Hi,

When I play my Wii on my bigscreen Sony tv, verticle pixel-lines appear and are like, a rainbow color (the lines kinda sparkle).  It happens during games and internet use, etc.

What gives?

Thanks!

You might want to look into some component cables, or your cables right now are faulty.

A thread was posted about this a few days ago. Apparantly it has something to do with the Wii overheating and burning out the video card. I'm having the exact same problem. Black, white and sometimes red, green and blue pixels appear on the screen in lines and go across the screen in rows. It's worse for some games than others. The pixels even appear on the Wii menu but don't show up as bad. I called Nintendo this afternoon and got info on how to send it to them so hopefully it will get fixed. If I were you I'd do the same thing.

Here's a link someone posted who was also having this problem.

Sorry d00d but I think your going to have to send your Wii in for repairs.  Mine had the exact same problem, new cables didn't work, different tv didn't work.  The good news is Nintendos customer support is pretty good and you'll have your Wii back and working in no time.

I think this guy is right; if you go on IGN they have and interview with the VP of Panasonic and he talks about how DLP tv's have some type of Rainbow effect.

http://gear.ign.com/articles/682/682536p1.html IGN: Can you give us some kind of clarification on the issue of the "rainbow effect" with DLPs? Have you heard of this? Jeff Cove: Yes, its kind of interesting. Not everybody can see it. The way a standard DLP works is that you have a color-wheel with three colors on it, and the way you view it on the screen is that first there will be a red picture, then a green picture, then a blue picture. When people move their eyes from side to side, or from the left or the right of the television, you won't get all three of those pictures into your eyeball at the same time. Therefore, it is possible that you'll get some sort of after image, that is called the rainbow effect. The way I personally see it is a kind of vertical red line that may show up when you are watching a DLP television. It doesn't happen in all content, and again, not all people can see it. I think there is a study that says that only 10% of people can see it, or see it obviously. So that's the rainbow effect for DLP. There are ways to improve that also. Everything from speeding up the wheel, to adding more wheels, to changing the colors on the wheel. As with every technology, it's today's snapshot. They all get improved and they all get better. Is it legal for Sony to do that? If so, I wouldn't be surprised. Is APEX a branch of Sony though? Cause that's the kind of TV I have, and my Wii works perfectly.

I have the same problem. I'ma call Nintendo up tonight, but according to the rest of the people that have had the problem, your Wii overheated and damaged some hardware inside. I still have the warranty, so it should cover it. I suggest you call Nintendo up and see what you can get fixed and jank.

You need to do a few things. Try the wii and the current wires on another tv to see if it is the wii/cables. OR try new cables. OR if possible, see if a friend near you that has a wii can bring his over and test his on your tv...There are so many possibilties to what coudl be the problem. The best thing you can do now is try a new tv and see if it is maybe your tv also.

Ignore the "sony" comments: there is no compatibility issues between the Wii and Sony TVs. Not by any stretch of the imagination. It'd be stretching the boundaries of legality and it's a silly notion anyway.

I dont see how this can be the Wii's fault. Its most likely your TV.According to Nintendo , they tested the Wii morning , noon , and night and said nothing to big has happen to the wiis. They are built to stay on for so long to not worry about overheating. And besides, the wii doesnt get hot but warm.

Like I said before, this has nothing to do with your tv configuration (probably).  If you search the web there are a number of people having this problem and it is due to a faulty/overheated video card.  The only way to make this go away is sending it in and getting it fixed.  Don't bother wasting money on new cables.

Is your television a DLP set? This is called "rainbow effect" and some people notice it more than others. It's not limited to your Wii - trying watching movies, television, or playing another system. Unfortunately there is no remedy for your current set.

My Wii got the veritical pixels (rainbow colored) all over the place on it.  It didn't matter what TV or what cables I was using.  The video hardware on the Wii really is burning out.  I called Nintendo and they replaced my Wii promptly.
