I was wondering if I left my ds plugged in most of the time, would it extend my overall battery life. I am concerned with the projected 500 charges lasting less than 2 years. I am NOT talking about playing while charging. What I means is that while I am at home I see no reason why I can't keep it plugged in and only use the battery when I am away from home. Has anyone done this for a couple of years to see if it works to extend the overall battery life?

The battery doesn't just die after 500 charges. The battery life slowly diminishes no matter what you do. In a few years you may have to spend $20 to get a new battery if you want a battery that will last as long as possible. In a couple years you will begin to notice a drop in battery life.

Are you talking about keeping the battery out of the ds and using the ds without it? I don't think it would extend the battery life no, it would just extend the time you don't have to replace the battery because you're not using it

You'll actually do more harm leaving it plugged in all the time. Just like with laptops, if you plug it in when the battery is full, the overall lifespan of the battery will degrade, though over time. That's exactly what i've done with my current laptop, which is just over 2 years old, and if it's ever unplugged the battery life is a mear 10 minutes. It used to be 2 and a half hours, but its matters not as the thing never leaves my room anyway.

I wouldn't worry too much about your DS though. I still have the original fat DS, a Japanese one, which I play often, and it's battery life is still around 5-6 hours. So it's only lost a few hours in 4 years, and I can still charge it over night or whilst im playing if need be.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention. It wont harm the battery if you play it whilst it's charging.
