Well, the gameboy set a major standard for the world of gaming in it's time, managing to out sell it's competitors, even though they had color palettes.
And the ds is doing pretty well, but has sold 83.44 million units while the gb has sold more.
I guess they're both just gems of their time, doing better than their more graphically powerful competitors.
i love the DS, but gameboy has all the good memories...
i like them to be tied, but the DS wins...
the game boy hacks so many batteries...
I can't help to say that this question will have biased answers.
I can give you an example, if you ask, which one had the biggest impact? Atari or Playstation?
The people born at the generation of 70s that had an Atari will be inclined (inclined, not 100%
of the people, but more than 50% will) to say that Atari had the biggest
impact, because it was probably one of the first consoles ever, giving them a different way to pass their time,
at that time, the Atari was simply amazing.
Now for the people of the generation of 90s, most of 'em probably won't ever care about an Atari, they will
say Playstation, because it took console gaming into the newer generation of 3D graphics (biggest example
are those FF7 players/fanboys).
The same applies for the DS and GB, for the late 80s and earlier 90s, people who had the GB
will be biased/inclined (not all of 'em will) to say GB, while the late 90s (1995 and up) will
be inclined to say DS and won't ever care about a GB.
And answering your question, i will say DS, even through i'm at the earlier 90s generation.
Why? Because DS took handheld gaming into its next step, touch screen, 2 screens, and at
least... decent graphics.... unfortunately the DS lacks the cllassic tone that the GB had.
I was thinking the same thing. There are so many people that have had the DS for a short time and it is their first handheld. They never experienced the original gameboy and haven't watched it evolve over time.I can't help to say that this question will have biased answers.

meiaman
DS wins for me because of one single difference... battery life... my god my old gameboy chugged through those like noones buisness.
The ds needs recharging, yeah, but one charge usualy lasts a good bit longer then the gb did + buying batteries for the old gameboy proved quite expencive in the long run.
I grew up in the GameBoy gen. but which is better?
The DS..by far is way better on just about everything it has to offer.
