My young son will get a DSi for Christmas, but at the moment he is hooked on Pokemon Silver on an old Gameboy Color (13/16 badges). Is there enough of a difference to make it worth getting him Heart Gold? Otherwise we will wait for Black/White next year.

We already have a copy of Diamond and Pearl.

lol pirating consoles game sis illegal in fact if your even recommending it your getting banhammered. reported!

anyway TC before this thread gets locked by a generic blast of banhammer (wont affect you but it will affect him, but this thread will lock all the same)

on top of the above you can catch some of the sapphire/ruby/emerald pokemon as well a spokemon from diamond and pearl during certain points in the game during certain times of day in a specfici route.

you can port ruby/sapphire/emerald pokemon to HG SS if you have an older ds with both the gba cartridge slot and ds cartridge slots

you can also trade over the internet if you have a dsi or dsi-xl for example i have a 24 bulbasaur i got traded the other day for a noctowl.. with a dude in asia.

and folks you trade n battlewith are tracked.. you can see where they are and what theyve been up to.

and the pokewalker is a neat little step counter you get from training pokemon when your not playing the game clip it to a pocket or belt or w/e and off you go leveling pokemon as well as catching rare pokemon and obtaining phat lewts :P

id say its hg ss with alot mroe bells and whistles and the online play is definetely worth getting.

no need for a link cbale = epic win gaming :D

It could be worth it if you have wi-fi.

I think I'd buy it, they did add some things to the game.

Hi,

Get both games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyCeU7Fq63M&NR=1

he already loves the GBC, play it on the DS will be a maximum experience. Imagine those upgraded graphics. Mamma mía the pokemon center is jaw dropping.

Get PokemonHeart and take the experience beyond new and better heights.

Personally, as someone who owned Pokemon Silver in 2000 and bought Pokemon HeartGold at launch this year, I found that I enjoyed the original GBC games more.

There have been changes made to the classification of move types since Pokemon Diamond & Pearl version which, personally, I just don't care for. But it is still Pokemon and it is pretty much the same as it was in the older games. The game does benefit from some newer features that were added in Ruby/Sapphire and Diamond/Pearl anyway, such as special abilities, weather effects (which aren't used as much), doubles battles and online trading/battles.

I would kind of have to agree with everyone else's opinions that you should wait and get Pokemon Black or White, however. They are brand new games in the series, and will be released sometime in March next year. They feature a whole new mess of monsters, but none of the previous 500-some pokemon are available in the game until after you beat the main story. Then you can catch some in-game, and trade other players for any favorites from the previous generations.

If your son REALLY wants some of the rarer pokemon like legendaries that can be obtained in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum or HeartGold/SoulSilver, then okay, you might just want to get him one of those games with those specific Pokemon in them, as they may be difficult to receive from other players. But honestly, I think he will be pretty happy with the new Pokemon - you're bound to find at least one monster you like among the new 150-some Pokemon!

If you can find it for a good deal go for it but I wouldn't pay full retail if the little guy is already playing it on GBA. The differences are there, but this is a port after all. I would strongly suggest just waiting for the new ones to come out, but it's up to you.

Thanks everyone. I shall take your advice and wait for Black/White.

Maybe I will get him one of the Mystery Dungeon games instead, as a way to introduce him to something new. Explorers of the Sky gets good reviews.
