The problem with a 3D pokemon game is that it will never play like a normal pokemon game. I think definitely worth a shot but it would have to be done very well to capture that same pokemon experience.

An officially made 3D pokemon MMO would be great but I doubt it will ever happen.

I was talking to a friend today bout this.

I dont think an MMO would be great, but just a full 3D, 8 gym, Elete 4 Pokemon game would be cool.

Maybe change te story and have real time battles or something. There has to be a change.

I'm all for a 3D pokemon game! Actually, I was thinking about this the other day. What if they also dropped the turn-based fighting for action based, with the camera centered behind your monster. Then you could have your 4 attack moves mapped to buttons on the controller, and you could fight in real time. This would be a great next step forward for the series, because they haven't changed the formula AT ALL in 10 years.

i think they should make a pokemon first person shooter. hear me out! you play as Ash or someone and your plane crashes in a desolate island...and all the pokemon want you dead. you go around this tropical island and try to find your way out. then, when you go back home...the pokemon have taken over! now you have to save your home land (cuz it take place in kanto or johto and whatnot). i can imagine it. a blodthirsty pikachu going after you while you shoot at him with a desert eagle. the pokedex could be used to radar or find out weakspots (ala metroid prime's scan visor). i smell win! (oh, and Morgan Freeman has to narrated it). what do you guys think? :D

I haven't played since the Gold/Silver days and I would come back to the series if they made an awesome MMO. They'd have to do it right though. They should have a tournament every year that players have to collect eight badges in order to participate in. Players should have a choice of what region they want to play in (Kanto, Johto, etc.) and could compete in one of these tournaments each year and then move on to another the following year, or continue to play in the same one, but movement between the regions would never be restricted so players can train wherever they like. The regions should also be much larger, with more than eight gyms, so players can pick and choose which badges they want to collect. These are just a few ideas off the top of my head, but if done right a Pokemon MMO would be amazing.

ohh my god it would be amazziing no joke. SIck wicked amazing. So...so perfect. And please don't get rid of turn based. Tried and tested. Turn-based is fine and i like it. Maybe make it look cooler though with HD pokemon so you can see the hairs on the growlithe's back stand on end.

Even if they just did something like ff7 standard i would cry with happiness. And also MMO would be amazing. But there would have to be limitless levels. Actually it would have to be a lot harder to level in general.

It would be awesome! But I don't think Nintendo will make it. If they release a 3D Pokémon RPG the sales from the handheld titles will decrease a lot, I know Pokemon fans will buy both games but many people won't, I think that's the reason why Nintendo didn't make it yet, they are probably afraid that something like that happens.

A 3D pokemon game could have been made years ago on the xbox and ps2 but not on the GC with 250 or more of them. Now finaly the Wii has disks the size of normal DVDs it can do it with the 4GB of space. An Example of a pokemon like game made on the ps2.

Personally I would like the game to be cel shaded like in LoZ Windwaker. The game would look a lot smoother and have more style. It would be so cool if Nintendo worked with Atlus to create the rpg. That would give Atlus more name recognition and possibly more rpg support such as the Shin Megami Tensei series.

I think an MMO would be the way to go with a true 3D Pokemon game. Because the dungeon crawler appeal just wasn't in Colosseum and Gale of Darkness. They felt like Pokemon themed games more than true Pokemon games.

i would LOVE a pokemon 3D game, and i really like the idea of the real time combat. Ur pokemons out, it has its 4, or however many moves u want as hotkeys that you press, or buttons on a controller, whatever u play on. And each has its own PP, so you cant only use the one move, and its own cooldown, so u cant spam hyperbeams. Each pokemon has their own stats, like an RPG and stuffs. It would be awesome. I'd love it. An MMO would be sick too. I'd definitely buy and play it.

Would be cool, but will never happen. The proper RPG Pokemon games will always be on handhelds, seeing as they're easier to make, more popular and sell like crazy. All the Wii and future Nintendo consoles will have are spin-offs like Colliseum, Gale of Darkness and Battle Revolution.

Although, Pokemon Stadium 3, a game I've been waiting to be announced for many years now.

Doesen't mean they can't do it though, They should just give it one shot and see how it works if it doesen't they should have a backup plan to bring them back up.

Hey you pikachu was 3-D and I loved it now Im still playing it at the age of 16!!

But that was probably the only good 3-D game made and It was in the past too. I wonder If they can make a virtual console for that. I'd love it.

The best pokemon game would be with the main character as Travis Touchdown. Not those sissy pokemon guys that paint their faces and wear capes. pokemon is turning into a toddler toy. back in red green and blue days it was considered a mature title (as in for any age and well developed). crystal was the last worthy title I ever saw.

Yeah, I started playing Pokemon right when it came out, I was 8 when the pokemon craze started used to watch everyday played the games, got all 151 on my blue version the real way, got them to 100 the REAL WAY NO RARE CANDY CHEAT! And like someone said earlier I always wanted a 3D pokemon game. I remember when i was probably 9, pokemon collisilum's name some how surfaced and me and all my friends though it was going to be a 3D game, then it diddn't come out for almost 4 years after that. But when stadium came out I thought that was going to be the 3D game and it was just the gay little battle game. I'm 18 now and obviously don't play pokemon like I used to, When im really bored I'll pick it up and play it, or if I see a episode on I might change the channel and watch but after Silver, Pokemon was never the same. I honestly would buy a 3D game if it came out, I think it would bring back alot of fans my age who always wanted the game to come out but it never did. And the gameboy games just feel to childish for us. It would have to be really really good though. This was my idea.

You have the choice to play as Ash, Gary, or create your own Pokemon. If you choose Ash you start off with Pikachu, (and he refuses to go in a pokeball), Evemtually you meet up with Brock and Misty and they follow you around. Gary starts off with Eevee, and as you go along just like in the show you get chances to get the three starters from random ways (maybe even just like the show) And if you create your own you can get one of the three starters or Pikachu or Eevee, with the same chances to get the other starters. And then the game will kind of go on like the show as in sequence of events. Battling would have to be complety redone, and have it like Super smash Bros almost were you controll the Pokemon. They would have to have more then 4 moves...they can use any move the know its just differnt combinations of buttons. And you can use surroundings as advantages and moves to do different things. like bulbasaur vine whipping the ground seding him flying in the air. Team rocket also in the game (the real ones Jesse and James and Meowth) and would try to steal your Pokemon. Then once you get the bages and and do the Pokemon leauge, you go to like a movie mode were you go to the Mewtwo island and have your chance to get Mewtwo and other legendaries from the first 150. This trend continues as you go to the Orange islands after, Johto, and whatever the next two lands are I dont even know, with scataerd movies in between to try and get legindaries. Other things I forgot, make it alot harder to level up, and give more advantages to not evolving your pokemon at there regular levels. Because as far as I know Ash's Bulbasaur still hasnt evolved after what 10 years? That things gotta be level 80 something and still not even a Ivysaur it it kicks ass.

So creators of Pokemon who ever you are listen to your fans. MAKE A NEXT GEN POKEMON GAME IN 3D!!!! RPG STYLE. We understand you target like 11 and under and thats great they will still buy the game boy games because they want pokemon on the go. But us next gen fans who sit here on are Wii's and xbox 360's half us dont have a DS anymore so we dont buy the games. The Wii has really good games, but not the console moving games like Xbox(Halo, gears) PS3 (Metal gear), There's not gunna be another Zelda or mario for the next 5-6 years you need something to fill in, why not Pokemon?

I don't think they should make it into an MMO. If they did, nobody could catch the legendary pokemon because only one exists of each, and if they were able to catch them there would be thousands of Arceus, Groudon, Mewtwo and the like battling it out every day. Actually the main reason why it wouldn't work as an MMO is that I can't see a fully online game (like an MMO) operating on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Personally, I prefer turn-based battles, and they would work online better as well. If it was an action rpg, it would have to be a darn good one.

You know, on second thought I think they could make a damn good Pokemon MMORPG - one set in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon universe. Instead of being a trainer setting out to train pokemon, you would be a wild pokemon or else someone that 'turned into' a pokemon, and you would decide upon the species and gender of the pokemon you play as, and your homeland would be set as whatever location your pokemon normally lives in in the wild. So like if you're a pikachu, beedrill or shroomish then you would live in a forest, if you're a sandshrew, zubat or nosepass you would live in a cave, and if you're a manmade or tame pokemon like mr. mime, porygon and meditite then you would live in a city. And you would have more extensive customization for your character... Like you could switch your moves you learned outside of battle, and possibly change your special ability every several levels to determine a pathway for the type of special ability you want to end up with.

EX: I am a Geodude and I start the game with an ability that gives me 5% extra defense. As I gain experience points, I have the option to opt for a different ability, maybe this time one of two - 10% extra defense or protection against 1-hit KOs. If I chose the 1-hit KO ability this would be quite affective and I may not be given the option to advance or change my ability for a while yet, whereas the 10% ability offers only a slightly better advantage in battles and I may be given a new ability option sooner rather than later.

To enhance the gameplay (since you only control one pokemon), you could have it set so that everyone answers questions to determine their pokemon type at the beginning of game (gender would not be affected, only if its a genderless pokemon. Males couldn't become Kangaskahn, etc.) and 'trade' their pokemon to another player and become that type of pokemon, while retaining some 'egg' data for learning techniques that pokemon otherwise wouldn't...Or else like people could breed their pokemon, and the old pokemon run away and you and the other person are left with twin pokemon that is different than the parent pokemon....or something.

I dunno...whats everyone think?

Anyways, I think a fully 3d Pokemon game like the handheld ones is all we really need.

As long as it's better then Gale of Darkness. They barely even let you catch wild Pokemon. It sucked IMO.

It's funny, me and my friends started talking recently about programming a 3D Pokémon MMORPG (PC, not Wii... sry guys...). They aren't very excited with the idea, at least they don't feel like they're capable of making it. I've been thinking about all the conflicts there would be (as the above mentioned "rare Pokémon thing"). I even considered contacting Game Freak about it... But it's a wild idea...

If I ever make it it will probably not satisfy anyone of us (even me), fans. It may sound stupid, but, because Pokémon appeared early in my childhood, I always dreamed of being a Pokémon trainer.... And that's what the game would be about. Not about catching them all (at least the main goal). Because that would be impossible. The real game would be about being the best trainer. Would be about being a Gym Leader, for example... Yeah, catching them all has been "the" goal of all Pokémon games. But, to keep the history going... There would be only one rare Pokémon of each kind. That's a sacred rule to me.

I think one possible solution would be to catch it and then let it go... So it would be on your Pokédex... But not on your possession, so others could catch it... Don't know... I even thought of the same thing that some of you did: that, in battle, you would control your Pokémon directly, not as a trainer. But I also thought about a detail, a detail that some of you may not care, but I do, because I think it adds realism to the game. The fact that your Pokémon may not obey (at least for two reasons: lack of experience [trainer's] or because it has been traded).

Let's dream a little bit. Let's discuss some details of the game as if it were to be released... Some issues that could come up, etc.

PS: Sorry for my poor English.

lol who bumped this massively old topic with a misleading title? I don't really even like Pokemon, haven't played one since Red and Blue but I would look into a console version simply because I like games that let me explore worlds like the one's you find in Pokemon games, however it wont happen because its Nintendo's handheld juggernaut. And to the above poster if you contact Game Freak they will just sue you lol. I think it would be fair to let a person catch a legendary pokemon as there is no point in having it in the game if you can only see it. The way you can make it fair is to make it sort of a contest to catch it, like make it available to only the most elite players, i.e. people who win like in game tournaments and such and then you let them take a single shot at catching it, if they blow it then there's goes thier chance unless they win something again. And if they catch it, the criteria is once you lose it leaves you and gives someone else a chance to claim it, no one would be able to hold it forever and it would serve sort of as a badge of honor for the best players instead of something anyone and everyone can get. But at the same time its fair, because its all dependent upon your skill.

I have always wanted to play a massive Pokemon game with all 4 regions. I would really like an MMO with each region being a different server or something. I can't really say there has to be a change because I love Pokemon the way it is now.

ANIME!!! its the way 4ward!! well ish! ya get what i meen? ++bring back exp:All! it was just so much betta 4 training!

My vision for a 3D pokemon Game: It should be portable, even if they have to rebuild an entire new portable game system, i would honestly pay up to 3-400 dollars for what i am about to propose:But the new gaming system should be equivalent to the power of a PSP or slightly higher. Customizable pokemon trainer: even during the game you can purchase gear or find gear around and customise your trainer. Also the pokemon should have different looks ( in the same species) e.g not all pikachus look the same, therefore have slightly different looking pokemon. Also pokemon can be customisable as in you should be able to place ribbons, collars etc. Pokemon should be able to be released to follow you around. The 3D game should include ALL known regions of the pokemon world and include a few more, and the pokemon gamers can continue to sell games by placing them on the net as downloads that you purchase...e.g purchase new regions with new pokemon and gyms, new areas to explore etc. You should be able to choose what you do int he world of pokemon, If i want to join Team Rocket, i should be able to play and it should also have its own story arc. There should be side quests. The pokemon Anime follows a storyline but they also have many sidequests. You can help a village put out a forest fire with water pokemon, or assist in drilling with ground pokemon or attend festivals and competitions at different places, run into people who need your help with things ( similar to the elder scrolls sort of play) , also pokemon with "fly", you can actually fly with, and while in the air run into airborne pokemon for battles as well. By completing quests you gain money that you use for entry to some competitions, supplies etc. Pokemon experience is not only gained by battle, there should be different types of experience. E.g Battle experience - two categories : attack experience and defence experience, speed experience (use of speed attacks), attack experience further split into 8 attacks that your pokemon can do. If you use one attack more than another your pokemon will naturally be stronger in that attack. During battles, pokemon should be controlled by the player, use combos to unleash strong attacks and basic buttons for basic attacks ( yes...have the pokemon actually touch each other in the fights). Also include option to skip battle and have it simulated for you. Also young pokemon should grow differently depending on how you raise it. E.g have higher stats, slightly larger or smaller, etc. Have destructible environments..e.g if you decide to join team rocket and burn the forest with a charizard. to lure all pokemon out..it should catch on fire and you should see pokemon fleeing. Interactive AI....AI responds to your actions...e.g if you are team rocket..or other teams....trainers will try and stop you, officer jenny always after you etc. If you a trainer people will always battle you, Job classes: like i said before about joining team rocket, you should be able to choose job class : E.g Variety Trainer, Specialised Trainer, Breeder, Thief, Policeman, each job class you should be able to proceed to have better jobs..e.g Variety trainer battlesto become Pokemon master..obvious, specialised trainers can become Gym leaders, Elite Four , Breeders can unlock Research status and go on quests similar to Pokemon Snap, Thief works their way up the ranks to become Rocket members, Rocket officers, Elite Rockets, Boss ( after battling the big boss)..., Policeman start as basic security, then policeman, then officer etc and unlock more side quests. Rangers path chosen after starting and involves side quests and journeys similar to Pokemon Rangers game. You choose a class at the start and you follow that arc until you choose to change. Example : Variety Trainer starts at a town, Specialised Trainer get their first pokemon from a gym, Breeders start at research centres, Thief , policemen and ranger are only available after starting one of the others. All Pokemon should be available to find since there will not be versions. You should be able to talk to and interact with people around you...even offer them to trade for their pokemon. Find out information for side quests etc. There should be different things you can do in the game with your job class...e.g researchers can make different enhancers out of berries or other ingrediants to enhance pokemon strength etc, create new pokeballs. , thiefs can not only steal pokemon, but also other things such as great new weapons for catcing pokemon, rangers can make medicines from berries and be able to attract wild pokemon, variety trainers only have the basics they had in any other pokemon game, specialised trainers can enhance their trainers or other trainers pokemon by making them learn specialised moves. Teams: Trainers can pick up members to join their team along the way in the game regardless of job. E.g Rockets recruit trainers, trainers make friends etc. You can also control what pokemon your team members carry as well as lend them pokemon that belong to you to strengthen them up. Also good for team battles. Well there is my vision, hopefully someone from Nintendo reads this or gets a hold of it, thinks its a great idea then makes it happen.

So i apologise in advance for resurrecting a year old thread (and on my first ever post, no less) but i fell like i must say something: A Single Player, 3D Pokemon game really isnt that hard to get to grips with - the current suggestions make mountains out of molehills, if you excuse the idiom. I mean the last guys post, you want all that on a new handheld? I have never played it myself but i have watched others play it, but Final Fantasy could basically be modified to be a Pokemon game - i have only seen it on PS1 but i know there are random encounters just like handheld Pokemon games, so why the hell complicate things? FF + Pokemon Stadium = Awesome. However, that whole game may seem very, very outdated. I have had some orgasmic visions of a current gen 3D Pokemon game, and last night i had a dream set in Pokemon that basically defined my vision (and inspired me to write this). The sole issue would be encoutering and capturing the creatures. Random encounters are very tiresome after a while but Pokemon NPCs would be incredibly difficult to implement. Some ideas though: Take inspiration from a game like Monster Hunter, with big creatures walking around the world waiting for you to encounter them - Replace the mammoths or whatever with Pokemon. However, take the staggering number of Pokemon nowadays and that would not work ... at all. Imagine trying to fit 8 different species within the same small area all as Moving NPCs and it would not work. You could make the maps much, much bigger but that brings problems of its own. Also, the rarity of Pokemon would decrease - instead of wondering around for random encounters for ages you could just say "Oh look, there it is". It could be possible to have the creatures randomly spawn when the camera is not looking at them, and some spawn more than others. When you would like to engage a Pokemon in battle there would be a radius around the Pokemon (visibly marked) that if you enter it, or it forces you to enter it while attacking you, a turn based battle would start. I think the idea of the player controlling the Pokemon would be so **** amazing, but would put less emphasis on Levels, Training and Stats and more on skill, like any third person action game. I mean, say if you have a very evasive PKMN vs a level 3 ratata with low evasiveness, in the context of the game the ratata would be moving in bullet time while your Charmander is running at the speed of light around them. However, now i think about it, has anyone ever played the brilliant GC game Tales of Symphonia (or any others in the series) ? It uses its own "Linear Motion Battle System" that would be brilliant while controlling a PKMNs with varying stats. In fact, that very thought has given me a boner. When you think you can do it, open the menu and chuck a Pokeball. One off PKMNs are no problem of course - in my dream i was at the Lake of Rage from Silver/Gold and in the middle there is the shiny Red Gyrados - well in the game, it could be like Monster Hunter, a giant beast swimming in and out of the water or randomly attacking when you surf to a specific point in the lake (for sake of story/context that its a legend). Battling trainers would be the same as usual, they'll see you and assault you and you could trade and battle online instead of the days of link cables which nobody owned. So there it is, my ideas for a full fledged 3D current gen PKMN games. If you like my thoughts let me know, or contribute to the idea. PS. My biggest concern is the fact as anything of this scale would have to be done on consoles, it will destroy what makes Pokemon so fun and accessible - the ability pick up and play your adventure wherever you are. I played Fallout 3 for 85 + hours last year and it took me just under two months and felt like forever (im very sad like that). However, within a space of 2 weeks i have played 45 hours of Leaf Green! The reason? I could just sit there watching TV or or on the train, raking in the hours without much concern for how much time i was spending on a computer game (unlike with Fallout 3 where i questioned my own sanity) and thats what i love about Pokemon. Thank you.

Don't Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness count as 3D pokemon RPG style games? And furthermore, isn't there one on the Wii aswell? I think it's called Pokemon Battle Revolution or something. So there's already the game out there that suits your needs.

No, because they did not play like a classic Pokemon game at all! If they did, everyone would be playing them. I only played Colosseum, and that was, like you said, a 3D Pokemon STYLE game. And it was ****

I was thinking that it should be called Pokemon Rainbow (assuming it is made). It would have all 4 reigons, making a total of 32 badges to collect. You would only have to collect 8 to get to the Elite 4. It would be 3D and MMO (using friend codes, you can track if your friends are on and where they are if they are online). It would have all 400+ Pokemon, unless new ones were added.

dude don't put stuff like "pokemon 3d wii game!" as a title if all you're talking about is if they should make it. You're making it sound like they are and you found pictures or gameplay or something, it's really misleading and annoying >_>

You have a point. They should've made it "pokemon 3d wii game ideas" or somethin' like that.

I would definitely play a Pokemon MMO. I don't know how many times I've asked for one. They could improve a little on the Diamond/Pearl graphics engine, and I'd be fine with the visuals. I think the top down view is awesome for Pokemon. Maybe have a dual battle system where you and a friend can team up and take on two other npcs/players. I have tons of ideas for one, but I'm sure everyone else probably has similar thoughts. I have a gut feeling they might actually do something like this, I really do. Every Pokemon fan knows they'd love something like this, and I don't see why it couldn't happen.
