For my opinion of overrated games, Phantom hourglass is still needlessly complicated due to the dumb phantom dungeon or whatever the heck it's called, and the sailing, though less annoying than in Wind Waker, still bogs the game down a bit. All in all a unique but redundant and repetitive game.
Ninja Gaiden in any form post NES era is overrated IMHO. I can't stand how Itagaki changed the focus of the game from fast paced action to tedious repetition. While I would definately say the touch screen controls are more fun than playing the Xbox versions of the new games, I still can't latch on to this new fighting-based gameplay formula. Call me old fashioned, but I much prefered the non-stop, tough-as-nails 2D platforming of the 8-bit era. If they ever brought back the original Ninja Gaiden formula, I might feel more compelled to enjoy the series, but this is not so.
I also would venture to say that Brain Age 2 was no where near as unique or inventive as the original. It felt like a step backwards in many respects, and I couldn't get into some of the newer challenges like the piano playing or bass-ackwards math games. The original was very fun, but the sequel, not so much.
New Super Mario Brothers seemed pretty overrated as well, not so much by the gameplay, but for the fact that it was TOO much like the OLD mario Brothers. There were no real new power-ups as original as those in SMB3, and like the original SMB, every world ended with a Bowser duel. I would've much prefered a Super Mario Brothers 4 over a fanciful remake of sorts. Some new gameplay elements and power-ups would've made the overall experience better if you ask me.
