They're all the same
By the time they learn all the moves they'll all be equal and by that time you'll have at least three sets of guys you can swap in for any situation
It's all about what animal you like the best
I like monkeys because monkeys are awesome.
Jaysonguy
Yup, Turtles and Penguins, suck!
i like piplup because is a water type pokemon so the first gym should be easy for you and also is half flying so it have flying type moves.
Because it is, it's the cutest thing ever.a lot of people say piplup is really cute, i mean a lot lol

i picked chimchar. being the semi-competitive person i am, i had to pick the one that was actually the best. other than that, i dont really like any of them that much. i pretty much cast my infernape aside once i moved my emerald team over.
Chimchar. I think getting a Water Pokémon as a starter is kind of pointless because the game has so many Water Pokemon to catch, when it comes to Fire/Grass types though there are just a few options, and since Grass has way too many weaknesses I usually go with Fire. :D
Ive stuck with the fire starter ever since Pokemon red to Pokemon Pearl:D Infernape!!!

No man Turtles and Penguins are the best ;D. But i would say chimchar for a starter if you want a little challenge at the start.[QUOTE="King-gamer"]Chimchar. because fire is the best. Piplup second. Turtwig is grass and grass is the weakest type.giga_yetinot true... yeah i think piplup first chimcar second and turtwig last because i dont like grass pokemon that much,
[QUOTE="dsownge"]
Chimchar is stronger than the two no doubt but piplup wins the cuteness factor and tortera for less usage.
Chimchar is overused.
Jaysonguy
None of the starters are stronger then any of the others
Smogon
I believe that when we talk about which starter is better, their evolution is also counted.
If you look at their stats, clearly Infernape is better and Torterra is not even in the OU category. Infernape with Close Combat can beat Empoleon easily. Infernape will definetly take Torterra down.
I am not making things up and you can try them yourself.
They are all the same, they were all designed to counter their weakness yet still retain the water, grass, fire triangle.siLVURcrossActually, Piplup will never learn moves (That match its type in the end) that can beat turtwig (in the end) whereas, Chimchar and turtwig eventually learn moves that match their types that allow them to take either other (and piplup) on. With that said, go with the fire types, as they're the best. I've always done so and I always will.
Torterra is more set to be a tank, as it learns a widespread of defensive and recovery moves.
(sunny day + morning sun + solar beam + earthquake = PWN)
His main problem is the fact that he can get destroyed by ICE.
Empoleon lacks good natural offensive moves, but has some good resistances, not exactly a tank, but almost.
InfeRnAPE is mainy overused because he is fast and hit hard, but can be taken down rather easily.
Thats why Torterra is underrated, people doesn`t use tank-like pokemons very often.
a lot of people say piplup is really cute, i mean a lot lol
Because it is, it's the cutest thing ever. Mudkipz is cuter ..... No, but seriously, i never got that trend about mudkip.... Yah , you're rite , mudkipz is the cuter than piplup!I have tried both Chimchar & Piplup and I have to say that they are NOT the same. Chimchar has a very strong attack and it's very fast but its defence is really low. You have to one hit KO your oppoment to be safe. Usually, Chimchar faints with one hit, if the oppoment manage to hit. Piplup ις more balanced. It can learn ice and flying type moves, and, as Empoleon, with water/steel type combination, 11 type moves are NOT very effective against him, poison is uneffective, and sandstorm, as well. I recommend it.
(Sorry, if my english isn't very good. It's not my first language...:P)
I always choose Fire Pokemon because it makes the game harder IMO. When I choose Grass or Water in most of the games the first two gyms is always something Fire is Weak against or something it is hard to beat with fire moves. But those gyms are easy to beat with Grass and Water moves.
Well,
My Empoleon is really great because hes Water/Steel type which makes him less vulnerable to electric than other Water types
