My son is 6 an has discovered the world of Pokemon. He reads fairly well, much better than average for a kid his age. He has not played any other Pokemon games. Can anyone recommend a good one for him for the DS?

Not questioning your judgement or anything but I doubt a six year old would be able to get into a RPG. There is alot of reading and you say he reads above average, but how interesting would it be to him? But still if you want to get him a Pokemon game I would go for Pokemon Rangers as it seems to be more 'action' oriented then most Pokemon games.

If your child dont mind waiting, get him pokemon platinum, it will come in march.

Also the firered and leafgreen for the gameboy advance are very good, those are the remake of the classics red and green, both are very good.

I disagree, I was playing the first generation of Pokemon games when I was around that age...

Actually, there was never a Pokemon green (besides for leaf green of course) it was pokemon Red & Blue, the first pokemon games ever

Actually there was a Green. Originally in Japan, the games released were Pokemon Red and Green. While in America they enhanced it slightly and called it Red and Blue. Hence why the remakes are called FireRed and LeafGreen.

Well for the main series there's Pokemon Diamond, Pearl or if you wait Platinum (it has some more features). Also for spin-offs there's Pokemon Ranger which is a very good spin-off series. There are now 2 Pokemon Ranger games out.

My 7yearold finds the pokemon ranger games easier to follow (he has the reading age of an 11yearold) game wise cause there alittle more structured. But that didn't stop him playing pokemon diamond. He does need help every now and then thou. Just to point him in the right direction. But myself and his brother play so that helps.

im not sure how good his reading is, but it could be difficult for him. my little brother started with pokemon gold at that age (it was the current gen) but i doubt he would have made it through if i hadnt already beaten silver. if he loves pokemon, he'll love the game like my bother did, but it may be challenging for him as there's alot of reading to do.

I was 7 when i first got pokemon, and i was able to get through the game on my own. If one of my parents was game savy, it would have been even easier, because they could check gamefaqs or something. Anyway, I would recommend diamond or pearl. I would also suggest tracking down a copy of fire red or leaf green. They are remakes of the originals, and would be a great starting place.

As long as he can read well, I don't see why not, just be around your kid just incase he can't make out something.

I think your best bet is Gold, Silver or Crystal.

I think diamond is the most agreeable choice, i played blue when i was a little bit younger than him and completed it, so since diamond is just an updted colour version (basicallly as its very smilar) you should get him that.

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl or you can wait for Pokemon Platinum to come out and get it for him.

The vocab in Pokemon isnt really all that difficult. I mean I pretty much learned a good amount of my vocabulary from the game. Unless we are talking about implementing strategies then that would be a different story. Like the other guys said, fire red and Leafgreen would be ideal for any Pokemon rookie and be sure to follow up Sapphire and Ruby, Emerald too!!

Get Pokemon Platinum, it just plain has more features than diamond and pearl, the two other DS Pokemon games.

I remember my whole class playing red and blue at around that age (5-6), and we all understood the story and what to do pretty well ( heck, I can still run someone through most of R/B/Y without any guide just through memory and by checking their screen (and what they have)) so 6 actually is a fine age to play Pokemon, as long as they have what I consider average reading skills (or better, of course).

I personally would have told you to start with R/B/Y, but you wanted a DS game, and those originals are pretty old for a game now.
