I have Super Paper Mario for the Wii, but I am looking into downloading the original on VC and buying the GameCube one.
Can anyone tell me which is better? I am hoping that they are both more RPG's than SPM was.

I would get the one from N64, personally I liked it more. (The second one was a bit more boring)
And yes, the first 2 are RPGs, with Turn-based combats. I liked more the first one. But defenetly, none of them are better than Super Mario RPG (SNES).

Agree with you whole-heartedly on the SMRPG issues.
Gamecube was the best, N64 was quality also
Super Paper Mario wasn't supposed to be like the RPG Super Mario series. You can always tell who didn't research their games before they purchased them.

I didn't "research" the game. I basically just went out and bought it. I hadn't played either of the others because they didn't seem too interesting to me (since I was still pissed they never made an actual direct sequel to SMRPG). I thought SPM was ok... not the greatest. I got kinda bored with it but just played it through to the end. It would have been good had it been more RPG-ish I think.
I will probably download PM on vc in the morning.
SPM = PM2 >>>> PM
Although I liked PM2's battle system and sidequests the best, SPM's story, characters, and level design were great.
And PM... it was good, but the other two are just better.
