I have a flight in a few weeks. I was wondering if Bringing a Nintendo DS to use during the flight was allowed or not. I was just wondering if Anybody knew. It's US Airways. I checked the website and it didn't have any information on it.

yeah, you just can't play it during take off and landing. Once you have reached your altitude however, you can play.

So they have no problems with things with wifi? I don't have anything wi-fi related, so I couldn't play anyway, but I did/do think they might have a problem with wi-fi objects and such.

You shouldn't have a problem. In fact the last I went to the airport I saw vending machines with psps and DS's in them. I was like "wtf thats not going over well"

you can't play during take off or landing, i think it does something to the navigation system..that's just what somebody told me though and he was probably guessing.

I think it also affects communications. I'm not sure about it, though.

They tell you to turn off all electronic devices when taking off and landing. Been that way for years.

The whole issue that a DS could interfere with an airplane's systems, they don't but the FAA is playing it safe. As to why you can't turn on any electronics during takeoff and landing it probably has something to do with the fact that those are the worst time to have system problems. You can't use WiFi on a plane at any time.

Best thing to do is contact the Airline to see if you are allowed.

Yeah, you can. But when they say to not use electronics once they start and come down, wouldn't use it.

A modern plane meaning built in the last five years wouldn't be effected by any commericaly sold devices. Most airline planes are two decades old however. There is a new class of planes that is built as a wifi hotspot so people can make calls without having to pay a ridiclous fee if they have the proper phone.

In the nonshielded old planes a cell phone or more likely a bunch of them can cause the instrument panel to go haywire. Modern instrument panels which use lcd displays and are shielded aren't affected as much if at all. It's the old analog instruments that can go haywire due to electronic interferance.

It's still old habitto the airlines and it's still a small although will becoming rarer risk as the old planes are retired so they figure better be safe then sorry upon takeoff and landing. You wouldn't want the altimeter to be giving false readings when landing you could plow into the airstrip.

I've played my DS on airplanes before. I think however that you are not supposed to use anything with Wifi or wireless. So just don't do anything that uses wireless.

Don't you watch the news. Atleast one plane crashes everyday because someone thought it was ok to play their DS. Oh thats right, nintendo and the liberal media do everything in their power so you don't hear about it.

I always play my PSP on the planes and have no trouble. If the Wi-fi is iff then you're fine. As for the DS's I've heard people play them on flights so I should be ok. Just as long as you don't decide to play online or others on that flight.

I used mine a few weeks ago on a 5 hour flight. I've heard you can't use wifi, but my brother and I used pictochat 6 rows away from eachother...so, pictochat works.
