'm in the same boat, I don't really have that much money to spend on a bunch of games this year, so I want lots of information before I blindly go out and purchase a game. So I too have this game in the "Need more Info on it pile,".

While the video isn't entirely about the controls, there's a good preview on Gametraliers.com on Opoona. Viewing it makes me want the game more, especially when he says it's a traditional RPG and makes a Dragon Quest VIII comparison.

It's just a gimmick to get people to notice the game and it is clearly working. If you need to attach the nunchuck to the wii-mote anyway, then why not add in a few pointer controls or put a few buttons on the wiimote to use.

If I was planning on seriously playing this game from start to finish this might be a reason to think about one of those wireless nunchucks
